Hello!! Today’s my birthday and my wonderful children took me Colo’s Southern Cafe because I was craving soul food. We had a wonderful time. We did have to wait a bit for our order but the atmosphere was nice and when we got our food it was awesome. I got the beef rib and two links with potato salad and greens. Oh my goodness the beef ribs were huge!! It was so good my daughter got the sticky fried ribs and my son got the pork ribs. They both got macaroni and cheese and they loved it. The service was awesome even though they were super busy. I recommend you get there early. A wonderful time & experience!!

Really good flavor, definitely homemade. Rice was mushy but the gravy helped. Greens were good. The macaroni and cheese, OH MY GOODNESS was awesome!!! Love the multiple cheeses! I didn’t give higher rating because of the fact I asked if the smothered chicken was dark meat. I told both people that I didn’t want white meat. I got home to find that they gave me chicken breast strips!!! They were out of peach cobbler so I got the sweet potato pie. Not only was the pie burnt, it was made with yams not sweet potatoes.

I admit I ate the side of macaroni and cheese while driving. I just had to finish it. It was like lays potato chip commercial, I couldn’t eat just one bite !

Thank you for your prompt response. The young ladies that were taking the orders should know what parts of chicken is being served. It would’ve allowed me to order something different. Considering the fact that I’m new to the area there’s no way for me to have known what was no longer on the menu. I thought they were providing accurate information.

I have been cooking for at least 4 decades so I definitely know the difference between sweet potatoes and yams as well as pumpkin. No matter which of the pies listed, ones first bite should not be just potato. It should’ve been smoother which avails the opportunity to taste spices throughout. I say it was yam pie because that’s what it tasted like as well as the color.

I’m disappointed the owner deleted their response. I merely posted my opinions and posted pictures of food I purchased. Perhaps in the future instead of snapping at a customer, reach out and attempt to provide assistance.

Well I was very hopeful after reading the reviews and planned on ordering one thing but because they were out of fish and macaroni n cheese, I switched my plans and ordered the oxtails… well they were $30 plus dollars (with rice and two additional sides which is typical from my experience in Houston, Tx but in Houston it’s $17 and you get 5 large oxtails) nonetheless the price didn’t deter me because after all I am in the expensive high cost living California … got my plate and was sorely disappointed… hadn’t even gotten out the restaurant when checking my bag which was placed on the table by the staff, gravy everywhere, rice mushy, three very small oxtails and minimal sides of sweet potatoes and greens (see picture) but was missing my cornbread, got my cornbread and left… finally sit down to eat and was still hopeful; however, the oxtails were bland, sweet potatoes tasted like lemon juice nothing sweet about them at all, my cornbread was soaked in the remaining gravy which spilled even more… quality of plate I’m presuming… for $30 plus dollars and tip 41.00 total I had to add seasoning and hot sauce to the very tender oxtails and I ate tasty greens as they were! Gave the mushy rice, bland gravy, and sweet potatoes to my dog after I finished but she wouldn’t touch the sweet potatoes either!! Definitely not worth the price!!! I went to this place off Google suggestion because I was looking for another soul food place my cousin recommended which happened to be closed. Very disappointing to say the least!! To end on a positive note, the staff was nice and the atmosphere was cozy as I ordered and waited for my food (which is why I gave 2 stars versus 1)

It is exactly as they say Love, Peace & Soulfood. When you first walk in there is a nice little bar, a welcoming waitress that’ll introduce you to menu. Wonderful menu, BTW, a delicious variety of Soulfood meals, drinks, desserts and sidekicks to choose from. They’ll take your order and you get to choose your table game of choice. I don’t remember all of them but me and my company chose dominos which was fun playing while waiting for our food to arrive. They seemed to have a lot more things things to do there but I forgot to ask distracted by the fun games and food. But overall really nice, clean place to enjoy with friends and family.

It took at least 45 minutes or more to get our food but they offered UNO cards to keep us busy so it was like a “family game day” during the wait. I was truly disappointed in the taste of the oxtails (which only received one of) but 5 people that tasted it including myself tasted gumbo roux in the gravy. It was horrible! Not sure if that’s how they prepare their oxtails or since they ran out of gumbo that day they decided to add the roux to the oxtail gravy. It was disappointing but I didn’t complain. I immediately asked for a to go box. The yams get one star and the greens get five stars! That all that I ate from my $42 plate. The fried chicken looked and tasted like it was prepared in old grease.
