Surprisingly good BBQ for being located on a military base. While visiting a friend at this base, we visited this BBQ restaurant. It had been open only a few months at the time we visited. The prices were very fair for BBQ, and the menu offered everything you’d expect from a BBQ restaurant. The service was quick but had a bit of that military edginess to it. The weirdest part was the seating arrangement-the restaurant looked set up for parties of 8+ at each table!
We ordered a BBQ combo with 2 portions of brisket an 1 of pulled pork. We got cheesy corn and sweet potato fries as sides. We also got the brisket nachos, which were served with waffle fries in place of chips. Everything was way better than I expected, though the meat definitely was aided by the sauce. They have alcohol available which comes from the bar in the same building. They have a limited non-alcoholic drink menu but did have kid’s slushie-esque drinks. We ordered one in an adult size and it was actually really good, although we got sass for ordering it. Overall, I’m impressed and hope this food brings some joy to this base.

My First experience here was surprisingly a good one. My Second & Third experience was inedible meat. Only the sides were editable. I’m still upset about the fact that I decided to give this place another chance. I have ordered the same thing within my 3 experiences here at Bama’s. Bama’s big plate, my typical choices of meat (2x Orders of Briskets). My first experience was a very generous amount of meat, no issues with the quality. For once, I had thought that I finally felt that my search for some decent BBQ was over. No more victorville, no more barstow for a while & certainly no more spending on some PRIME meat. But wait .. my 2nd experience was inedible meat & half the quantity that I initially recieved on my first order. It was so dry that I wasn’t even able to cut the brisket. Other than dried meat, there was nothing but chewy fat. Someone obviously didn’t do a good trim. $28 down the dumpster. My third & last experience was about a month or so later where I decided to give this place another shot. Only this time, I was actually able to eat one piece of the smoked brisket, the rest ended up in the garbage. Same problem & not the first I have heard of this place. How aggravated would you be if you spent almost $60 on two separate occasions and you had to throw away your whole meal (aside from the sides) within the first 5 mins?

Food wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad(it Ain’t TX BBQ) beer was nice and good, the cornbread was really good and the burger is Good along with the chicken salad. The staff is friendly and cool. I would go again if I ever find myself back at fort irwin.

The food was pretty good. Obviously with the very limited options here I was hoping for more. They didn’t have brisket and had to go with a second choice. It was just okay. Service was excellent. Mac and cheese was pretty good.

Friendly staff, great portions, good drinks, plenty of seating, nice outdoor area. It’s great for fort irwin, and would even be acceptable off base. I never have a problem coming here and appreciate those who commute here. Also those that are military spouses that can operate and allow this place to exist.

This place is crazy convenient. I love that. It’s right across the street from me. I love that they make the food exactly how I want it. For example, I can order pork without barbecue sauce. I don’t have to have all the toppings and every time I come in they get it just right, Always serve generous portion sizes. I really love this place. I will miss it when it goes.

I was pleasantly surprised with Bama’s BBQ. I was stationed here 10 years ago when it was just Sam Adams in that building which was awful. Bama’s doesn’t have ribs, but what they do have on the menu is pretty good. I’d definitely go back again.

Atrocious service and staffing. Place is 90% empty and the reception says 30min wait. Not sure why the staffing challenges. And this place is the only dinner option on most many nights. Even my to-go took 30min, though the food was OK. Not sure it deserves to stay in business, esp given lack of competition.
