Balkan Treat Box is a neighborhood restaurant in Webster Groves serving wood-fired Balkan cuisine inspired by family recipes and time spent across Bosnia and the surrounding region. The menu features grilled meats, fresh flatbreads, vibrant salads, and comforting dishes meant to be shared. This place is investment worthy. If they were going to franchise I would be the 1st in line. Small form factor, limited but excellently curated menu, and attention to detail on service is second to none despite the quick service facade. Not sure I’ve seen such a well run establishment since Michael Keaton walked into the original McDonald’s in The Founder. Absolute gem, this place. Highly recommend the brown butter hummus and the daily veggie flatbread. The burger is also an experience, though ask for pickled onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. Enjoy, friends.

I’d been wanting to visit this place for a while because of things I read online. We arrived on a Saturday at 1 PM, and there was a huge line. I didn’t give up and decided to brave the wait! They are very organized and have a very kind staff. We waited between 30-40 minutes. One of the employees very kindly explained the menu to us, so by the time it was our turn, we already knew what to order! Everything was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Fresh and very well-seasoned. The portions were quite generous and the dessert was divine! It was worth every minute of the wait. I believe it might be quieter during the week. Also, some people don’t seem to mind the line and stay chatting for hours even after they’ve finished—nothing against it, but with a massive line, I think it’s a bit inconsiderate. Anyway, an excellent place and a 10/10 for the food!

We had heard of BTB for quite some time and finally got around to trying it. I wish we had sooner! We arrived around 6:40 PM on a Friday and understandably the place was hopping. We waited in line to order/be seated for about 30 minutes, but the smell was a good companion. It’s definitely a noisy atmosphere and not a lot of seating, but the staff was extremely on top of everything. They made sure no one claimed tables before ordering so the line kept moving consistently.
Now, the food. Per recommendations from friends, we got the brown butter hummus and wow. It was warm, had chili oil, and the perfect amount of toasted flat bread. So so so so good. We ordered the beef pide and the halal chicken doner. We preferred the beef pide (every flavorful) over the doner. I did like the feta on the doner. We topped it off with a baklava dessert, which was also yummy but a bit overpriced for such a tiny portion.

Amazing food and service! It’s in the running for the James beard award and there’s no question as to why. I’ve never had Bosnian food before and it’s so delicious! We got the special appetizer (eggplant and yogurt dip w fresh homemade bread), beef pide, cevapi, white chocolate mousse dessert. Will be going here for the rest of my life!

Outstanding food, service, and environment. I ordered a lot for my small group and had the opportunity to try everything! I enjoyed everything that was ordered. The doner is delicious (I should have ordered 2). The Wrap was my favorite and a menu item that I would return for over and over again. The burger was unique, but I loved it! Plthis location has a reputation that is well deserved, and I cannot wait to return. Lines are usually long, but my visit was excellent. Early afternoon visit during a weekday is the way to go!

This place was an event, from start to finish. My boyfriend and I visited from Kansas City and had one place we could eat before heading home – this was the top local recommendation so off we went. You couldn’t tell from the outside, but the moment we stepped inside, it was a bustling cozy atmosphere with EVERY single table full and a line to get to the register to order. We waited in the line of a few people, were given a menu to look over that didn’t make a ton of sense to us since the ingredients are much different than what we’re used to, and I spent the whole time in line panicking that we wouldn’t have a place to sit and should maybe turn around and find somewhere else to eat.
But once we got to the front and it was time to order, like an act of God, a couple tables instantly opened up and we had a spot secured for us.
The guy running the register was so easy to connect with, friendly and warm. He helped us pick out his recommendations the best tour of Balkan type meal since we didn’t have a clue what we should choose.
We got the #1 Cisepi and the #3 Doner. When we got to our table, the drinks were already there waiting on us.
This meal changed our lives. It was so incredible, the various bold flavors complimented each other perfectly, it was freshly made, it was different than what we’re used to. We got the hummus and pita appetizer as well and it was to die for. Our guy from the front checked on us halfway through and we thanked him for his excellent recommendations.
We have talked about it for days since, and I’m now looking for turkish food in Kansas City

So, we officially stopped by Balkan Treat Box for lunch. This place is well-reviewed by almost everyone, whether it be a family member or a pro food critic. So, of course we had to try it out for lunch. Be warned, the parking is tight. We ended up parking behind a different business, (not sure if that’s allowed or not but it’s all that was available).
When you walk in, you are instantly overwhelmed, but not necessarily in a bad way. The store is small, it actually replaced the Stratton’s Cafe that we used to always dine at. The temperature is a bit warm, probably because of the ovens, and the entire place smells of Balkan spices.
The staff were great at first, but then faded away as we began to ate our food. The guy who checked me out was very informative about the food, but then it took ages to get someone to refill our water. Granted, it was decently busy inside.
The food was pretty darn good. I wouldn’t say it was mind-blowing, but it was flavorful and presented beautifully. I got the Doner, and my Mom got the Spicy Chicken Pide. We both preferred the Pide. The dishes came with a side of chips, which were crispy but unremarkable. Would we come back? Sure! Will I be recommending it to everyone I know? Not really. Overall rating, 3.5.

Wow! What an operation. I had been hearing about this place for years and it really delivered.
This food has a close place to my heart, having lived in several countries where you can get lahmacun and doner from casual street vendors. For those unfamiliar with the cuisine, they are very descriptive both on the menu and in person.

Brown butter hummus: pretty chunky with chili oil and lemon juice with toasted flatbread and crushed pistachio sprinkled on top. Parsley and mint garnish. Pretty good.
Balik Ekmek: grilled fish in bread with cherry tomatoes and salad. Comes with a side of chips. This was just ok.
Lahmacun: interesting that they roll it into a wrap. Get the spicy beef. This was good.
