Some of you will understand, but this is a favorite of my grandparents. The fried chicken does happen to be decent and the only thing I would get moving forward.

The food is a hollow memory of southern cuisine. Greasy, artery clogging southern food. Most of it is salt and pepper to taste, making it indistinguishable from any other old school southern restaurant. The BBQ here is also supposed to be decent, but what I tried was inedible, leaving all but 2 bites. The pulled pork was cold, tough, and stuck together like it had been that way for several days. The Brunswick stew was essentially a tomato soup with some vegetables. The eggy mac and cheese is fine enough, as long as it comes out warm. Fries are decent. The shrimp & grits was… quite not as advertised. While I wasn’t expecting much, I did expect it to be typical shrimp & grits, or at least what they advertised. The grits were no better than 5 minute quick grits with no added flavor. Popcorn shrimp deep fried with a side of brown gravy and tartar sauce.

The service is consistent in being consistently subpar. The only urgency is for your order to be placed. After that, they continue to check out you, but the food take entirely way to long to come out and in the two times I’ve gone, never all at one time. One of our orders was messed up, 2 legs instead of 2 thighs, and said if we wanted the thighs it would take 20 minutes.

Sitting at the table, looking around, I can’t help but concern myself with the cleanliness and potential risk eating here.

Now first off I grew up in Savannah and I used to eat animals frequently. However I don’t anymore. But my mother and son are Barnes chicken finger fanatics. My mother has been asking for some Barnes chicken fingers for a week now and I decided to run and get her some along with some crab stew. My mother literally dropped her jaw when she saw the chicken fingers pic below/above which ever. These fingers looked like they were crafted for a children’s menu. But yet the same price. Barnes y’all aight to be ashamed of serving this to someone. Little dino nuggets is what it looked like. Plus the crab stew was sitting too long not being stirred…. $45.00 wasted on top of one of your biggest fans completely disappointed. Can’t wait till my son sees his plate…omg

SLEEPER ALERT – best BBQ pork in Savannah! You read it! I said it and stand by it! Excellent tea and sides. Large quantities for a fair price. Nice clean bathrooms too. Why y’all giving this place less than 5 stars??? I was in town for work at Memorial Hospital and randomly saw this locally owned place. Decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve had a lot of BBQ across the US and this did not disappoint. Great flavor, great chew, excellent bark. The Mac n Cheese was on point and I loved the slaw. About the slaw! It was an excellent creamy base, but I was wowed with the sweet pickles in it. In all my travels, I’ve never had that kind of slaw. It’s different, maybe not for everyone, but it works pretty good. I was very surprised. Weakest link… the toast. But it worked. The sweet tea was excellent and the BBQ sauce was like a mix of Carolina and regular. I liked it. And finally, Tasha was an excellent server. Give her a raise!

I’m not really sure about Barnes to be honest with you guys. I googled the best fried chicken in Savannah and they were on the list.

We came here just to try the chicken because I wanted it for my baby shower. The The piece that caught the shakes of seasoning was actually good. I couldn’t eat the beans and potato salad because I was honestly scared. The building is old and dark, the hours matched the environment I guess.

My MIL ended up ordering 50 fried and 50 baked October 4th and I didn’t taste the fried chicken but it was all gone. The baked chicken had a good seasoning to it but it was just super dry. I’m sure if it wasn’t it would’ve been good.

Waited 25 minutes for fried chicken and a salad, not a problem. But where is the cheese, onions, eggs, bacon bits for my salad that I confirmed came on the salad when ordering? Nothing like getting home ready to eat and open up and be disappointed. Do better.

The food is always delicious here. They could really use a renovation & deep cleaning. However, Barnes is a Savannah staple & I really like their food. The shrimp salad is spectacular!

I had to return chicken fingers two times!!!! Not only was the manager nonchalant, but he was also incompetent at his job. He didn’t even know how to complete a refund. Instead of being solution focused ands ensuring cooks in the kitchen weren’t giving out old chicken fingers he decided to lose a customer. The supervisor was no better. Placing incompetent people in positions where the primary focus is customer satisfaction and problem solving is unsettling. Will NOT be returning.

I hope that Barnes will make this right. My order was placed Friday evening for a 11:45am pick up Sunday and we didn’t walk out until 12:40 with our food. At 12:20 they handed me 1/2 my food and we still had to wait on the bread and chicken fingers. While waiting I mentioned to one of the staff that they only gave me 1 lb of the 2 lbs we paid for. He asked someone and looked like he weighed it and assured me it was 2 lbs. Once home I checked and as you can see in the pic below it wasn’t even 1 full lb. You will notice the full container that someone picked up from Dickey’s had a full 2lbs in it (more than 2 lbs). The most disappointing part is to see the people coming in and picking up orders placed this morning and yesterday that were served before me. Why wouldn’t the manager at some point just cut off orders until they were able to catch up? Better to disappoint a few with not being able to take their order than disappoint the masses of customers that planned and paid ahead of time. That’s my 2 cents!

Ordered to go on the Barnes Restaurant website and it was very easy. The service at the to go counter was very nice and efficient. Everything in our order was correct. I especially liked that most of the side items were put in closed 4oz containers. It kept them warm/hot and kept them from getting on the other food. No baked beans on my fries and chicken fingers. Yay!

This was a take out order that I picked up for my mom (a patient in the nearby hospital). She got the 1/4 Rotisserie chicken with a baked potato (with only butter), green beans and roll. I forgot to take a picture of it. The dinner looked great and she really seemed to enjoy it. The only reason I gave 4 stars for service is because there was no butter on the potato or on the side in the bag. Thankfully, she already had some butter from the hospital lunch that she didn’t eat.
