Bas Rouge is one of the few fine dining spots that we keep visiting over and over, even if it is a bit off the beaten path in Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Date night at Bas Rouge
An unforgettable experience from start to finish. Tailor’s dessert cocktails were absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the evening. Our server Anna was completely on point—warm, attentive, and precise. Philippe’s thoughtfully curated wine selections paired beautifully with each course, elevating the entire experience. And Alex, the manager, was—as always—exceptional, ensuring everything ran seamlessly.

Outstanding service, incredible food, and a night that truly felt special. You must try date night here.

First time experience was very nice. I would put this restaurant in line with the charleston in Baltimore as far as quality of food and service. I had the salmon and it was delicious. I don’t remember exactly what the first thing we were given was called. It was like a soup with caviar(?). It was phenomenal.

The space is elegant and every detail is beautifully appointed. We were immediately welcomed and the service was consistently impeccable, down to the little stool that was offered for my purse. We had the chef’s tasting with accompanying wines, and it was one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere in the world. Cannot recommend more highly.

Bas Rouge delivers on atmosphere, service, and attention to detail, but unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations.

My wife and I opted for the Chef’s Tasting menu (seven courses, if I recall correctly), hoping for a memorable culinary experience. However, for nearly $500 on food alone, the dishes didn’t justify the price. While beautifully presented, they lacked depth, excitement, and the kind of standout flavors that make a fine dining experience truly exceptional. I’ve had far more impressive meals at significantly lower price points, both in Maryland and beyond.

That said, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, professional, and flawlessly coordinated, enhancing the overall dining experience. The restaurant itself exudes elegance, with meticulous attention to ambiance and presentation.

Ultimately, we just wish the food had matched the excellence of everything else. Perhaps it was an off night, but at this price point, there’s little room for inconsistency.

The pinacle dining experience.
Classic & Classy.
Beautiful & Delicious.
You are seen, you are welcomed, you are seated, and you are served.
It feels so good…
to arrive there,
to be there,
to eat there.
We make a yearly visit to Bas Rouge from Pennsylvania.

Bas Rouge is a truly first rate restaurant. No matter what is on the menu, and no matter whether it sounds like something you would normally enjoy, the odds are it is sufficiently exceptional that you will enjoy even something you do not normally like. When a salad is memorable, even compared to a steak, you know you are at a great restaurant. The staff are wonderful and committed to the restaurant, so always working to make it remain a first-class experience, year to year!

I can’t say enough…we did the 7 course with wine pairing and it was off the chart.

The staff takes time to go over the menu, the wines etc. Very accommodating and helpful.

We had reservations and we were not rushed one bit.

Highly recommend!

If I could give a 6th star I would. Bas Rouge is an experience you are sure to love and never forget. The menu offers the highest quality ingredients with creative combinations that satisfy the palate with every bite. The staff is very attentive and courteous. They know the menu well and are pleasant to talk with. The ambiance is romantic and cozy particularly in the colder months.

They have a very large wine list with selections from around the world. The cocktail we tried was delicious.

We did the 4-course (I highly recommend that option) with two appetizers each. The crudo was the best ahi tuna I’ve ever had. Very fresh tuna. The soup before appetizers is delightful. Savor it. The Venison for an entree is shipped New Zealand. If you love game meat, order it. If you love seafood the Scallops are very tender and seared with seasoned butter and white wine.

Bread with the meal is all baked in house and there’s several to chose from. All are good. Two I would pick are the cheddar and the pretzel.

Dessert is also made in house. We had cashew cake. If you love a rich and velvety cake with hints of vanilla and caramel, this is delicious. The chocolate raspberry tort with vanilla ice creams is outrageously good.

They offer us two chocolate macaroons with sea salt and caramel. If they have it, it’s very good. Very much above your average baked goods. They offer after dinner espresso and cocktails as well.

They were kind of enough to leave a gift for us after the dinner of a in house baked loaf of bread from The WardRoom and Corn Bread that was baked in house at Bas Rouge.

Date night, anniversaries, celebrations would be all the better by coming here. We will be back soon!
