Barrel House is hands-down one of my favorite spots in Ferndale. It’s the perfect mix of a cozy neighborhood bar and an elevated American eatery. They have an incredible whiskey selection and consistently delicious food.
My regular go-tos are the chicken noodle soup (it tastes like home), the short rib sandwich—tender, flavorful, and perfectly paired with fries and au jus—and the coney dog egg rolls, which are just plain fun and tasty.
Tonight’s special was meatloaf with mushroom sauce over mashed potatoes and a side of roasted carrots, and it was so good—comfort food done right.
The staff is always friendly, attentive, and make you feel like a regular every time you walk in. Barrel House is one of those spots you can count on for a great meal, great drinks, and good vibes. Can’t wait to come back!

Great happy hour! Ample wine pours. The French Onion Breadstixs with French Onion Soup Dip were really good. The Walleye breaded in salt & Vinegar Chips was excellent as were the shoestring fries. Also enjoyed the Jerk Chicken Tenderloins with Pineapple stir fried rice. We will definitely be back to try the Short Rib Sandwich.

Had seen it online for happy year half off burger. So that’s what I got. It was okay asked for medium and was over cooked. The beef used was good, the patty itself was dry due to being over cooked. It had little to no sauce on it. Which is upsetting couldn’t even tatse it. The bun was good, toasted and soft. The fries was good cooked thoroughly and crispy. I had watched the one server wipe his nose with his hand and didn’t wash it, did it again while I was leaving. Imo this is disgusting, I’ve worked in the industry before you don’t do that use a paper towel and wash your hands you don’t do that then serve someone there food. Other than that it was okay but nothing special. It’s a decent joint for happy hour.

We visited the barrel house on Friday while barhopping in fashionable Ferndale and had a great time. It was karaoke night and the staff was super friendly and attentive. It was a good night listening to good singers and drinking more than we should’ve. We will definitely be back again.

Had a great experience. The wait staff were all very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is pretty cool, but it can be loud for conversation. They do have some large screen TVs. Unfortunately, there are no fire sprinklers. We started with the lobster ragoons, which were really good, especially with the mustard. I had the Jerk Chicken. The rice was the best part. Chicken was good, but the rice had a sweetness to it. My wife had the steak fries. They were good, but a little on the salty side. All in all, a great little place.

Great atmosphere and friendly service. My wife and I stopped in for appetizers and a drink. The drinks were great, one of the better Manhattans I’ve had. We ordered a couple appetizers and these were homemade appetizers, not corporate food nuggets, and they were both wonderful! We would definitely recommend a visit.

Wife and I came for a bite to eat. We usually go next door but we had been enough. I ordered the Arancini and she had the the Beet salad with grilled chicken.
The Arancini was crunchy smooth. The risotto nice flavor contrasting the exterior. The beet salad was balanced well with the chicken breast cooked well.
The service was wonderful. Considering the evening we went the Pistons gave up 49 points to the Jazz in the 1st quarter.
