Barrio Queen is the best restaurant in Surprise for authentic Mexican food and craft cocktails. We are conveniently located off the 303 at the intersection of Prasada Pkwy and Alexandria Way. Our food pays homage to history and culture by serving fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine using traditional recipes from barrios throughout Mexico. Our extensive tequila and mezcal list set the stage for our array of fun, flavorful drinks. Each has a personality all its own! My first time in and it did not disappoint!! Had a delicious margarita and scrumptious steak quesadillas!! The place is really busy but they handle it really well and we were seated and served very quickly!! I recommend this one if your in the mood for Mexican!!

This was by far the worst experience we have ever had at a Barrio Queen. We’ve always gone to the one in Avondale and had a great experience by we had family in town and decided to try this location in surprise. We’re immensely embarrassed by the terrible experience we all had.
We arrived at 6pm with a group of 8 and were sat in about 10 minutes. That’s where our good experience ends. The waiter came over eventually and took our drink order. 20 minutes later, he came back with drinks. He left again and came back to make guacamole then left again before coming back to take our order. Then we sat. And sat. And sat. Some of us went through 2 drink refills and still no food. We were told they were placing food on the tray and it would be out in 2 minutes. If that’s the case, their version of 2 minutes and mine, are vastly different. 1 HOUR AND 20 MINUTES after being seated, we finally were getting our food. Mind you, we had a 6 month old, 2 year old, and 5 year old who we were just trying to keep happy.
When the food came out, it was a huge shock. The fajitas and salad we ordered were perfect, but everything else was TERRIBLE. They did not get my daughter’s kids burrito order correct, and we told the waiter it wasn’t worth waiting all night for them to correct. 4 of us ordered enchiladas, but instead ended up with a sad versions of rolled tacos, if you could even call them that. 1 only had chicken, and no cheese or sauce. The other 2 on my plate had no cheese, 1 had no meat and they seemed totally hollow. There was no sauce in them like enchiladas are supposed to have and they weren’t baked. Our guests commented more than once that it seemed like something straight out of a box, only worse.
The kids did not get their dessert that their meals were supposed to come with, and we had to ask the waiter more than once for boxes and our check. We would have talked to a manager, but after being there for over 2 hours, it just wasn’t worth it.
We will not be returning and we highly advise against going there to anyone on the fence about trying it out. If you want Barrio Queen, steer clear and go to the Avondale location.
Update 01/14/26 submitted the form they told me to almost 2 weeks ago. Still haven’t heard anything, they haven’t reached out.

Love love LOVE this place! Steak fajitas are to die for and omg the elote ribs WOW!! And love their vegan black beans. They have phenomenal specials. They have happy hour every day AND reverse happy hour at the end of the day Best happy hour deals in Surprise!!! not to mention they have weekly specials every day of the week!! Our favs are Wednesdays, half off all appetizers all day and Taco Tuesday, where you Buy one get one FREE and then Thursdays you can have one of their fajita dishes for only $19.95. It is a killer deal. The staff is awesome. Love the bright colors. It’s just beautiful here you can’t go wrong! We love you Barrio Queen!! Thank you!!! ❤️

We had a great experience at Barrio Queen! From the moment we sat down, our server (Alana) was friendly, helpful, and incredibly efficient. They made great recommendations, checked in at just the right times, and kept everything running smoothly.

I stopped in here after a Tuesday Costco run and was surprised to see the great BOGO deal on tacos. Service was outstanding and the tacos were good at an amazing price. I’ll be back on Tuesdays for sure.

Our server, Makayla, was absolutely fantastic! She was attentive and offered excellent recommendations for both drinks and food, making our choices easier and more enjoyable.
For our meal, I highly recommend the Trio Combination Mix Grilled—an absolute delight! The Caldo Tlalpeño soup was another standout, rich in flavor and perfect for a cozy meal. I also tried the Birria Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which came with a side of rice, beans, and fries, and it was simply delicious.
To top it all off, the drinks were incredible, especially the strawberry drink, which quickly became my favorite!
Overall, everything we had was delicious, and the service was impeccable. I can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu. If you’re looking for a great meal, I highly recommend checking out Barrio Queen!
