Being Persian myself it felt great to see a little Persian restaurant in the middle of pacific, thousands of miles away from any other Persian restaurant!
I had visited for DC and I enjoyed my experience in this Persian restaurant! The choices of Persian music’s they play are great and I mentioned it to the owners! The Persian lady working there and also the Kazakh lsdy both are very friendly and helpful. I asked for sumak two times and they provided it very kindly. The foods, give you more a sense of homemade rather than a “restaurant” feast, which is not necessarily bad.

I visited Bar Koko & Persian Restaurant in Honolulu and it quickly stood out as one of the few places on the island offering traditional Persian cuisine. The restaurant focuses on classic dishes built around grilled meats, aromatic rice, and rich Middle Eastern spices.

One of the highlights of the meal was the kebab plates. The meats are grilled over open flame which gives them a slightly smoky flavor while keeping the inside tender and juicy. The kebabs are typically served with saffron rice, grilled vegetables, and fresh herbs that help balance the richness of the meat.

The rice itself deserves mention because Persian cuisine places a strong emphasis on how rice is prepared. The saffron adds both fragrance and color, and the grains remain light and fluffy rather than dense.

Another thing I appreciated was the balance of flavors. Persian dishes tend to focus on aromatic spices rather than overwhelming heat, and the seasoning allows the ingredients to stand out while still feeling complex.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant feels casual and welcoming. It is not a large dining space, but the environment is comfortable and relaxed which fits well with the style of food being served.

Service during my visit was friendly and attentive, and the staff helped guide the menu for anyone unfamiliar with Persian dishes.

Overall, Bar Koko offers a unique dining option in Honolulu for anyone interested in Persian cuisine. The grilled meats, saffron rice, and traditional preparations create a flavorful experience that stands out from many other restaurants on the island.

The Persian food is acceptable, especially considering the location is in Honolulu! Very nice staff. Paid parking is available next to the store.

This restaurant is an absolute gem. The flavors are rich, authentic, and beautifully balanced—the kind of food that warms both your heart and soul. From the perfectly grilled eggplant stew to the saffron rice that’s fragrant and fluffy, every bite tastes like it was made with love and tradition.

This place isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an experience. A little slice of Persian culture in paradise—exactly what the island needed!

Deserves a 5-Star Review

Last night we went to this lovely family-run restaurant and had such a wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in, I is cozy with nice staff, and full of charm—exactly what you hope for in a small family-style place.

The food was absolutely delicious and authentic, and everything came out perfectly prepared.

What really stood out was the service. The staff treated us like guests in their own home—attentive, friendly, and truly caring. It’s rare to find this level of hospitality these days.

If you’re looking for a place with great food, heartfelt service, and a warm family vibe, I highly recommend this restaurant.

This tiny restaurant serves really good food and the prices won’t break your bank. We ordered the persian salad and the cucumber dip. You have to order bread to go with the dip otherwise there is nothing to eat it with. We ordered the sandwiches. I had the grilled cauliflower on Pita. I have never seen it before and it was good. The entrees are the best dishes to order. They are large and filling. The sandwiches were small and i was still hungry. They also have a full bar and desserts look yummy.

Their food is really good. I mean I’m not an expert at Persian or Mediterranean food, but to me, the food is equivalent to having your gramma cook for you. The Kebob plates are delicious and the eggplant stew is the bomb dot com. And the portions are good size, enough to keep you full. I love it everytime I come here. Their hummus is good quality too along with their bread. I’d get everything.

I had their chicken Kebobs before and they were good.

Great kabobs, good service, and happy to see a good Persian restaurant in Oahu. The chicken, kabob, and salads tasted great. Nice small restaurant so try and get a reservation before arriving as there isn’t much seating inside.
