Stopped in to bandit while spending a day in Birmingham checking out the food scene. It was top on my list and I can say it didn’t disappoint.

Inside is cute and the perfect amount of space with a few outside seats. The stay was super friendly and kind. We made small talk about my trip and delicious pastries while I ordered and I felt very welcomed.

As for the pastries. I picked the pumpkin cheese cake cruffin, triple ginger cookie, snicker doodle cookie, and strawberry poptart.

Cruffin was tender and delicious with ample filling. The cookies were the perfect softness with a little chew and a slight crunch on the edge. Absolutely perfect.

The strawberry poptart was a little disappointing. It’s thick and puffy so you’re expecting a filled pastry full of chunky strawberries and fruity delights. Instead you bite in and it’s a hallow cave inside about an inch thick of air with a tiny smear of strawberry jam at the bottom. It was so little you almost couldn’t even taste it against the buttery pastry itself.

Over all 3 out of 4 being home runs I’d absolutely go back. Plus the hospitality was top notch.

We stopped by Bandit Patisserie and were immediately impressed by how immaculate the place was. The setting is clean, modern, and inviting..just the kind of atmosphere you want to enjoy a good pastry and coffee.

Ann Martin, who was behind the counter, greeted us with a warm smile and made some great suggestions. They were running a buy one pastry, get a drip coffee free special, which we gladly took advantage of. My brother asked if it applied to iced coffee, but it didn’t. No big deal.. we ordered, sat down, and enjoyed some truly incredible pastries. The savory Danish was perfect, and the homemade strawberry pop tart was simply fantastic.

What really made the experience memorable, though, was Ann Martin’s kindness. Later on, she came over with an iced coffee, explaining that she’d be tossing it out the next day and remembered my brother asking about it earlier. She offered it to him for free.. a small gesture that spoke volumes about how much they care about their customers and community. She didn’t have to do it, but she did, and it genuinely made our day.

It’s rare to find a place that not only serves amazing pastries but also leaves you feeling this welcomed and appreciated. Bandit Patisserie is a gem, and Ann Martin’s thoughtfulness is the perfect example of why this spot deserves every bit of praise it gets. Highly recommend stopping by,you won’t just leave with great pastries, you’ll leave with a smile.

Where do I begin? Step inside the door and you’re instantly transported to Paris, Lyons or Marseille…the smells are intoxicating! There’s nothing in the shop that isn’t good. A true French patisserie. I’ve promised myself that I’ve got to stop by at least once a month in 2026 to get the lemon meringue tart. Almost too beautiful to eat…until you take that first bite….soooooo good! Tart lemon filing, buttery crust and heavenly light beautifully piped meringue. And the service and friendliness of the staff is top notch. You gotta stop by! I promise you won’t be sorry.

A bakery using French technique and Southern ingredients in Downtown Birmingham, AL!

Bandit is the cutest bakery that also wholesales its sweets to coffee shops in the area!

Atmosphere: The bakery is small with the pastry counter in front of the door and seating nestled on the other side of the space.
Service: We were served immediately and got all of the items that we ordered quickly.
Menu items: I got the Ham & Cheese Croissant, Chocolate Chip + Sea Salt Cookie, Blueberry Poptart, and Choux. Everything tasted delicious and unique. The croissant was warmed up and had a flaky outside and soft inside. The cookie had a soft middle with a slightly harder outside and was the perfect mix of salty and sweet. The poptart was unique and had a blueberry jelly filling. And the choux was unique to me as it was my first time having one (basically a fancy cream puff).

All of the items had a beautiful presentation. I also love that they rotate their menu items so that new things are provided regularly!

If you want to eat a French pastry without traveling to France, this is THE place to go! Everything was utter perfection, simply fantastique—chef’s kiss! We tried the Nutella and strawberry pop tarts, almond croissant, lemon tart and choux. There aren’t enough words to adequately describe the euphoric experience of eating these works of art. Go try some for yourself and you will agree!

Delicious, fresh, locally made pastries and bread. The macaroons and pop tarts are my favorite sweet treats. The croissants and quiche are my favorite savory snacks. The coffee, chai and match are yummy too!

I love a good coffee, pastry, and a cozy bakery, but this was not the cozy coffee shop I envisioned when I went this morning. The cheddar and chive pastry I got this morning was delicious, but they had no way to warm it out toast it which was slightly disappointing. The interior is very small and they left the door open so it was kinda chilly. I may go back but probably on a weekday so that it is less busy and they will keep the door shut.

Love this place! It’s like a little trip to Paris. Small but well appointed with big windows, minimalist decor. Awesome wallpaper in bathroom! Decor complete with retro map of Paris. Great coffee/tea and delicious pasteries-flaky, fresh, cute and delish ✅. Staff is friendly and helpful. And free drip Fridays; buy a pastry/get a free drip coffee. As a busy realtor, I live to set up client meetings at places like this to showcase what our lively little city has to offer. This is what makes it fun to live in the ‘ham.

Ahh take my money. I wish I didn’t have a coffee before this place. The croissant looks so cute and delicious. A true patisserie must have that.

This place is small. About seat for 6 to 7 people inside. On a warm day, I think I can enjoy a good coffee and croissant here. I will say walking around Birmingham downtown, this is about the only good coffee spot.

People are so friendly here. Keep up the good job.
