I cannot articulate how delicious the food was–by God. The food here feels like the forbidden fruit of knowledge–I cannot unknow that this place exists now and will continue to think of its food when I am not near. Perhaps a bit dramatic on my part but the food is no laughing matter.
Once we left to parking lot and were preparing to drive away we saw the sign and said “yup, makes sense”.
I may need to relocate to Madison.
We really want to like this place which is why we tried it again when we had the chance for a sample. We are wondering if the restaurant is perhaps better?
Service was great from the moment we walked in the door. Staff were very friendly and informative about their most popular food items.
The ribs and brisket were so moist and had amazing flavor. The baked beans were made with brisket and apples and were delicious! The Mac and cheese? Phenomenal!
Only thing I’m bummed about is I’m not local so can’t make this a frequent stop. Will definitely go back anytime I’m in Madison.
We got 2 meat plates with 2 sides each; one brisket and one ribs.
My wife requested her dinner roll be up- charged to a jalapeno corn bread yet she received neither.
Brisket and Ribs were tender and juicy but unfortunately, both were also embarrassingly under seasoned. The brisket had no crust to speak of! Without a crust, it’s pretty much just a piece of beef isn’t it? Our sides were just ok as collard greens are NOT supposed to taste cloyingly sweet and corn bread should not feel refrigerator cold by the time it hits my plate. Mac and cheese was good.
A staff member told us the cook studied in Texas for two years but as Texans, we feel he should have made it four.
The food? Outstanding. Every bite tasted like it came straight out of a pitmaster’s passion project. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with just the right amount of smoky bark. The ribs slid off the bone without falling apart, perfectly seasoned and full of deep, smoky flavor. And the pulled pork? Juicy, Flavorful and absolutely addictive!
The sides were just as impressive — creamy mac and cheese, tangy slaw, and baked beans that tasted like they’d been simmering all day. Even the cornbread was perfection: warm, slightly sweet, and fluffy.
Service was friendly, quick, and genuinely welcoming. You can feel how proud the team is of what they serve, and it shows in every detail.
