Great location, friendly staff, and delicious food. Portions were generous. We had the pork belly rice bowl which had tons of tender, flavorful pork belly. The cucumber and lotus salad was bright and crisp with good spice. It was a nice balance paired with the pork belly. If anything needs more spice, the staff offers up their house made chili oil.

Great place for Chinese lunch rice bowls downtown. More authentic than I expected for downtown. Quality ingredients with reasonably authentic flavors. Price was in line with other options at Understory.
Ordering was fast and efficient. Staff was friendly and were happy to answer questions.
My favorite was the Honey Braised Pork Belly Rice Bowl. It has tender flavorful honey roasted pork belly balanced with steamed bok choy on a bed of rice. The eggplant sauce was delicious. I wouldn’t mind a more bold mapo tofu flavor, but I understand that you’re downtown. All of the bowls were well portioned for lunch. The prices are a little high but in line with the other places of this caliber downtown / at Understory.
The limited menu allows them to focus on a handful of great dishes for efficiency. It looks like they have rotating specials / additions to the menu that give some variety.
It’s part of Understory so there’s a large amount of central seating.

This place is a rip off and the ratings it has are misleading.
First off, they have a very limited variety of foods (like 5 or less most of which are noodles) yet they’ve displayed all these different foods on their menu like ‘honey glazed pork belly with rice, or chicken tenders with rice,” but the poor cashier (who was actually very pleasant) kept saying, “I’m sorry, we don’t have that.”
Just so you know, I paid a parking fee of $9 and got served food worth $17.99. I didn’t mind but then my plate (plastic carry out container) had like 90% rice and just a little cod fish gravy thinly spread over the mountain of rice to fool you. I ain’t going back there!

Bāshi has become my favorite place to get lunch. The food is fantastic! You can tell Milo and his staff put love, joy, and passion into every dish. I’m always impressed that Milo remembers my name. He really takes the time to know his customers and you can tell he is grateful for each one of them. Bāshi just celebrated one year at Understory and I wish them all many years to come.

The Understory food court in the Bank of America Tower in Houston houses some of the most incredible restaurants and one of them is Bashi. This resto hits the bullseye for core-satisfying comfort food in dishes such as braised pork belly over white rice with boiled baby bok choi, spicy beef noodle soup, steamed meat dumplings in chili-garlic sauce and scallions and mapo tofu. Iconic Chinese dishes all done superbly.

This is my go-to place for authentic Chinese food in the tunnels. The food is simply delicious! For some context I usually get the pork dumplings and a side of ramen style egg – the portions and flavor have been consistent ever since I began visiting this place weekly. I can definitely tell that Milo and his staff take great pride to make sure orders are prepared with care. I plan to continue coming back whenever I’m downtown.

Incredible and authentic Szechuan food. I enjoyed the Chili wontons and pork belly rice bowl. This was amazing. And their homemade chili oil is to die for. Get you some. If you’re downtown and you haven’t dined here, you are missing out.

Good but not worth the price. Had the chili oil wontons. There were 9 wontons and it averaged $1.44 per, I had the vegan option. The first bite was super good, however, as I ate, knowing the per unit price, I knew I was paying mostly for the location rent. If you have money try this location. If youre on a budget, it’s not worth the price.

I stumbled across this gem in the Houston tunnel system. I was attracted to the orderly and clean openness of the store front design. You are able to “see” the entire process. I wanted to try a couple of dishes and spoke to a young man named “Milo” for suggestions. I agreed to his suggestions and wanted to surprise a friend who was from the country and “city” of origen from which these suggestions supposedly originated from. The dishes come “unmarked” in just a container. After bringing them home, I allowed my friend to be the first to try the dishes. This person began to immediately share the story of how these dishes were prepared when they were young by the parents. I realized then that Bashi had perfected what I would consider fancy “soul food” from the region. This was the very first time in 15 years that this individual took everything home. I was left eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner last night. Well played Milo. Thanks!
