Love this restaurant! So glad a friend mentioned it to us since we are not local. We have been twice before shopping across at Stew Leonard’s. Both times I ordered the steak sandwich – so delicious! The pizza we ordered as an appetizer was great and the dessert we shared was fantastic. Service attentive and kind. It’s cozy inside and we love the fireplace.

Food quality / price (value) rating 8. The atmosphere is contemporary tavern with a large bar and plenty of high tops. The lighting and decor is romantic, vand they have a decent enclosed “putdoor” seating area. We’ve been here 3 or 4 times now. The food is okay, but nothing special. Service is good. I often have trouble finding anything I actually want. For me, the menu is kind of boring. Today I had the Lemon Chicken. The two filets I got were fairly small, low quality, pretty tough and stringy. I was told that the meal came with broccoli as a vegetable, but it actually came with julienne squash, vwhich, for me, whena restaurant is serving squash it means they’ve stopped trying. They offer a decent array of draught beer choices, but most of them are low ABV.

I had such a great experience here. The food was honestly amazing — the Philly cheesesteak wrap was so good, super flavorful and really satisfying.

The sticky toffee pudding though… actually unreal. Easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. And the espresso martinis were AMAZING — like dangerously good.

Florina and her family are amazing and so welcoming — they make you feel like you’re genuinely a guest, not just a customer.

Overall, just a really great spot. I’d totally go back.

If you’re in Danbury and haven’t made it to Barnwood yet… what are you even doing?!
We stopped in and WOW — flavor overload in the best way possible.
The shrimp tacos were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced — juicy shrimp with just the right kick, tucked into soft tortillas that didn’t fall apart halfway through (major win!).
Then came the burnt ends sandwich… and let me tell you… smoky, tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. That sandwich did not come to play. Every bite was packed with bold BBQ flavor and just enough sauce to make it messy in the best way.
And just when we thought we were done… enter the fried banana cheesecake.
Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, sweet banana perfection with that cheesecake richness — it was the grand finale we didn’t know we needed. Absolutely awesome.
The vibe is warm and rustic, the service was friendly, and the whole place just feels like a spot you want to linger in a little longer.
Barnwood Tavern? 10/10. We’ll definitely be back for round two.

The Teriyaki Salmon Bowl was lacking Teriyake flavor. Not Teriyaki at all, and the mashed avocado in the little cup was “strange” to me…
The server came frequently offering more drinks… but from my end of the table (six of us) I never got a chance to ask for a side of Teriyaki sauces…

I’ve been eating in the building for 10yrs and I think the is the 5th name change. Always constantly good…

Menu has changed now a bit, and regretfully the food has now too. The price of a drink is ridiculously high…
Top shelf or not…

I wanted to like the meal.
It was a good group gathering, but if this night is a reflection of what is their norm, it will likely have another new name soon!

The last thing I want to do is jump to conclusions of racism but this seemed pretty blatant. I never jump to that conclusion lightly — and honestly, I tried to talk myself out of what I was seeing in real time. But after replaying the situation, I couldn’t unsee it.

My date and I had an 8:00 PM Valentine’s Day reservation and arrived on time. We checked in with the hostess and were told our table would be ready “in a moment,” which was totally fine. We stood and waited patiently.

Shortly after, a white couple walked in behind us and told the hostess they technically had an 8:15 PM reservation but were told to come at 8:00. They were seated immediately. We looked at each other but didn’t say anything — we figured maybe they had something ready and ours was being turned over.

Then another white couple came in with an 8:00 PM reservation and was also seated right away.

At this point, we were still standing there. No update. No explanation. No reassurance.
All three parties were groups of two. There was no difference in party size, and we were on time for our reservation. Being skipped once might be a mistake. Being skipped twice, with no communication at all, felt intentional and uncomfortable.

We were left standing there feeling confused and honestly unwelcome. If there was a legitimate reason for the delay, it was never communicated to us. No “your table is being cleared,” no “we’re just running behind,” nothing. Just silence while other couples were seated in front of us. What was the difference between their table and ours that we were moved to the side to stand and wait? Everyone was a party of 2. We arrived on time and were the first ones in the door..

I truly didn’t want to believe what this looked like, but it became impossible to ignore. We ended up leaving because the situation made us feel disrespected and unwanted as customers.

Valentine’s Day is obviously a busy night, but fairness and basic communication are non-negotiable. I would not recommend this place, and I especially would not recommend it to people of color based on how we were treated.

My wife and I came here for Valentines Day dinner. First time being here. At first glance, it was deceiving. They had very little parking, and the front entrance looked as if you were using a residential front area.

However, once you stepped inside, you were greeted with warm, earthly country style feeling. Nice tones of brick and wood. It was very inviting and made you want to stay until closing (which is what we did).

Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered the pork belly for our appetizer. It was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was amazing. She had the brisket, and I had the NY sirloin. Both dishes were cooked to order and very tender. As you can see from the photos, their plating was very good.

The only thing that I would change would be the french fries that came with the steak to potato fingerlings. In my mind, it’s a better plating idea with the whole ambiance and plating that the restaurant had.

Then we followed that up with drinks at the bar. The bartender was Lyric, who was absolutely amazing. Very personable with his customers. He is definitely the reason why we stayed there until the door is closed.

Definitely would recommend the place if you are in town and try their old-fashioned drink!!

What a beautiful restaurant! My mom and I had lunch here. The food and service were wonderful. Our server, Lirik, was friendly and attentive. My mom had the poached pear flatbread, which she said was delicious, and I had the roasted beet salad, which was yummy and a nice portion. We will definitely be back!

Barnwood Tavern is truly a gem! Every time I visit, I’m reminded why it’s one of my favorite places to eat. The food is absolutely delicious It’s consistently fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a full meal, you won’t be disappointed.

The service is just as impressive. The waitstaff is always friendly, attentive, and efficient. I never have to wait long, and they go above and beyond to make sure every experience is a great one. The restaurant is always clean and welcoming, which adds to the overall comfort of dining here.

One of the things I appreciate most is the flexibility when it comes to dietary needs. They offer a wide variety of gluten-free options and are always happy to accommodate food sensitivities or special requests. It’s rare to find a place that’s so understanding and easy to work with when it comes to changing the meal.

On top of all that, the owners are incredibly kind and generous. As a regular customer, they’ve gone out of their way to show appreciation, even offering complimentary food at times. That personal touch makes all the difference.

If you’re looking for a place with great food, amazing service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Barnwood Tavern is it. Highly recommend!
