Food was pretty solid. We got the Char Siu Chicken Rice and the Lu Rao Fan. Both were very tasty and well plated in the bowl. We also got the happy hour pork dumplings. The skin on 2 of them were a little too moist and fell apart. Others were great. Got the Normandy happy hour drink. Delicious!

Service was perfect. Stopped by the table to refill drinks often. Checked on us without being too much. Best bar restaurant service in a long time.

Atmosphere was so-so. We arrived at 5 when they opened. Felt like we had to yell too much to talk to people 2ft away. The music speaker was above us and loud. Probably could’ve been a little softer

My Once-a-Week Cheat Day Paradise

If you ever wonder where I disappear to on my once-a-week cheat day, look no further — I’m maybe at Bar Chinois, living my best double-life between discipline and delicious chaos.

Bar Chinois gives me that low-lit, velvet-smirk energy and whispers:
“Baby! Look at me… and, don’t pretend.”

Fresh out of my Sweatbox class at VIDA Fitness (because I do try to be good), I walk in with full intentions of behaving… and immediately surrender.

It turns into a classy little cheat-day unraveling — and honestly? With a daily Happy Hour from 5–7 PM, it practically sends me a calendar invite.

I strut in — skin warm, glow popping, endorphins showing off — and since you’re supposed to refuel within 30–40 minutes of a high-intensity workout… and I left my raspberry-chocolate protein shake on the kitchen counter AGAIN (RIP)…
I choose to refuel the glamorous way.
And fine — I promise myself I’ll be good for the rest of the week.

Five minutes later, my cheat day becomes a full-blown Cheat Day Massacre —
and honestly, who’s surprised?

㊙️ $1 dumplings — veg or non-veg, each one a tiny seduction with zero shame attached.

️ Half-off cocktails — bold enough to make you forget your to-do list.

️ Espresso martinis so smooth, rich, and flirty, they keep me more alert and focused than most men in the D.C. area — which says plenty.

Come for the vibe, enjoy the dumplings — they’re semi-healthy, emotionally supportive, and absolutely worth it.

We had an amazing time at Bar Chinois after a game at Capital One! We had been wanting to come here after a caps game for years after hearing about their RAMMY win. Upon arrival Ian and Mel were incredible bartenders who were so fun and welcoming. Ian made me a custom, creative gin drink upon request that tasted incredible and totally met my taste profile. The food is RIDICULOUSLY good, I’m surprised it doesn’t get talked about more!! Highly recommend the red chili wontons, prawn dumplings, noodles entreé, and the French inspired beef dumplings. It’s also worth mentioning that they play excellent music for balancing good vibes and conversation. A lot of bars in dc hit all the marks but play shitty music so this was a pleasant bonus. 10/10 no feedback

We visited and ordered the bottomless Dim Sum for lunch. It was delicious – and none of them were bad. We did get a wrong item, but it didn’t matter because we were going to order it during round 2 anyway. It does take a little bit of time for the food to get to you (which is an issue because the bottomless is limited to 2-hours, not quite bottomless, although that is plenty of time to get full), but it was a good time, and we’d happily go back.

The seating is a little tight, at least where we were.

I must say Manager Ian, bartender Nikki and Darryl were the CREAM OF THE CROP!!! This was my first time at Bar Chinois and I GUARANTEE it will NOT BE MY LAST! From the vibes to the aesthetics to the music to the MOUTHWATERING FOOD to the drinks!! Every single thing was absolutely TOP NOTCH!! I feel blessed to still find an establishment where they truly cater to the customer. They let me sample drinks before I bought them, gave me in-depth descriptions of meals and a true depiction of what’s more popular or preferred when I couldn’t make up my mind. I not only feel like I visited a restaurant but I feel like I’ve made a connection with family. I promise you won’t regret coming here, they’ve got a permanent regular!!

Great happy hour drink special where drinks are 50% off or $7 cocktails, not sure which. Authentic Asian food with a large variety. They have ramen and other dishes that you are looking for.

Manager Ian and his staff took care of us during our DC trip! We visited this spot 3x within a 24-hour window, and each time was an unforgettable experience. He was a top notch manager, and the food was delicious, AND the presentation was OMG! We had the dumplings, duck egg rolls, ribs, shrimp bao, and omg, the garlic noodles were on point. Raul and Darrell were on point…the whole experience was an A+ in the food travel reviewer world!!! As a southerner traveling to DC for the first time, this should be #1 on your list of must try spots!

The hostess was nice , I sat at the bar the bartenders working were friendly and attentive and made great menu selections. Absolutely delicious Chinese / French fusion food (and drinks!) served in a gorgeous, bustling space with super friendly service! I visited Bar Chinois for dinner with a friend after she had a great experience at their Virginia location, and we had a fantastic time! We arrived right at the tail end of happy hour so we managed to snag a few drinks and their $1 veggie dumplings ($1 for each dumpling, not the whole order). I’m usually not a huge cocktail person, but I *loved* their Coco Marseille — it was sweet but not too sweet, creamy but also refreshing from the herbs. A+ recommendation from my server! As far as food goes, the dumplings were tasty (and so cheap!), as were the crab rangoons and garlic noodles. The crab rangoons were crispy and perfectly fried, with a tasty and creamy filling that paired wonderfully with the sweet, fruity apricot sauce on the bottom. My favorite thing had to be the garlic noodles, though — so beautifully buttery, with a perfectly al dente texture, and lots of garlic flavor. The cheese is a fun touch, and this dish was truly fusion done right — the French (well, really, broadly Western European) and Chinese flavors paired perfectly with and clearly enhanced one another.
