This Bao Kee restaurant is a branch from the Bao Kee Cafe in South El Monte.
Currently it has a 20% off discount if you pay by cash.
I asked and the server said this deal probably will end in 2 weeks.

We tried one of the signature dishes in the Bao Kee signature 8 clay pot treasures ~Sand ginger chicken wing (you need to wait 25 minutes.)
When it arrives, the hot sizzling sound is appealing. (Check out my video for this restaurant)
Although the taste is standard but I am very surprised with the section of the chicken wing. It is small and tender and that part of the meat I don’t see it in the supermarket.
Overall taste grade is B
2
The traditional Cantonese dish ~ Mui Heong salted fish with mince pork.
This is a steamed dish and you need to wait 25 minutes.
I am happy that this dish is NOT salty as the other Cantonese restaurants. It has the perfect balance of taste and tenderness. The 2 salted eggs are the cherries on top. However, I did NOT see or taste the salted fish. Hum….
Anyway, the overall taste grade is B+
We are lucky that if you dine during the lunch time, the rice is free. Or else you need to order the rice separately. The rice portion is big, however, one of the rice bowl contains the VERY BOTTOM of the rice pot. (See my picture). I don’t think that is the right and professional way to serve a customer with that portion of the rice. Therefore, that deducts a star for this restaurant.
The service is good and the atmosphere is standard.
In conclusion, the prices for this restaurant are a bit high in my opinion. I will ONLY come back if the 20% off discount continues.

Service staffs were attentive and worked quickly to serve customers.

Salt and Pepper Calamari – Crunchy, seasoned well, not too spicy
Szechwan Eggplant – hint of spice, stayed hot (temperature wise) the whole time
Beef Chow Fun w gravy – Tender beef, flavorful noods
Duck – typical, very good except, it came out room temp.
BBQ Pork – Typical and just like the duck – room temp.
If you are in or near the area and can’t get to Alhambra or Rosemead, let’s say you live in Whittier, City of Industry, Avocado Heights then this is your spot. =)
Missing star – I was quite surprised at the price of 2 Bbq item combo $31? Check out how small the portion was.
Other: On the salty side in general. Some dishes are pre-MSG-ed. Avoid where makes sense. Fast service. Wouldn’t be opposed to dine here if chosen by my group of friends. Just double emphasize the no MSG. Newly opened less than a month ago, doing well so far. Let’s hope they keep this up and not deteriorate in quality and portion as is the trend with new Chinese restaurants.
