Bakudan Ramen has been one of our favorite happy hour destination for our family, offering a cozy spot to relax with the kids early in the day. The menu features consistently delicious food, and the karaage chicken is an absolute hit with the little ones. The drinks menu also shines, providing a great selection even though you might notice a charge for ice—listed on the receipt as “rocks.” As a dedicated receipt collector, I double-checked my records and discovered that this practice has been in place for as long as I can remember! It’s certainly an unconventional detail, but I’m furious about the ice charge—yes, they list it as “rocks” on the receipt, and they’ve been doing it forever. Who the hell gets away with that?

The service was amazing. I never needed to ask for a refill, our server knew what was on the menu, and treated us with the utmost respect. The food was exquisite. Truly a great place to enjoy a good bowl of ramen.

We went to another of our restaurants in San Antonio, Bakudan Ramen at the Rim at La Cantera. One of us was craving Ramen and got a Garlic Tonkatsu ramen, we also got a chicken katsu Tokyo curry plate. The ramen was delicious as usual, the katsu curry was just ok. The chicken was a little dry and the curry was a little lumpy and not very spicy but we’re probably spoiled from or frequent trips to Japan. The restaurant and atmosphere are pretty cool and the staff/service were friendly and excellent. We recommend Bakudan for the ramen and a great experience.

First time to Bakudan. Overall a very positive experience. Party of 3x (one of our party included someone who studied in Kyoto) on a Thursday evening. About 80% full when we arrived. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere has the interesting Anime/Manga vibe to it, so it was fun to look around. Food portions are generous and all were rated as very good (yes, we agree they lack some of the kick that others have mentioned, our Kyoto member agreed the food was not a flavorful), but you can always add seasoning.

I went to Bakudan Ramen twice in one week—that’s how much I loved it!
The first time, I tried the “Pozole” Ramen, which came with shredded pork, hominy, cabbage, and radish in a rich, flavorful broth. I paired it with one of their cocktails that came beautifully garnished with an orchid and a chili-lime rim. It was refreshing and paired so well with the ramen.
The second time, I had the Spicy Umami Miso Ramen, loaded with pork broth, tonkotsu base, chili oil, ground pork, mushrooms, veggies, and a seasoned egg. It had the perfect balance of spice and umami.
Both dishes came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The portions were generous, and every bite was satisfying.
On top of the food, the restaurant itself is colorful and fun—the umbrellas on the ceiling, the wall art, and the neon signs really set a lively atmosphere.
I’ll definitely be coming back here again soon. Highly recommend if you’re looking for ramen in San Antonio!

A bar disguised as a ramen place; loud, crowded and not much room to sit and relax. The food is $3-$5 overpriced, the ramen is like the nice ones you’d get at the store to take home and fancy it up. This place is front loaded with esthetics and drinks. Over compensating for the food with vibes and Instagram-able selfies. I give a 3 simply for the fact the service was quick and the drink was the best part of the meal. It’s this sounds like your jam, then by all means go nuts. But there are better ramen places in San Antonio, like Kimura
Edit: as of the night I ate this/the next morning it upset my stomach.

Food is ok. You know what I would really love? If I don’t hear their music every Friday and Saturday night until past 2 am. I live in the complex next to them and can hear them like they’re in my bedroom. It’s currently 1:50 am. They must have speakers facing outside with open areas. I was told by code compliance to download an app of if I could to get the decibel level to submit to open a case. Normally it’s 80 and under for clubs depending on the contract. I’m tired of not sleeping every single weekend. UPDATE* it’s the next night and 2:10 am. Still going. After people are peeing amen fighting in the street so that’s always nice to hear.

3.3 stars. It was packed for a Sunday (but no wait time). The food was ok – not super delicious, but not bland. It was somewhat fast service – and moderately priced. Nice decor – ok cleanliness. I think it’s best during the colder weather – hot soups during the summer months are generally not advised.
