The food is great! 2 piece catfish ,6 shrimp ,fries, and a salad for 19.99.
Honestly this is alot even if your usual portion is big, I sugest the 1 piece catfish with 6 shrimp at $15.99 .
The size of the catfish piece are big and the batter on the fish and shrimp is what makes the food so good.
The chicken fried steak dinner was also really big.
The wait time after your order will be about 10 minutes but your getting fresh fried food

Totally worth !

Picked this place because I was passing through Victoria and it was one of the only places open on Sunday. I’m floored by how good the food was ! Don’t be fooled by the dated appearance on the exterior! This place has fantastic food and great pricing! Will be back next time I’m in the area! It’s almost always better supporting local small businesses rather than chains! This place is a classic example, just the day before I spent over double for sub par service and food at a chain restaurant.

I’ve been a longtime customer of Baytown Seafood in Victoria and have always enjoyed the food, which makes this experience especially disappointing.

I placed an online order for pickup for my family—over $90 for just me, my wife, and our toddler. I received a text message saying the order was ready, so I went inside to grab it. The restaurant was very busy with the dinner rush, and no one was at the front counter. I clearly saw my bag sitting there with my name on the receipt—and it was the only order on the counter—so I took it and headed out.

As I was walking to my vehicle, a woman ran after me yelling, “Hey, stop.” I stopped, and she asked if the order was mine. I told her yes and that my name was on the receipt. After that, her tone changed and became very sarcastic. She told me, “Next time I would appreciate you letting someone know you’re picking up your order,” in a way that felt very condescending.

I replied that it had my name on it and that I wouldn’t take anything else. As I walked away, she muttered something along the lines of “that was rude” or “you’re rude.” What really bothered me is that she said she was trying to verify the order—but never actually did. She didn’t ask for a receipt, ID, or name. The whole interaction felt unnecessary and unprofessional.

Once I got home, I called the restaurant to address what happened. I was told the woman’s name was Angela—and that she is a manager—which honestly shocked me. I then asked the person I was speaking with to put me on the phone with her directly.

When I spoke with Angela, I explained that I was picking up my own order—not someone else’s—and she responded, “How am I supposed to know that?” I told her again that the order was mine, that I had paid for it, and that I was not a delivery driver. In a very condescending tone, she repeated, “Well how am I supposed to know that? I followed protocol. I did nothing wrong.”

Every time I tried to respond, she cut me off by saying, “I’m talking, I’m talking,” in a way that felt like she was speaking to a child rather than a paying customer.

If that’s the case, then it goes both ways. I was a paying customer who had just spent a lot of money on dinner for my family. I saw my order clearly labeled with my name, knew it had already been paid for, and picked it up so I wouldn’t have to wait any longer than necessary. How am I supposed to know about some “protocol” that customers are never informed of?

I completely understand wanting to make sure orders go to the correct customer, but the way this was handled—especially by a manager—was unacceptable. Talking down to customers, refusing to listen, and placing all the blame on the customer is not good service.

I’ve loved Baytown Seafood for years, but after this experience, I likely won’t be returning and will be taking my business elsewhere.

Update after owners response:
Thank you for the response. I understand the need to verify pickup orders during busy times, and that was never my issue.

The problem was the way the situation was handled. Being chased into the parking lot, spoken to in a sarcastic and condescending tone, interrupted repeatedly with “I’m talking,” and then told that nothing was done wrong is not acceptable customer service—especially from a manager.

I would have had no problem showing a receipt or ID if approached appropriately inside the restaurant. Instead, I was confronted outside after already leaving, and then spoken to in a manner that felt disrespectful.

I appreciate the apology in your response, but I stand by my original review. The issue was not the existence of a policy—it was the delivery, the attitude, and the refusal to acknowledge how the interaction came across.

I truly hope this is taken seriously and leads to better communication with customers moving forward.

My baked potato was cold. Had enough cheese for one bite that comes with it. The shrimp was spongy almost chewy and the fish didn’t seem like it was cooked. Long enough asked for more cheese and got about 15 little pieces enough for another bite of potato. Not satisfied at all the only way it would’ve been worse is if there was dirt and hair in the food I’ve been here before many times prices have gone up fairly high service is not very personal. Probably won’t come here again.

Very tasty, clean, and restaurant with options for a good price.

I went around lunchtime so it wasn’t too busy. The server was very polite and many of the servers had on fish/sea themed shirts on so it added to the atmosphere.

I ordered 3 catfish dinner which came with French fries and a salad. They do have Thousand Island dressing. The portion size is rather big; you get big size fried fish for what you order.

Service was very quick as well my food was out before I even finished my salad. Good on refills, too.

Overall very good experience ill probably eat here again!

Ate here while I was in Victoria working at the Caterpillar plant. I had the Blackened Red Snapper with crawfish ettoufe and Cajun fried rice. For dessert I had a slice of key lime pie. It was a really great meal.

I had a difficult time rating this restaurant. I really enjoyed the overall aesthetic, and the customer service was really outstanding. But the food itself was a bit mediocre and disregarding in some basic food principles that I simply can’t ignore.

I ordered a blackened fish with a creole sauce, it came with a small salad, a side of veggies, and a bit of rice. The fish came smothered in that sauce. Why? Why drown that beautiful blackened filet in a sauce? Of course it came out soggy. What should have been a crisp, darkened crust turned into a mushy mess. The joy of blackened fish is that flavorful, crispy coating and it’s completely ruined here. My favorite parts of this fish were the tail bits where it remained crispy and untouched by sauce.

This whole issue would’ve been rectified if it were poured sparingly over the fish, or on the side, or perhaps given its own separate container for dipping or pouring. That’s my one suggestion for this restaurant. Aborting a beautiful, blackened, crispy fish in its infancy should be a crime in the state of Texas.

Wrapping this up, let me just talk flavors real quick. I did feel like the rice and veggies were equally bland, but the sauce went well with both. It’s hard to scrutinize the individual flavors when all the elements of dish seem to be trying to work together, and it does sort of work.

I have to give this place a 3 for now, but it may be deserving of something higher. Their menu was vast, and I’m considering going back to try something else to further hone down my review. It just felt like the cook(s) misunderstand the purpose and joy of a blackened fish. And that makes it difficult to trust this place a second time.

We stopped for dinner while visiting Victoria, TX. I had grilled shrimp and hubby had crab legs. The loaded baked potato was hot and done to perfection with butter, cheese and sour creme. The coleslaw was some of the best we’ve ever had. My shrimp were large and blackened and well cooked. Hubby described his crab as excellent and some of the best and freshest crab he’s ever had. We were too full to have dessert. It is a very casual setting. The service was very good and our server checked often to see if we needed anything. We also noticed they do a good carry out business as well. We will return the next time we visit Victoria.

This was some of the best seafood I have ever had. The batter on the fried gator is phenomenal and their spicy sauce they serve with it, alone, is deserving of a 5 star review. The rest of my meal could have been horrible and I still would recommend this place based on their gator and sauce. The grilled shrimp and scallops were just as amazing though. Service was friendly and quick. Can’t wait to come back for more next time I’m in town.

A great seafood place to stop and relax. Wife and I were coming back to the Rio Grande Valley from Houston. We were hungry and started a search for restaurants near by on google. Restaurant caught our eye due to the good reviews. We stopped by and the outside of restaurant wasn’t impressive and looked old. Once we went inside it was a different story. Everything looked well kept and clean. Our waitress was friendly and courteous. We had shrimp cocktails, crab patties and mixed plate of fish, shrimp and oysters. Everything was delicious and would come back. Highly recommend it to family and friends.
