I had visited for DC and I enjoyed my experience in this Persian restaurant! The choices of Persian music’s they play are great and I mentioned it to the owners! The Persian lady working there and also the Kazakh lsdy both are very friendly and helpful. I asked for sumak two times and they provided it very kindly. The foods, give you more a sense of homemade rather than a “restaurant” feast, which is not necessarily bad.
One of the highlights of the meal was the kebab plates. The meats are grilled over open flame which gives them a slightly smoky flavor while keeping the inside tender and juicy. The kebabs are typically served with saffron rice, grilled vegetables, and fresh herbs that help balance the richness of the meat.
The rice itself deserves mention because Persian cuisine places a strong emphasis on how rice is prepared. The saffron adds both fragrance and color, and the grains remain light and fluffy rather than dense.
Another thing I appreciated was the balance of flavors. Persian dishes tend to focus on aromatic spices rather than overwhelming heat, and the seasoning allows the ingredients to stand out while still feeling complex.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant feels casual and welcoming. It is not a large dining space, but the environment is comfortable and relaxed which fits well with the style of food being served.
Service during my visit was friendly and attentive, and the staff helped guide the menu for anyone unfamiliar with Persian dishes.
Overall, Bar Koko offers a unique dining option in Honolulu for anyone interested in Persian cuisine. The grilled meats, saffron rice, and traditional preparations create a flavorful experience that stands out from many other restaurants on the island.
This place isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an experience. A little slice of Persian culture in paradise—exactly what the island needed!
Last night we went to this lovely family-run restaurant and had such a wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in, I is cozy with nice staff, and full of charm—exactly what you hope for in a small family-style place.
The food was absolutely delicious and authentic, and everything came out perfectly prepared.
What really stood out was the service. The staff treated us like guests in their own home—attentive, friendly, and truly caring. It’s rare to find this level of hospitality these days.
If you’re looking for a place with great food, heartfelt service, and a warm family vibe, I highly recommend this restaurant.
I had their chicken Kebobs before and they were good.
