I recently visited this Mexican restaurant and had such a great experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting — perfect for a relaxed evening with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the tacos — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Each bite was full of authentic taste, and you could tell the ingredients were high quality. I also loved the music and the colorful décor, which really added to the overall charm.

Atmosphere was great. Fun way to customize and order food. So many combinations available. It was a busy lunch in the height of October. There were only 3 servers working and they killed it with service. Even though busy felt appropriately checked in on. Food and drinks were delicious! Will go back.

Barrio Tacos in Salem, MA, is a fantastic taco bar in a festive environment with so many options that it may be a bit overwhelming – in a good way – to some. These people will make a taco out of anything and everything. If you want a kitchen sink taco they will make it! (just kidding) The El Jefe selections change regularly (Caribbean Peach Tacos!) but many folks will just check off the boxes on a long list to customize their own out of the endless options. They fancy themselves a tequila and whiskey bar as well with a nicely stocked variety of both. The margaritas are beyond excellent. So there you have it- great tacos and margaritas. Highly recommended!

Went for the first time while visiting Salem, the interior is really interesting seeming to be from an old mechanics shop. The service was quick and affective with the waitress answer and explaining the concept easily. The ordering was new to me with sheets to fill out and build your own options. The food was all fresh and clearly made by someone who enjoys cooking.

Disappointing Experience — Not Worth the Time or Money
We had a terrible experience here. What a complete waste of time and money. There were five of us, and our bill came to $160 — and that’s without any alcohol. The service was awful from start to finish. The place wasn’t even busy, with only a few tables and a handful of people at the bar, yet everything took forever.
They really hype up their “smash burger taco,” and honestly, it’s probably the only thing worth ordering. We tried a variety of their tacos, and they were all terrible — bland, poorly made, and just disappointing. The smash burger taco was barely edible, but the rest were so bad we couldn’t finish them.
It took nearly an hour just to get our food, and drink refills were nonexistent unless you hunted someone down — I even had to ask the host at the front door to grab refills. When it came time for the check, our server was nowhere to be found. After waiting far too long, I went up front to ask for it, and the guy looked at me like I was speaking another language before finally tracking her down.
Do yourself a favor — skip this place. There are plenty of other restaurants that will actually serve you decent food and treat you like a customer.

Great tacos! The codfather taco is great and in my opinion the best. One downside to this place is that there is no seating area for to go orders. Another is the service is sub-par, the bartender who was also the hostess was very rude and disrespectful. Lastly, the portions are very small for the price, so yes, it is expensive, but the tacos are great.

Stopped here for a snack and drink while visiting Salem. The inside is beautiful. This place is a whole vibe. They even have some upper seating area that looks over the entire restaurant. We opted to sit at the bar since they were short staffed, but still had a fantastic experience. The food and drinks were great. Me and my friend both got a margartia flight and the margaritas were delicious. There were several options to choose from for your own flights. We shared a taco and some nachos. The taco was actually larger than we were expecting and it was very shareable for us and it tasted AMAZING. The food and drinks are incredible. I definitely would go back here when visiting Salem again.
