I wish they had more of a selection of mixed drinks. Went for brunch, the food was pretty good, we plan to go back to try dinner/lunch. The apples that came with the waffle were too sweet, it felt more like a reduction of apple preserves than what it was supposed to be. I enjoyed The basil candy on top, it was a delightful addition! We also ordered a chicken biscuit it was a very nice biscuit, needed more of that honey butter, but still tasty. The bananas foster French toast was the absolute bomb! But it’s more like a dessert, and should be shared. The friend chicken was fried well it was nice and crispy, BUT was under seasoned. And the best part is, it’s fried boneless thighs!! My mother ordered grits and was expecting them to come in a bowl, but they came in the form of over toasted grit cakes. The lighting was pretty low but they looked like polenta to me and my husband. My husband ordered the bacon, it came with the rind and in broken pieces. Everyone enjoyed their food. The server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. According to the receipt his name was Conner M. I LOVE their selection of whiskey’s and bourbons! Bourbon is one of my favorites!

Wide array of southern-inspired dishes, albeit uneven in quality, friendly but spotty service, solid if not epic cocktails, and a great whiskey-forward vibe make this a worthwhile visit.

This is by far my favorite brunch spot in DC. The food is always really really good and the endless mimosas are amazing! I have never had a bad experience or meal here. The staff is always great and friendly too! I always visit here when I am in the area.

Came here for dessert after the ice cream place down the street was closed for a health code violation

Good place for large groups. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great. Bartenders are attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was great – they were playing classic pop punk. Didn’t have any food so can’t comment on that but hope to visit again.

Southern style cuisine at a buzzy neighbourhood bar with friendly service. The BBQ platters come with a pot of beans, creamed greens, a biscuit-scone, and a variety of sauces. The thick, skin on fries are fluffy and crispy under their sprinkle of cheese. Long menu of accompanying drinks.

Came here because a friend recommended it and my expectations were definitely met. The brisket was really tender and so were the ribs, like fall off the bone tender. The sweet BBQ sauce was slightly sweeter than I usually go for but still good. The Mac and cheese was really good and baked well. The biscuit and ham appetizer was delicious, came out warm and the butter with it added a lot to it. I wasn’t in love with the creamy collard greens but it wasn’t necessarily bad, just not my preferred way of eating greens. The BBQ baked beans were super flavorful though. Would def come back.

Update 5/8/23: Yikes…not sure what has been going on with Barrell used to be one of my favs and staples. Yesterday was the first time in 2 months that I had been back and the vibe has completely changed 🙁 the chicken definitely isnt as good as it used to be , not sure if they got another chef. Usually the bartender would just drop the champagne off for the mimosas but she kept filling our drinks which was nice but completely unnecessary since we like to make our mimosas a certain way lol. I literally havent been there for about 2 months every face (staff, bartender, hostess was new) they were nice but just wasn’t the same 🙁
