Busy when I came on a Saturday night. Bar was full but there was seating within 5 minutes at a table. Tried the kumquat caipirinha and house/BJ burger. Both delicious. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Will return.

We had Sunday Brunch with live jazz. The food was both beautiful and delicious, the coffee was decadent. The servers were kind and attentive. An overall very nice experience, a special treat.

The best fried chicken I have ever had. And a a bargain too! it serves about two people. the sounds were excellent but overpriced 24 to 26 bucks…. as expensive as the chicken. Happy hours till 6:00 p.m. And you can get the fried Chicken for 15 bucks. that’s about the same size as the dinnertime portion.

Amazing everything! We shared the fried chicken and burger, and both were exceptional + generously proportioned. The vibe was warm and welcoming, and our server Sophia was the best. It was busy on a Saturday night, so we were glad we made a reservation. Definitely on the list for a return visit!

Brace yourself for a conflicted food review. Bar Juliet is a well-known and revered spot for locals. Historically I have enjoyed their outstanding cocktails, but find their food overhyped. I often roll my eyes and accompany friends for dinner. Indeed, if you glance at the menu, you’ll find their basic spaghetti dish listed for $36 and their house salad runs for $25. Other classic plates (steak, halibut) run at about $40, but the portion size of these dishes doesn’t match the typical fine dining restaurant. Their kitchen sort of runs on-the-fly and so you are expected to order several dishes to share, which come out at their own pace. My qualm is you end up eating like you’re at a tapas spot all the while paying full fine-dining price for each plate.

Nevermind the economics lesson, let’s talk food. We started with the charcuterie board which was one of the best I’ve had at a restaurant. Lots of bold flavors and textures between the cheeses and meats. The focaccia bread was also fresh, airy, and excellent. I would actually recommend getting this even if you’re going out just for drinks. The peach-flavored old fashioned was a hit, and we also tried a potent lavender cocktail which was super unique.

The main dishes we got were well-executed. The steak was a petite filet that was superbly tender accompanied by a red pepper sauce. Small portion with a light salad, but delicious. The burger was very rich and had the density of a dying sun (just look at the cross-section!). Contrary to what you may think, this is a dish to cut up and share.

On this night, service was an issue—my poor friend’s main entree was forgotten. He ordered a burger for himself and we waited for the kitchen to roll it out and it just never came. I was prepared to give the place 4 stars and warn you to just go during happy hour, but will have to stop short at 3. Generally focus on the delicious cocktails and expect a few bites of good food here or there.

We ordered the filet and fried chicken (which our server said was their most popular dish). They were both sensational. My old fashioned was quite possibly one of the best I’ve had in Ashland. So many compliments to chefs, bartenders, and servers! Everyone was incredible and so kind and made it a really lovely experience. Romantic lighting, good date night spot. The only thing I’d flag is a lot of the tables are a little bit stacked on top of each other, really close proximity to the people sitting on either side of you. So, you know, if you’re having a sensitive conversation and the table next to you has a lull in their conversation, it might be a little awkward?

Regardless, I can’t wait to go back!

Best happy hour in Ashland period! The fried chicken is something special. I’m usually a thigh guy but these breasts are amazing. Awesome fries, $4, and $2 quality draft beers, are you kidding me?! “Chicken breasts and beer, my three favorite things.”

Bar Juillet is such an Ashland gem! I love the laid back family style eating, unique wine selection, and fun atmosphere. The seasonal, local menu is always playful, fresh, and delicious. From Manila clams to summer scallops to house-made pasta, the menu keeps me excited. The cocktails never miss and the staff feels like family. Perfect place to have a luxurious meal with friends or family by the creek.

Lovely!! Food was incredible – everything tasted so good, even better than it looks if that’s possible. Food presentation was on point. We definitely over-ordered for 2, but we weren’t going to turn down leftovers! They have an expansive bottle list (few glass options though), and an amazing cocktail program. I ordered the rum & rye raisin cocktail and it tasted refreshingly fall, apple cinnamon with a rosemary twist. The fried chicken was our favorite, along with THEE salad, full of summer fruit, nut, and seeds – a unique combo that we couldn’t stop eating. All the wait staff were super friendly, the ambience was just the right balance between quiet romantic and a bustling social scene. Highly recommend and would absolutely come back for another delicious dinner!

Such a nice evening at this Ashland restaurant. Four of us ordered five small plates to share. The crunchy pea salad with mint was delightful as was the spicy fennel pasta. The Burrata with rhubarb and raspberry drizzled with olive oil and served with pieces of toasted focaccia was extraordinary. Mushrooms and whipped ricotta tartine- yum! The beans with asparagus and a poached egg wasn’t so flavorful and the beans were al dente. It was, however, warming on a cold evening. If you prefer beans cooked through, pass on this dish.

Our waiter was delightful and funny, fantastic service. Nice minimalist interior ambiance. Small yet very nice wine list including an orange wine. Reasonable prices and good quality. Cook those beans and season a tad more for 5 stars from me! Great place for small plates and ‘good’ wine by the glass.
