This place is a hidden gem and a must stop if you’re a bourbon lover. They have so many bottles and reasonable prices for what you’re drinking. Including a row of purple tops. ( IYKYK) be sure to check out the art throughout the shop and take a peek at the bottle shop in back. A lot of great store picks and again, good prices.

My husband and I moved to Princeton about 4 years ago from the Chicago suburbs. We were so excited to find Barrel Society–it’s a gem! We just love hanging out on a Friday night (or Saturday, or a Sunday for their amazing Bloody Marys, or sometimes on a random Thursday). The beer and bourbon list goes on and on and the cocktails are tasty and creative. The bartenders are very friendly and considerate. There’s a bottle shop in the back that’s stocked with beer, liquor, and other cocktail making needs (it’s perfect because we’re trying to build our home bar so we can run in and grab what we need). If they don’t have something you’re looking for in the bottle shop, they’ll make suggestions (or even try to order it for you). Their special events and trivia nights are so fun. Nick, the owner, works really hard to bring in food trucks from all over, so on those occasions it’s fun to grab some food and sit and eat in the bar with a cocktail or two. We’re so appreciative that he’s brought in so many great food options and comes up with fun events! Cheers!

This is a pleasantly unexpected surprise in the town of Princeton, IL. This bar has a great atmosphere, fantastic beer and bourbon menus, and a friendly & knowledgeable owner and staff. The prices on cocktails and pours are fair and reasonable. There is a bottle and can shop available in the back. They don’t have a kitchen but they schedule food trucks. If you are local, go often. If you are visiting the area, seek it out.

I would say that Barrel Society is the premiere whiskey establishment in all of North Central Illinois and quite possibly all of Illinois. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable. It seems that there’s always a friendly laid back crowd hanging out. The building and decor do a great job setting the mood and creating a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy the evening and some spirits! The only thing I wish was different is that it was closer to where I live!!!
