We were treated to a lovely lunch, in a great setting with fabulous food and really, really attentive and friendly service…. what’s not to like? Despite being fully-booked the team managed to find us a table and what a treat it was. Fish dishes are their speciality and they didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a starter and a main which were just the right portion size for us. My starter was a lovely mackerel dish, seasoned perfectly and clearly fresh. For the main, I was treated to the half plaice with neeps, cabbage and Cafe de Paris sauce… absolutely delicious. We hadn’t room for dessert but the next table did and it looked amazing. Go on, give Barry Fish a try… you won’t regret it.

A warm welcome awaits – made all the more inviting with moody lighting and a contemporary setting. The staff are amazing – professional enough for fine dining but friendly enough to remind you that you’re in Scotland and to feel completely relaxed and valued. The food is worth a visit alone – the trout pastrami is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten and my husband, who is not a fish lover, said that the lentil bourguignon was one of the best vegetarian dishes he’s ever had. An absolute bonus is that it’s dog friendly and my Pomeranian was thoroughly spoilt and gushed over. It is an Edinburgh must!

Had such an amazing meal here. The food was incredible and the service was friendly and great. Nice relaxed atmosphere too – felt fancy but not stuffy. Barry even served us our side of potatoes! Will be back.

I had a wonderful experience at Barry Fish and found everything to be faultless. My food was incredible and I could tell that lots of thought had been put into it. The flavours melded and complemented each other very well and the presentation was beautiful.
The staff were amazing and looked after us wonderfully and the restaurant itself was lovely. Very cosy and intimate.
I would 100% come again and will be recommending to friends and family as a ‘must visit’ when in Edinburgh.

Barry Fish is sensational! We visited once before for dinner and decided it was our new favourite and have been so excited about a return visit. We were not disappointed. Everything is exceptional. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The kitchen can be seen from the seats and the chat and joy from Barry and his team is great! We had the signature Barry Martini (salt vodka and oyster vermouth) to start followed by the Seafood Platter. Stunning. Trout pastrami, dressed crab, anchovies, hot smoked salmon and oysters. This is definitely enough but we are greedy so had more oysters (insanely creamy and tender) and Barry gave us some complimentary scallops with crowdie and confit lemon. This is truly wonderful ingredients that are skillfully and thoughtfully served. It’s an absolute treat.

I probably just had the best meal I’ve ever had… We’re on vacation in Edinburgh and happened across a story about Barry Fish recently receiving a Michelin star. As soon as I saw it, I began looking at the menu and reviews to see if it was something my guy and I would be interested in trying and it certainly was. I was so hoping to find a reservation on an evening during our trip and we got lucky!
From the amuse bouche all the way to dessert, the only thing I could say was exceptional. We had the Halibut, Sea Trout, and shared the Leith Lyonnaise Potatoes, then finished with the kaffir leaf ice cream on shortbread and milk chocolate espresso delice. Seriously, exceptional! I’m only sad that this meal had to be in the middle of our vacation as I’m sure nothing else will compare. If you’re able, patronize this restaurant as soon as possible!

5 stars all round. Fantastic food, the chefs passion for his produce comes through in every mouthful- fresh, creative & bursting with rich flavours. Everything was faultless (focaccia & oil was a bit underwhelming, but a small point). Front of house team were just all great- super friendly with just the right attention. The restaurant itself is a lovely cozy, informal, welcoming, relaxed space. One of the best meals we have had for a very long time. THANK YOU.

Absolutely exceptional food and experience. Demands the mid-trip pause to write this review. The Loch Fyne oysters were the best we’ve had in Scotland – the fat, brine. You could taste the quality of their sourcing throughout – the scallops, bass, haddock – just wish we could’ve tried everything! On top of it all, Noah & Chef Barry were so welcoming and bubbly. The whole of it carried the easygoing warmth and confidence of a place run by knowing vets doing it their way. Location right on the Leith shore sealed this amazing memory. We’ll be back Barry Fish!
