I took my partner for a Valentine’s Day dinner celebration in the same week as this place and it was awesome. The fixed Valentine’s Day menu features three-course steaks, all cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor. My main course was a delicious dry-aged beef tartare with lavigote sauce, marinated egg yolks and sourdough. For our staples I would highly recommend eye tablets 300g and dry aging bov 500g! If you want to try something different. The French manager made sure we were well looked after and all the food was delivered quickly and perfectly. I would give this place 10 out of 10 if I could. Looking forward to eating more next time.

Be prepared to be blown away by impeccable food, presentation and service. Bansho completely surpassed my expectations. The food was SO incredibly tasty and delicious, but also fresh and delicate and presented so beautifully. I pretty much can’t fault a thing (other than the fact they don’t have regular Coca Cola). The service was great and friendly and everything was efficient.
I highly recommend the Salmon Tartare; it was scrumptious. And as delicious as the trout was, it was the Miso Veloute and Dill Oil that stole the show. That sauce was so incredible that I could have just ordered it in a bowl and drunk it with a straw. For dessert I had Pavlova, and it was phenomenal. Inside is a clean, fresh and refreshing lemon sorbet with a rhubarb base with citrus segments in it. It was almost too pretty to eat, but I had to get that in my belly as I couldn’t wait to try.
Be warned though, that this is a bit of a pricey restaurant, and not the kind of place you go to on a Tuesday night for kicks (unless you’re wealthy). Unsure if the prices were just a tad too high, or the portions were a tad too little, but I could have eaten more. You’re probably not going to roll out of there super full. With that all said, I am so very glad I found Bansho. If you love Japanese, and want to try upscale, fine dining, this is the place to go. It’s my absolute new fave and I cannot wait for another special occasion just to come back here again.

Food was yummy. Tempura and wagyu skewers were highlights. Bartender let us try the sake before which was nice.

Food took a long time to come out for it not being super busy. Waited about 40 minutes between entree and main

Good pick in ingredients, but taste was average. Some of the dishes were quite heavy which means to be lighter. I won’t recommend their duck breast.

Serious restaurant this one. Fantastic fit out and styling. Very cool feel with the leather seating, benches chairs and booths. Love the open sushi kitchen.

Food was faultless. Quality and flavours out of this world. Specifically the croquettes and wagyu skewers. Mains were fantastic as well. Both duck and lamb cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious.

Will be back to try everything else that we couldn’t! Amazing experience.

The guy manager was very attentive and very nice, and the short hair waitress was always smiling throughout the night. She definitely made our night!

All the food tasted great, thought the yellow fin tuna tartare had a little too much overpowering seasoning that we can’t taste the fish much

And the Otoro was not fatty enough, barely had any fat on it which was disappointing. However everything else tasted good

If you’re looking for what may well be the best contemporary Japanese cuisine in Melbourne, this hidden gem is it.

Each dish somehow managed to outshine the last as we handed ourselves over to the “Best of Bansho” experience and let our host take the lead. The progression of flavours, precision in execution and quality of produce made for an exceptional culinary journey.

Matched by warm, attentive service and a generous beverage list catering to every preference, the entire evening felt seamless from start to finish. An outstanding night shared with friends — and we all left in unanimous agreement: Bansho operates at a genuine gold-standard level.
