The Barro’s Pizza recipe comes from Grandma Angelina Barro who came from Italy in the 1930’s, providing a pizza unlike any other. People may disagree on whether it’s the thick crust with its light, flakey texture, which almost melts in your mouth, or the wonderful spiced sauce that is the secret of this great tasting pizza. Barro’s Pizza also provides wings, salads, sandwiches, pastas, gluten-free pizza options, dessert, beer and wine.
Regional chain serving thick- & thin-crust pies, wings & sandwiches in a simple setting.

We spent $77 on four pizzas and some wings, a bit pricey but we are a family of six. It was supposed to be ready in 25 minutes, which we were ok with since it takes us 15 minutes to drive there from Tortosa anyway. I ended up pulling in about 35-40 minutes after I placed the order. I then went to the counter and waited there for 7 minutes for anyone to acknowledge my existence.
I finally got our food and brought it home to find the pizzas were cut terribly. I had to use shears to finish cutting them all the way through since we don’t have a pizza cutter. The sausage pizza had hardly any toppings, with some slices having none at all. The wings were pretty much the only redeeming quality of this experience.
Overall, my kids were fed and happy because it’s pizza. I was not, because for the money spent, I expected better. We are unlikely to return in the future.
Pictures are of our order and three horribly cut slices of the “sausage” pizza, which one slice very notably missing any sausage.
Update: I became sick later into the night after my visit, experiencing vomiting, stomach aches, and nausea. I would be cautious about this location.
I wasn’t expecting a gourmet masterpiece, but I did expect something recognizable as pizza. What I got was a floppy, lukewarm disk that apparently defeated the kitchen’s pizza cutter—because it arrived completely uncut. I had to perform my own surgery just to get a slice.
The crust had all the charm of damp plywood, and lifting it with one hand was like trying to pick up a wet towel. If this is the house specialty, management might want to double-check that the oven is on—or maybe just reconsider the whole concept. Calling this “pizza” is an impressive stretch of the imagination.
Wings were horribly dry, threw most of it away.
Pizza topping distribution had no care and clumps of toppings were in patches.
The way the slices were cut resulted in 2 overly sized slices and a few tiny slivers.
The wings were drenched in sauce overflowing onto all the other boxes.
And it’s horribly over priced.
With that price I would expect some level of quality beyond their toppings..
The staff was nice.
The toppings on the pizza and the cheese were of high quality.
It’s been years since I have had barros, and it will be several years before I try it again.
Review #2 (May 2024) Barro’s is trending downward compared to all of our previous visits. We placed an internet order for a large Barro’s Special and 24 Traditional wings as carryout. In the past, I would select no green peppers for the pizza and add black olives. There never used to be an additional charge for this, but now they are charging $1.75 more, with or without the green peppers, so I got the green peppers since we’re paying for them regardless. The $1.75 is a steep upcharge for ten cents worth of black olives (please see the picture). On top of that, there was supposed to be a coupon which was not reflected in the total when I paid (online). The total was $54.24. The website showed that our food would be ready in 45 minutes. I arrived in 40 minutes and the guy who helped me at the register told me, without me asking, that a coupon was supposed to be applied to our order but wasn’t so a $4.00 refund would be applied to my credit card in 3 or 4 days. He walked back to the kitchen and retrieved our pizza and wings. I drove home with our food and much to our surprise, the wings were lukewarm at best. The pizza with the upcharged black olives was good, but not hot and fresh like it normally is. Clearly, the 45 minutes we were told it would take to prepare our food was a lot longer than it really took and they neglected to put it in a warmer while it was waiting. The food was tasty even if it wasn’t hot, therefore not really fresh. The positives of this visit was the guy who served our food; he did his job well. Another positive is that the most of the wings were big. That’s becoming less-common these days as many restaurants wings are small. The negatives were the upcharge for black olives that didn’t used to exist, the food not being hot, and they charge $28.99 for 24 wings and charge extra for a twig of celery (we did not get suckered by this, so we had no celery). Also, it really bugs me that they ask for a tip, both when customers place the order and also when they sign the receipt. The employees are not doing the work of waiters/waitresses who depend on tips because the restaurant is paying them far below minimum wage. That’s not the case here, but it doesn’t stop them from asking. Pay more and get less, that’s Barro’s today.
Review #1 (September 2023) Barro’s Pizza has always been consistently good in our experience. We ordered a large Barro’s Special and 24 medium wings. The order was take out, and we did not order beverages. We had a 25% off coupon and the total was $39.33 ($51.49 without the coupon). The food was hot and delicious, but they did not provide any celery with the wings. I don’t know if that was a oversight, or if they will only provide celery twigs for an up-charge now. While dining at Barro’s is not cheap, the food is good and service has always been friendly, including dine-in
