Had a lovely early Valentine’s Day dinner here with my husband this past weekend. The restaurant is a lot smaller than I expected, but it felt nice and intimate. We both started with the lobster bisque and soup of the day (veggie chili). Both were very tasty! For our entrees we had the ribeye and short ribs which were both cooked perfectly. The brussel sprouts were also amazing. My only complaint was that the bar / service was a little slow for it not being a busy night (8p reservation the Friday before valentines day), and my husband originally ordered the wagyu, but our server got confused and wrote down ribeye? We still had a great experience and definitely recommend if in the Odessa/Midland area!

We came here for an early Valentine’s Day after a recommendation by one of our friends. We were seated immediately with no wait time. Great looking place on the inside.

Wasn’t too busy as we arrived, maybe 10-15 other people at the actual restaurant. I started by ordering dirty martini and my wife got a mocktail. Both were great! Took a little while to get the drinks but we noticed the outside bars were pretty packed outside the restaurant in the lobby area.

We started our food with lobster bisque and some house soup and both were very good. Started to notice the service was getting a little slow as it took around 20 minutes to get back to us to take out main order or even ask how the soup were. We chalked it up to day before valentines other people probably have the same idea as us to beat the rush. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case, I ordered the b&d wagyu as it came with potato puree for a side then for my wife she got the Wagyu short ribs and we split the Brussel sprouts. It took a little while for the meal to come out and it was placed down and the waitress immediately walked away. Problem was they got my order completely wrong. We didn’t see her again for another 20 minutes which I obviously ate my food by then cause we were hungry and it was great, but not what I ordered at all. When we finally saw her again I explained it wasn’t what I ordered and she thought I said the Wagyu ribeye which I did but I was brought a plain ribeye wasn’t the b&d signature cause it had no sides or sauce.

All in all the food was great but the service definitely lacks hence the 4/5 rating. It’s customary to come back within a few minutes to ask how we’re doing or if everything’s good for this reason exactly. Good service is key at places like this!

My wife and I had dinner at BARREL & DERRICK at 9pm on a Monday.

The modern deco dining room was big, clean and beautiful, with low lighting. We were sat immediately by our host at a comfortable booth. Our server was considerate & courteous. We started by sharing a Peach & Burrata Salad, and for the main course we ordered the smoked Turkey Avocado BLT with truffle parmesan fries, a side order of grilled broccolini, the Ultimate Chicken Fried Steak with whipped gold mash potato and house made jalapeño gravy, and a Elysian Space Dust IPA. All the food was phenomenal. This was probably the best Chicken Fried Steak I’ve ever had, perfectly breaded & fried. This was one of the best meals we had on our 10 day road trip. I would be surprised if BARREL & DERRICK wasn’t the best restaurant in all of Odessa. We spent $113.66 including tip, and it was worth every penny.

Thank you, chef.

5 star service every time!!! The food is beyond amazing. Its always fresh and exceeds expectations. The servers are extremely professional and accommodating. The atmosphere is good for a casual lunch but also elevated for an intimate date night dinner out.

came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. it was a very quiet and calm atmosphere. looking at the receipt, our server was Jimmy and he was wonderful – extremely polite and attentive, made sure we had everything we could possibly need for our meal. food was amazing as well. was expecting to spend more but I think the prices are very reasonable for what we got – three entrees, one each then a third to share (the stuffed French toast… YUM!) and paid $60. know that sounds nuts but for the nice ambiance and quality of the food and service, I was impressed and will be back!

My partner and I came tonight for the Valentine’s set menu dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing from the start.

After being seated, we waited about 35 minutes just to have our drink order taken. I wasn’t quite ready to order, but my partner ordered a Coke Zero, which was brought out immediately. However, the server didn’t ask for my drink order at that time. It then took nearly 50 more minutes for him to return and take our food order. During that time, he repeatedly passed by our table and continued serving the surrounding tables while completely overlooking us. The two tables next to us had already received their second course before our order was even taken.

Once our order was finally placed, it took another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. I ordered a spicy strawberry margarita mocktail, but it tasted more like jalapeño-infused water. I also had to remind the server to bring my partner’s Coke Zero, which he had forgotten — that took an additional 15–20 minutes to arrive.

Overall, most of the courses were underwhelming. The only standout dishes were the ribeye fillet and the black cod. The desserts were decent, but nothing particularly memorable.

Just be aware of the additional service charge that is automatically added to the final bill. The bill total over $400. Highly do not recommend.

My wife and I came here one other time before, but the highlight this evening was a 6 course Valentine’s Day dinner. They had specialty cocktails prepped just for the special occasion. The meal itself was something unique. It was a clash of French and Brazilian cuisine along with some other cultural influences. The mesh of flavors was brilliantly balanced. Some flavors sweet, some umami, some salty, some light and some robust. Overall, it was a great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The waitress that served us was attentive and friendly. I would gladly come here again to try any more of their future themed dinners.

Yesterday, I had a surprise date there. We were so excited. This was our first time dining together. We walked in, the place was nice. As we walked to the host’s stand we were greeted with irritation from one of the staff members. We ignored it and continued being excited. The irritated staff member was Yesenia and she would be our waitress. She took our drink orders. She came back several times rushing us to order. We were not ready. She and other staff members asked us a plethora of times to take our menus. Yesenia, finally comes over and says to us “If you are not ready to order, we will have to take the menus because we need them. This why we didn’t want to take other people without a reservation.” I explained to her that this was our first time here and we are on our first date and we are enjoying each other. I said, “ When we are ready to order, will you bring the menus back?” She glared at me for about 5 seconds and replied rudely, “They will be brought back to you because we need the menus. This is why we didn’t want to take anymore people without a reservation.” At that point, I was ready to go but my date insisted we stayed. We planned on ordering an appetizer and dessert but we ordered dinner and left. We will not be back. Yesenia was the worst server I ever encountered. She made sure we were aware that we were not wanted there. The food was amazing. The place was beautiful.

Update: I called to speak with a manager about my experience. Every staff that picked up the phone was rude. A manager Scott Derby, the director of food and beverage there answered the phone rudely, saying “Yeah!” “Who is this?” I responded, “I would like to speak to your manager because this is not starting off well. He responded, You want to speak to my manager because of? Who is this regarding?” I explained, “You answered the phone rudely. I no longer want to speak with you.” He hung up in my face.
