Vacilando is a neighborhood staple. The ambience and decor kinda make it feel like you’re stepping into another world. The staff are great and know a lot about the menu. I had the chicken shrimp gumbo and it was AMAZING!! Very glad I decided to try it even though I was hesitant. It was probably the best gumbo I’ve ever had. My friend had the salad with falafel and said it was amazing too.

This Black bottle sister restaurant on 15th makes me feel like I’m in a Hemingway novel in Havana in the 50s. (Love it). The patio is where the action is as I’ve been in many times when that is packed and the inside is empty I am perfectly content to sit at the bar and chat up the bartender. Check in with them to inquire about the possibility of that patio space working for your small private event.

We hosted our small group work holiday dinner here and the staff was incredible. It is an excellent place to share a meal with a group, they have a QR menu that allows you to split up the tab immediately. Service was great, food came out very quickly and was absolutely delicious. The ambience of the back room is so cozy and romantic, they had space heaters and blankets, but we never felt cold, if anything we were feeling really warm and toasty by the end of the evening. Cocktails are incredible. We can’t wait to come back.

I had my wedding ceremony here in February and it was perfect! The outdoor patio is heated and covered and made for the ideal, dreamy location for our small, intimate ceremony. All of the staff were incredibly kind and gracious. The managers were communicative and accommodating during the planning. We had appetizers and cocktails here before and after the ceremony, before we moved to our reception venue; both the food and drinks were wonderful. Our guests gushed over how much they loved out choice of venue. I HIGHLY recommend working with Bar Vacilando for any of your events, and I’m so grateful to the staff that made our wedding ceremony so perfect!!

I feel mixed about leaving a negative review here; this place is local and their prices are really reasonable, plus the interior is very polished and attractive, but:
The menu is super schizophrenic, with burgers, deli sandwiches, falafel, tacos, and Indian food
Only one dessert, and it was panna cotta, which already is a weird choice.
I ordered three items:
– a house cocktail that was a pea-flower gin lemonade with lavender. It came unshaken and unstirred, each part dumped unceremoniously into a Collins glass with only half-enough ice. The lemonade sat on the bottom while the purple gin and lavender floated above it; “You’re gonna need to stir that,” said the bartender as he handed it to me. He served it without a serviette or bar mat. He never refilled my water glass. I was the only customer at the bar for most of my meal; the dining hall was empty, and a few people were out on the patio.
– For dinner I ordered the “pulled pork” tacos; the quotations are mine, as there is a definitional culinary difference between “pulled pork” and other types of slow-cooked pork preparations. What I got was more like carnitas, and there was no sauce of any kind. It was served upon a steamed corn tortilla, it’s only adornment some diced tomatoes, salt and pepper, and a thin slice of avocado sat on top. No mole, no adobo, no chimichurri, no barbecue sauce, no aioli, no crema, no cheese. Just dry pork on a wet tortilla. I only ate half my order.
– I decided to risk their one dessert, which was also their only Italian item, though here assumedly more British, as the menu says it was infused with earl grey. I tasted no such infusion, and though the panna cotta itself was not wholly unpleasant, it was served to me in a disposable plastic cup. Like hospital food. Like the jello in your kid’s lunchbox.
I’ve rarely seen less harmony between what a restaurant’s potential felt like upon entering and what I ended up being served. It’s a gorgeous and breezy little place with very good prices, but the effort behind the product is absolutely not there. It’s not that the food is bad, it’s that the menu’s execution is absolutely rudderless. They need to pick a lane, figure out what kind of place they want to be, and hire a head of house that knows enough about cuisine and service to execute.

Beautiful space and ambience. Great mellow music. We ordered the cheeseburger, and it was fantastic. For the price though, it should have come with the fries. We ordered those on the side and there were just meh. The BLT looked amazing, perfectly toasted bread, but thin tomatoes and the bacon was burnt beyond being edible. So black it had to be toxic and something that shouldn’t be eaten–so I left much of that on my plate. Espresso martini was delicious. Service was non-existent. We didn’t feel any warm fuzzies, no hello-no goodbye, just a silent offering of water, which made us feel unwelcome. And then they want a tip, to boot. Much room for improvement as the space has potential to feel warm and inviting.

My food pics speak for themselves. What they don’t say is how great the staff are! Ben is our usual lunchtime server and he’s awesome! It’s a great place to regroup after a hectic work morning! The Vacilando burgers and the chaat chicken are a must try. And the onion rings are fire !

Such a fun place and really lovely outdoor space to enjoy in the warm weather (patio in the back). Cocktails were the star of the show – try the holy smokes and the tequila one heh. We got the tuna melt, the Reuben, and the ortolana. Also fries and onion rings Generally, everything was great, but more of a heavy food place. By that I mean, if you’re looking for a lot of lighter options, it might not be the spot for you. But if you’re looking for delicious sandwiches, burgers, pizza… this is a great spot with the ambiance to match. ALSO: they have a very accessible menu (see photos) and actually tell you exactly what is GF, DF, NF, veg, etc. really appreciate that!

My partner ordered the BLT which I did not take pictures of, but picture a stock photo of a perfect BLT cut triangle-style (best style) and that’s what it looked like and tasted like. He said, “I don’t normally care about BLTs, but I think I loved that one.” Well said, sir. I had the Earl Grey panna cotta and hot tea. The place is very beautiful inside and relaxing. They also played Waiting Room by Fugazi so 5/5 stars from me.
