What can we say the atmosphere, service is always awesome, their beef ribs, mac & cheese are a absolutely delicious, & tasty very beefy & thick. Brisket & tri tip are also very delicious. BBQ brisket salad is also delicious, portions are really good here We will deffinetly be returning.

They also have live bands fri-sat hours may vary.

Okay, I am sorry.

My previous review had glowing praise for this little BBQ joint in downtown Monrovia. After all, the prices were really good and, even though they appeared to be adverse to salt, the food wasn’t that bad.

Well, I am sorry, because time has apparently proved me wrong. For that, I apologize.

Stopped by for late lunch today, and OMG – this place has gone down the toilet. I’m not kidding, I don’t think I’ve ever had a worse BBQ experience in my (far to long of a) life.

Let’s start with the BBQ Beef Short Ribs, which I had again today. I don’t think the photos I took actually do it justice, because it was HORRIBLE.

To start, the price has gone from $17 to $23, which I am okay with, I’m not blind (like so many of the Yelp Elite in this region) to the fact that prices are going up for everyone, and I am perfectly fine with restaurants adjusting their prices when their cost goes up.

*This is not to say I am happy about how everything is getting more expensive, but that’s a gripe for another day.

Okay, so you raised your prices, fine, I can deal with that. But when my ribs arrived and I realized they switched from 3 bone short rib racks to the much cheaper and much worse 4 bone short rib rack, I was pissed. They have half the meat, maybe even less, than their 3 rib cousins.

Listen, 3 bone short ribs (also known as “Plate Short Ribs” or “Dino Ribs”)come from the belly, they are very meaty and have an excellent fat to meat ratio. Their cousin, the 4 bone short rib (also known as “Chuck Short Ribs”) come from the shoulder. They have much less meat, much less fat, but way too much inedible sinew fiber.

The Dino Ribs are for smoking (or Barbeque as we know it) and they are delicious, even if you screw it up. The Chuck Short Ribs, however, are for braising in a liquid for a very long time because they are very tough meat and they really suck as Barbeque.

To change your beef ribs to the cheaper and crappier version AND raise your prices, that is a sin against Barbeque.

Now, to add insult to injury, they also cooked them via a method that I am unable to identify. There is no bark, the meat is a nauseating shade of grey, and they FAILED TO ADD ENOUGH SALT…again. Results, simply the worst piece of beef I have ever eaten.

As if my pain wasn’t enough, the 2 sides that I got (coleslaw and salad – I’m doing keto) were tasteless and awful. Again, not enough salt.

ARE YOU PEOPLE AFRAID OF SALT?

Now, the bartender was delightful, which is why they got two stars and not one. As for the food, if I could give it negative stars, I would.

We stopped by BBQ Blues around 1:00 PM on a Saturday afternoon and had a great experience. It was easy to get a table, and for a group of four adults and two kids we were able to enjoy a full meal for under $100, which felt like excellent value.

We ordered the green spaghetti to start. It had great flavor but was a little too spicy for a member of our party who does not care for spicy food, so if you are sensitive to heat you may want to skip it. We also ordered a few sodas and beers, all of which were reasonably priced.

The family platter was the highlight and came with plenty of food. We left with a good amount of leftovers, mostly ribs. The beef ribs were huge, well seasoned, and cooked really well. The pork ribs were excellent, and the brisket was tender and not dry at all. If you are feeding a full group, adding an extra side or two helps so you are not splitting portions too much.

Our server was friendly and attentive, and it was nice to see her greeting regulars as they came in, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. Overall, this is a solid, family-friendly BBQ spot with generous portions, fair prices, and a great vibe. We would definitely come back, especially to check out the live bands.

Sad, always wanted to try this place out and had an awkward experience.

So, I go to the restaurant, a waiter brings waters and asks what drinks we want. I order a beer and my wife orders a soda, then the waitress comes back, I give her our order, jalapeno poppers, brisket, and tritip but the waitress tells me they ran out of brisket and tritip. I then tell her I really wanted brisket/tri tip and think we’ll just go. She asks me if I want the poppers, I say no and think we’ll just go. She tells me she’ll ring me uo for the beer but I ask her if she can just take it back since I haven’t drank from it. She tells me no and I respond by saying that I’m not paying for the beer. She asks me to leave, I aplologize for the inconvenience and leave.

Really they should have told us from the beginning they ran out of brisket and Tri tip. What’s a barbecue place without the classic meats? At least if she said sure and took back the beer I would have for sure came back to try the bbq but it was just awkward and forced. Basically trapping customers into paying by not telling them up front of running out if the main items. Anyone too weak to stand up for themselves would have paid for the beer and been screwed over. That’s not right. Good food is nothing without customer service and so far I’m not impressed. She wasn’t overly rude or anything but definitely not understanding or accomodating. Maybe it was a one off or something so I’ll leave 3 stars since I didn’t even get to try the food.

New local spot that took over the 38° location. I really wanted to like this place, seems like a cool spot to watch the game and have some BBQ. I came here on a Friday night and they were completely sold out of all their meats except brisket. They were also sold out on over half the beers they were supposed to have. So obviously I got the brisket. It came out very slightly warm, almost cold. It was not tender. There was almost zero smoke ring, and it was not seasoned well. Did not like it at all. I didn’t even finish it and just left it. I also ordered the Texas corn which was just ok. The flavors didn’t really feel well integrated. Also got the Mac & cheese which was good. They had a live band Friday night which is great if you’re here for that. Otherwise it’s extremely loud inside you can’t even talk to the person next to you.

Overall I was underwhelmed here. I didn’t see any smokers outside so they must buy their meats from someone else. I hope they switch suppliers and get their inventory under control. I’ll give them another shot in a few months and hopefully they can improve by then.

DO NOT GO !! Hands down the worst BBQ I have ever had (and I’ve been to hundreds of spots). They brought me something that tasted like and I kid you not shoe leather ! I was shocked ! To tough to chew and completely dried out ! If that wasn’t bad enough , the corn on the cob was $4 for a quarter of a frozen cob ordered from Sysco Foods and soaked in margarin for a few days (gross). This place is a joke ! This place used to be 38 Degrees and had some of the best food and then these clowns took over ‍♂️

BBQ that isn’t very exciting.
I’ve been craving brisket for the past week and decided to try the relatively new BBQ Blues. I ordered the brisket and tri-tip in the Mixed Combo. Immediately, I noticed a lack of smoke rings on the brisket and tri-tip slices. The sides I picked were the Mac & Cheese and the Texas Style Corn. Everything except the corn was almost warm. The corn is supposed to have jalapeño in it, but I didn’t see or really taste it. I really didn’t detect any type of rub on the meats. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

PLEASE DONT GET THE BRISKET!
The onion rings were amazing 11/10, conversely the brisket was the worst brisket I’ve ever had in my life. It was cheap though so I guess you get what you pay for.
