Social Profile:

The Fishtrap Restaurant evolved from 10 years of catering parties, weddings, Farm Bureau dinners & Sunday buffets at the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society. The business moved into the building now housing Flavor Restaurant. In 1971, a complete kitchen was installed and that began seafood and Mexican take-out with a sit-down dining room upstairs. Barbara leased Hazel’s Restaurant in 1978, changing the name to Paul and Barbara’s Fishtrap. It was an immediate hit! Paul was the local harbormaster and after he died, it was renamed Barbara’s Fishtrap. Barbara is grateful to her customers for the ongoing success that helped her purchase the almost 100-year-old building that Barbara’s Fishtrap calls home. The Fishtrap success is attributed to our f

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was little (I’m 70 years old now). Back then it was called “Hazel’s” and Hazel, who cooked everything would come out and talk to my grandparents, who knew her. She always had a greasy apron on. The fishing boats would pull right up to the restaurant with the catch of the day.

Mixed fried fish is amazing and the portion is huge. I usually can’t eat too much fried food before getting nauseous but here I would definitely have asked for more!

I don’t think I’m too easy. But I do give plenty of 5 star reviews. Why only four here? Well, little charges here and there. Food was really good (though the tartar sauce seemed like the mellowest I’ve had). Decent drink choice, nice server, beautiful location. But 4% card charge on top of the bill? (note photos). And 5% for paper products if you do takeout? Yeesh. So a paper bag full of nothing but french fry orders will cost less than the paper for a bag filled with shrimp and scallop orders? 5% of the total bill, right? I don’t know. Seems takeout orders take less staff time, less cleaning, occupy a table, etc.. In the friendliest way I suggest; bury the costs in your menu, Separating them can turn people off.

After checking out numerous 5-star reviews, I decided to visit. The service was notably friendly, although slightly slow. The food portions were generous and plentiful. The crab was a standout, being fresh and delicious. However, the fried fish didn’t live up to the hype described by others—it tasted like ordinary fare. It’s worth mentioning that there is a 4% card charge, but they do provide a notice beforehand to inform you.

To be honest, I don’t understand why everyone gives 5 stars. We waited an hour to be seated at a table and then another 20 minutes for our food, despite the fact that it was ordered immediately. Only the horseradish sauce for fried seafood was special. Everything else is just normal. Add to that slow service and a card charge of 4% additionally to the check… For the three meals in the photo plus juice, water and tea $80. I cannot advise and we will not visit it again.

Stopped by this place for dinner since we were staying 2 minutes away. The food was OK, without any wow factor for being a seafood place. I expected a bit more.

Waited about 40mins during lunch time on Saturday. Worth a wait for really fresh seafood! Takeout orders are available right by the front door as you can eat on outdoor benches.

Takeout food is always good portion. Always a two person meal every time; perhaps a reason for the long line. But it’s worth the wait as it moved fast. Sitting right next to a harbor and fishing pier, the places to hang out and eat were plenty. However, there appeared to be a homeless fat lady who looked dazed or drunk and was sleeping near the end of the bridge. People were always staring at her and she would be heard inaudibly something because I was sure if it were safe to be near that area. So I gave a three stars for the atmosphere. Would give five stars if the homeless were gone.

This was one of the first seafood restaurants I checked out when I first visited California some years ago. They have the best fish and chips that I’ve ever had. They also have some delicious deserts as well as their clam chowder, check it out, you won’t be disappointed. Unfortunately, I only had one picture of the beautiful sunset view from inside the restaurant. I’ll get more on my next visit. Hey, I added a few more photos, and I wanted to mention, the preferred method of payment is cash, it will save you like 3 or 4 percent for the card fee. I just made another trip to Barbara’s today, adding another photo. Also, check out their new hours before you go.

Awesome place to go! Went on a Christmas holiday. Was expecting a cold seaside experience buy it turned out not that cold. Okay to dine their outside table. Enjoy a good meal with beautiful sea view. Their crab salad and calamari are fresh and tasty. People there are nice and make me feel welcomed. Nothing to blame at all.
