My wife loves Dim Sum so we wanted to try this place out. Overall, the staff was very friendly, but kind of slow. The atmosphere is great and everything was really clean, which was nice. We tried multiple dishes, my wife tried a won ton and chili oil and the dough was absolutely murdered. It was just falling apart soft and there was no texture and really there was barely any filling. It’s a hard pass on those considering this is a dim sum place. My chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce was really tasty, but the proportions were off, way too much broccoli and not enough chicken. Also, it did not come with rice. You had to order that extra which I think is a little sad. My wife had a noodle dish with shrimp and she said it was excellent. Overall, we’re definitely gonna give them another try, but not anytime soon. They have potential, but need to polish things. On the way out, my wife did get a bubble tea and she thought that it was really good!
To those about to nosh, we salute you!

Tried this place for the first time last week and it was better than expected.
Everything was great. Veggies and spinach bun was a shareable appetizer of 2 buns. Kind of reminded me of the texture of spanakopita in a bun. They were generously filled and delicious. Yangzhou fried rice had a mix of scallops, shrimp, chicken and veggies. Portion was huge, husband could barely finish it. I ordered spicy wonton in chili oil, and mini spare ribs in black bean sauce dim sum. Loved them both. Seasonings and spice level were perfect. I’d order those again. We also got a selection of dumplings – pork and veggie shumai, steamed potstickers, and crystal shrimp dumplings. Loved all of them.
I love the relaxed vibe here. Our server was attentive, professional and gave us space to enjoy our meal with minimum interruptions. We were greeted when we arrived and she waved goodbye when we left. While dining, I saw quite a number of takeout orders picked up by customers and dashers, which is something we’ll definitely do in the future.
The dining area and bar are in one big room with huge windows that make the space feel spacious and light. Even tho it’s one big room, tables aren’t crammed together. Music is low enough to talk at normal volume.
We really enjoyed our first time here, plan to eat here again and highly recommend it if you haven’t been.

Enjoyed our meal tonight.
Staff was friendly.
The BBQ pork buns were pretty tasty, so we got a second order.
Had chicken lettuce wraps, fried dumplings and fried pork buns.
Yummy.
Try it, you’ll like it.

This was cool spot just randomly sitting in a pretty nice busy area. I was not expecting to find a dim sum spot out of all restaurants when I visited Discovery Place out here. Overall, everything on their dim sum was pretty good. I left with a decent experience and will probably be back when I’m in the area. BUT – and this is just a heads up to the owners – I was very disappointed in the soup dumplings. They have a very cool chalk mural explaining the whole process of the soup dumplings and explained how you eat it by first drinking the soup first… only, every piece that was brought out to me was empty. Never even got to try the whole experience. I LOVE soup dumplings so again, disappointed was an understatement. Regardless, I won’t even diminish a star from my review because the flavors from all the dishes were pretty authentic, and for the Charlotte greater area, that is rare! I’m confident the server would have switched it out but again, I didn’t bother. On that note, service was great and the restaurant is beautiful!

Love the atmosphere, 90s music, and the hot tea. The dumplings were good and the beef stir fry was delicious. The other noodle dish was bland. Crawfish dish was over price for the portion we got. It’s decent if you want some dimsun

Let me start by saying if I could give zero stars to our server Ahllya I would. We ordered pan fried pot stickers as an appetizer. She never put the order in and she couldn’t care less that she forgot. Our food showed up and we asked about the pot stickers and she said “they are coming”. We ate our entire meal and 30 mins later they still had not come. We asked her and another server multiple times about the pot stickers and nobody could tell us when they would be coming. There were 4 other tables in the restaurant. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken.. good flavor but it was not the least bit spicy. We also ordered the Chicken fried rice. Both were decent. When the pan fried pot stickers finally arrived 45 minutes after we ordered them, they were barely fried and they give you a vinegar sauce to dip in . They were not good and definitely not worth the wait. Unfortunately, we won’t be back. They really need to train their help and someone needs to be in charge. There is an obvious lack of leadership there.

We went for dinner, and this was our second time visiting. All the food was delicious, especially the pork dumplings, which were outstanding. Jessica was our server both times, and she was incredibly friendly; she even remembered us from our previous visit.

Update 8/5/2025: I ordered shu mai and the wrapper was grayish white, the consistency was also mushy and soft and they were smaller than the ones you see in the pictures from last year. I was hesitant but still ate it – I wish I took a picture.. a few hours later, I starting feeling a little unwell. Im upset that I didn’t get the same large firm and traditional shu mai and still paid the same price.. I called the restaurant and they said it’s because they didnt add egg which affected the color but that didnt explain the mushy texture. I would not recommend ordering the shu mai here..
Marisa was a great server to us! We got the shu mai (AND IT IS LEGIT HANDMADE SHU MAI 10/10- I have been looking for legit shu mai since Dragon Court shut down), wonton in chili oil 7.5/10 (fresh, handmade, wish there was way less soy sauce in the sauce and more sesame oil as it was too salty), chicken lo mein 9/10 (had to add some soy sauce for a little more flavor, chicken melted in my mouth), and the sweet and sour chicken 9/10 (you have to pay $2 for rice which is odd but it was still good)
We ordered shu mai to go that’s how tasty and handmade it was!

I would not go back and would not recommend. We ordered the cream cheese rangoon, kung pao shrimp and rice (rice is extra $), and 2 alcoholic beverages. Service was slow and unorganized. Our server was kind but inattentive. The food was subpar at best. The kung pao had so much celery in it (not normal in kung pao dishes but willing to try) that is was all we tasted. The rangoon tasted stale and like paper with almost no cream cheese. Edible but just not worth it at all for the price. The kicker was we had a coupon for buy one alcoholic beverage get one free via text marketing and when we showed to our server at bill time, we were told that the coupon was for dine in only and since we showed at the end of the meal it was considered take out and should have been shown at the beginning of the meal in order to be valid. We were denied for not showing a coupon at the correct time? If thats the case, please add instructions on the appropriate times to show coupons to waitstaff when sending them out. It was not worth fighting at the time as others were waiting for the table and honestly would rather have just been told it was no longer a valid coupon. $8 for the drink cost was not the issue just the principle that it was some how our fault. Given our experience, I imagine we were not the only customers who spent there last dollars at Bao Bao that evening.
