We were seated quickly, greeted by the kindest (and very respectful) younger staff, and immediately felt welcome. No mama or papa in sight… but HOLY WOW—this food absolutely tasted like there was an Asian mama throwing down in the kitchen.
We started with drinks: solid Long Islands (dangerously good) and an Asian Mojito that was refreshing, flavorful, and very reasonably priced. Loved them both.
Next up: clam chowder. We shared a bowl and I’m not exaggerating when I say this may be the most flavorful clam chowder we’ve ever had. 10/10, no notes.
Then came the entrées—and listen… this place had me briefly considering buying a surf shack in Pacific City just so I could live closer to these meatballs and calamari. Whoooo. The heat was just enough to make us sweat a little in the best way (we love spicy food), and the sauces? Unreal. Deep, bold, layered flavors.
My compliments to the mama in the back—I refuse to believe she wasn’t involved—because this food was made with serious love. And American papa, wherever you are, your calamari has my gratitude.
We’re already planning to go back during our remaining days here. The cookies looked amazing, and we overheard that the coconut shrimp are a must. Round two feels inevitable.
Run, don’t walk… or actually, Beach Walk. They seriously will wok your world ❤️
Will be back
The food options ?! SO COOL, dishes that taste phenomenal
Maybe I’m writing too much, but honestly, this place is A+
The staff – super friendly and attentive. It was relatively busy at lunch time and they were super friendly and efficient.
The atmosphere – you can’t go wrong being blocks from the ocean. They play great music on the patio and it was very relaxing to sit and watch the cars go by taking in the sea air
The food – I had the fish tacos and banh mi. Yes, I ordered 2 entrees for myself, which both included sides, because I couldn’t decide and I was really hungry after hiking all morning.
The fish tacos were cooked perfectly. Nice crunch on the outside, fish was still tender and juicy. The salsa was really flavorful. The side cucumber salad was so basic but so delicious.
The tacos were great, but the star of the show was the bbq pork banh mi. The pork was so tender. The jalapenos were sliced thin to provide great flavor and a little heat without overpowering… The spread was amazing and flavorful and the fresh cucumber balanced it all out so nicely. I think it’s the best banh mi I’ve had since I was in Vietnam.
Definitely will not forget about this place. Would drive here just to get the banh mi! But I want to try other items as well.
The Thai tea came in a nice large cup which was amazing! Butttt it was SUPER bland and kind of tasted like burnt Thai tea that had been watered down. Definitely not authentic.
The pad Thai was actually not good, we understood it was not going to be authentic but the noodles had barely any sauce so they were quite dry and had the most strange taste. We are avid Thai food eaters and this was not good. We thought to pay extra for a side of peanut sauce to help with the dryness and flavor. That peanut sauce was terrible and tasted nothing like peanut sauce. It’s like it was missing the peanuts.
Lastly the Calamari and yakisoba bowl. The calamari was TOP TEIR! So yummy. The yakisoba was yucky and super dry. I knew it was gonna be spicy but the sauce was something similar to a spicy sweet Asian chili sauce that had been watered down.
We have considered coming back and trying other food that others made great reviews about. We just can’t justify spending $60+ including tip with such poorly made food.
I recommend going through the dishes and really working on changing the recipes and working on the balance of flavors. This place has great portion sizes and potential!
Overall 11/10 for food. Definitely recommend for vegans as they have multiple options.
Mai Tai was refreshing and strong
