First time here at Battambang — unbelievably excellent!

Cozy Cambodian spot located in Oakland Chinatown. Warm and friendly staff with fragrant and unique menu items.

I don’t often come by many Cambodian restaurants, so I was excited to flip through the menu and try some new items. We ordered the Tamarind Eggplant, Pan Fried Catfish, and the Battambong Noodles. All dishes had ingredients I was familiar with, but slight flavor differences to what I usually eat. The Battambong Noodles are reminiscent of a pad thai without the bean sprouts; peanutty with a savory and slightly acidic sauce. Very good texture on the noodles. The eggplant was soft in texture and mixed nicely with the rice, and the tamarind sauce gave it a nice acidic punch. I really enjoyed the catfish and thought it was cooked well. The hot tea came with free refills, and I loved that the waiter came around often and asked to refill my tea, and not the other way around. Great spot, hope to be back!

The owner was very sweet. She was friendly yet informative of the cuisine and gave credit to the chef for their skillful knife skills to debone and stuff the chicken wings.

The National dish Amol Trei was so yummy! I looked up how to make it and it’s definitely full of delicious ingredients and a labor of love that I don’t think I can/want to replicate.

I try new dishes often and this dish really surprised me! I will definitely be back to try out other dishes. We forgot to take a picture of the food but our clean plates is enough evidence of a delicious meal.

The eggplant lunch special we got was soooooooo good! The eggplant was smoked in open flame so it has a very special smoky flavor and the pork and shrimp add a tasteful combination to the eggplant.

The lady who served us was extremely helpful , kind, and gave us recommendations. Really love and vibe her energy and will come back to try more.

Great gem! Really enjoyed this restaurant a lot and it was my first time there. We came for dinner and ordered a few dishes but they all tasted delicious and well seasoned. Papaya salad was yummy but I recommend adding a healthy amount of pepper flakes and it will taste so much better. The beef skewers were amazing and goes well with rice. The Cambodian noodles was good too and we would definitely come back to try other dishes.

Based on a friend’s recommendation, I treated myself to a meal at Battambang on a weekday afternoon. I was welcomed by the wonderful owner, who clearly puts so much love and care into her restaurant and her food!

I highly recommend the soup—I had the tamarind soup with catfish and prawns, and my friend swears by the lemongrass soup with catfish. You can’t beat this fresh, delicious, home style Cambodian cooking and welcoming atmosphere!

This place is amazing! Heard about this place from a very choosy friend and we were finally able to make it to Oakland to try it out. She sent us with a list of items to try, but since we had limited hotel fridge room, we had to make the tough decision to only choose one item each. We both ordered the Battambang noodles, mine vegan and his regular. We were both so happy with our meals! They make it so easy to order vegan items. We cant wait to go back and try more!

Foods were phenomenal and taste authentic. True Cambodian food, especially the soup (highly recommended). It’s a bit creamy, bright, hearty, and sweet and sour from the pineapple. Harmony of flavors packed in one soup. It’s called Samlaw Ktiss. The soup can be shared between 3-4 ppl

Hole in the wall place that’s easy to miss but has some unique dishes and large portions. The specialty section on the menu has a lot of interesting things. Staff is super nice and service is surprisingly fast.

We got papaya salad, chicken curry, and smoked eggplant. I’ve never seen the smoked eggplant dish in a restaurant before and I highly recommend it. The seasonings on everything is balanced.
