Reviews
For meats we got the brisket, boneless short rib, and marinated short rib. For sides we got the seafood pancake and seafood soft tofu stew as well as the eggs and cheese corn cooked on our grill. The sides were BIG hits. We must’ve gotten at least 3 refills of the cheese corn alone and another of the egg. Likewise, the meat was very good. If we could rank the meat it would probably be (worst to best) boneless short rib, brisket, marinated short rib. The marinated short rib was easily the best of the three and we wish we didn’t order it as the final meat otherwise we would’ve eaten far, far more of it. Ultimately, Baekjeong is a fun experience elevated by the hands off aspect where you can truly kick back, relax, and eat your food. We would recommend this to people hanging around Valley Fair who are looking to eat some KBBQ and maybe don’t mind the price point it comes in at. This is really a spot for special occasions or nice date nights, less so a casual day, but it is worth every penny as we left happy and very, very full.
The banchan was alright, nothing to write home about. But I definitely recommend eating the meat with wasabi and salt at any BBQ place you go to, it’s a super good combo!
We ordered a small beef combo for our Valentine’s Day celebration. Here’s my review on each food:
Brisket: very delicious and perfectly cooked. I can eat this every day.
Non-marinated short ribs: an excellent meat that’s marbled. Tasted great at the beginning but has a diminishing marginal utility because of its fattiness.
Marinated short ribs: worst of the three. It’s way too sweet for our liking. It completely masked the taste of the meat itself and I couldn’t help but wonder what would it be like had it not been so overly marinated.
Lunchbox: a pleasant surprise. Deliciously mixed Korean rice. However it came out at room temperature. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that, but in any case, I’d like it even more if it’s warm.
Soybean stew: too spicy, didn’t ate much of it.
Last but not least, shoutout to our server and chef Anthony G. Great service and skill.
*also note on the last photo- the window glass was absolutely filthy and gave us the ick when we first sat down.
Food: I went with my girly, and we ordered the combo S Hondae favorite. The portion is enough and with good quality of meats, soup and rice. It was a pity that no lettuce comes with the set as a typical Korean style. The japchae we order on the side is a really huge portion.
Ambiance: chic and clean. Never understand why Korean BBQ restaurants never have a range hood, and finally found one here! Good for all sizes of parties, but definitely not suitable to have quality conversations due to the noise.
First meal, we ordered:
combo small beef with rib eye $103
lychee fresh add ketel $14
moscow mule $16
Had a reservation. Super backed up the day we went so was significantly later. Drink also didn’t have alcohol so we had to send it back.
Service is really slow in general (from the times we’ve been). Staff could be a bit more attentive and proactive.
Meat quality is definitely good here. However, for the value, if I didn’t have the AMEX credit, I’m not sure I would try them out with the wait and service issues.
BUT, with the AMEX credit, if you need a decent meal and don’t mind some wait, this is a good spot!
Overall, 3.5 star experience, but rounding up to 4!
Parking in the garage…obviously could be difficult with Valley Fair.
We’ve had the Hodong’s favorite combo and the small is plenty of food between me and my husband. One of our favorite items to get is the brisket cast iron fried rice. We usually are too full to finish the fried rice but it’s great as leftovers. I would also recommend the beef tartare. It’s one of the few places around here that I think makes it well.
The two servers we’ve had that made our last 2 visits enjoyable were Billy and Phat. They were attentive to the food and cooked the meats well. Phat refilled our rice paper and checked on us if we were slowing down our pace with eating. We once had a server who cleared the meat off the grill and threw it away instead of putting the meat to the side. She was distracted with some other customer but that was still a big turn off during my first visit here.
The price is a little higher for kbbq but I think its worth it for the quality and quantity for the combo sets, and just having someone else cook for you. Just remember to dip your meat in the salt and sauces.
Today was Saturday lunch and we expected a little wait. I made my family wait 1hr (party of 6 at 1130am) because I was craving my favorite seafood pancake. They usually have THE best pancake with a crunchy layer on top. Today that wasn’t the case… it was burnt on top and didn’t have the addicting crunchy layer.
I’m not the type to give back food- it was still edible and times are tough I’m not wasting food.
The meat quality is still 10/10- we always order the beef combo with boneless short ribs and kimchi stew.
Service was good when they were around but a little slow. We got our seafood pancake and Kim chi stew pretty late in the meal.
TLDR: I made my family wait for a seafood pancake that was burnt and didn’t have the best crunchy layer on top. Spent over $300z Only picture I have of my pancake was the left over I took home.
Large restaurant that was able to accommodate our gathering full of kids/babies. Looking forward to come back.
