Backwoodz is now one of RVA’s fastest-growing food trucks and now offers catering all over Virginia. Offerings now include private and public special events such as graduations, corporate, ceremonies, etc, Our Richmond restaurant is located near the intersection of Airport Drive and W. You know, when the locals rave about a spot, it is a winner. A++++++ I stopped by at lunch, on a rainy day. About half full, the service was excellent. The wings are 10. Not pink inside. While I realize that pink inside is a sign of the slow smoking process, my preference is a dark white shade. Just me. Meat separation from bone is excellent. Snappy crisp skin. Brisket is a solid 7. Only because I am picky. I order “fatty cut”. They had a hard time processing my order. I did not get fully fatty cut, but on the other side, I did not get dry brisket. The brisket had a good smoke flavor, excellent bark. I was digging the rub….. Again, I just prefer a fattier cut….. I spoke with the owner, good dude. We talked for about 30 minutes about smoking in the Carolinas and his process. Overall, I will be back. Good job!!!!

Phenomenal BBQ. Hole in the wall vibes with delicious, reasonably priced BBQ and a nice atmosphere. At our lunch one person got the pulled chicken sandwich and two of us split the All Meats combo (we should’ve split it with 3 or 4, plenty of food). The sandwich combo was generous and even the small Mac n cheese side was substantial. Prices were very reasonable, especially the sandwich combo.
All the meats had a delicious smokiness to them. Pulled chicken was the absolute standout with a peppery smoked in flavor that barely needed any sauce. Brisket was look at it and it falls apart tender and had a ton of flavor. Oh my goodness the Mac n cheese y’all. Tons of real cheese. Picked up a bite and got a cheese pull that looked like it was from a commercial. We got some cake slices to go and they look phenomenal.
Atmosphere was great. Friendly staff. A couple of TV’s and some blues in the background. Bathroom was clean and a spacious single occupancy.
We’ll definitely be back to hit up the rest of the menu and some of the great specials like roast turkey legs.

Small little dive, near the airport. The food was absolutely amazing, we had the ribs and the smoked wings. The mac and cheese is definitely worth the upgraded side. Everything was smokey and freshly made. Ribs were juicy and still a little firm, as they should be. Even the green beans were flavorful. They even have a giant jug of Kool-Aid, I haven’t seen that in forever. The guy running the place was very nice and answered all of our questions. I told him it was our first time and he even gave us a discount. Decided to get the apple cobbler cheesecake to go, it was the best cheesecake I have had in a long time. The best $6 spent. Highly recommended.

Mannnnnnn!!! This is what I’m talking about good southern cooking, great hospitality and love. This is an amazing and perfect food spot. From the food, to the customer service, drinks nice and strong (and reasonable!!) and the flavors are unmatched. Brought in my birthday with some good black owned eats! I am so glad I’m a loyal customer now. Menu has such variety to pick and food always hot! Come and support! Get the Jordan special for the drink and Jordan thank you for all the love! Sweet tea, the brisket dinner (2 sides and a roll or cornbread, come on man!). Banana pudding and apple cobbler cheesecake is a a missile! This is easily top 5 in all of Richmond! Do not hesitate.

This is the spot you’re looking for. BBQ was GOOD, portions were great. Order the green beans, just trust me. But yeah, this is definitely going to be one of our usual spots. Everything had so much flavor. The brisket had the perfect mix of fat and char. Green beans were seasoned to perfection. Ribs look like they came out of a dinosaur! Just go ahead and start heading this way lol

Let me start with the positive, Jordan the register attendant was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. Now the negative; This is by far the absolute worst BBQ I’ve ever had in my 40 plus years of adulthood. I got the ribs and brisket dinner combo and when I tell you that it was terrible! It was horrid! It was steamed to the point of seeming boiled, or it was boiled. The ribs were tough even though heavy steamed/boiled. The brisket was extremely overcooked and again STEAMED. For my sides I got beans and Mac n Cheese, the beans taste like they added cinnamon flavored applesauce. The Mac n Cheese was the best thing and it was mid. I try not to tear down establishments but this missed the entire mark. Owners if this not the standard please address the pit master on duty Tuesday October 14, 2025 at 12:37pm.

My first time having smoked chicken and my favorite was the loaded fries with smoke chicken, the brisket was moist, tender and delicious I like that the slices weren’t thick this brisket was 100% better than Mission BBQs brisket. The smoked fried chicken wings was one of their best sellers I put bbq sauce on mine lol I liked them better that way, everything was delicious, the food presentation was on point, the young man that served had a great sense of humor, service was excellent not a long wait on orders overall Backwoodz BBQ definitely deserves a five star rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if you’re in the area stop in to try them for yourself you won’t be disappointed

Everything I ordered(look@the picture) was good except for the macaroni it tastes plastic to me. The atmosphere wasn’t much being that it was just me and my friend in there. The guy who took our order & the “waitresses”(they brought the bbq sauce in cups & silverware) were nice. You can tell it’s a family business which is good. I would eat here again

Small and unassuming storefront hides a massive amount of deliciousness! I got the meat sampler which was huge. Pulled pork, brisket, shredded chicken, beef roast were some of the best I’ve ever had. Ribs were a dry rub smoked and not my favorite. Others got the brisket dinner and pulled pork dinner and were very pleased. House bbq sauce is a new favorite! We all shared sides…all homemade and really good. All of us became instant fans of the baked beans and the cucumber salad. Desserts looked delicious but none of us could eat anymore. Service rivaled the food in excellence. Staff were so welcoming and genuinely glad we were there. This place is a must-add to your dinner out rotation!

Went here for some bbq and wasn’t disappointed the service was good along with the food the atmosphere seemed cool even though we got take out. The only thing I had an issue with is that I ordered the 2 meat platter and the chicken that came with it was chopped chicken don’t get me wrong the chicken was good but I would have preferred whole pieces of chicken. I also had the Brisket which was on point now for the side I had the baked beans and mac & cheese now if you don’t like your baked beans sweet these aren’t the beans for you I like them myself but everyone isn’t into sweet baked beans and as for the Mac & cheese I under we gotta the ends of it because they were about 30mins from closing the when we got there so I don’t fault them for that but the Mac & cheese was good anyway and it worked out for me because I like the crunchy parts.. Now I got a dessert also which was the Apple cobbler cheesecake when I tell you it was hitting it was it wasn’t overly sweet other, there dessert come from a different business I forgot to get their card but they have some good stuff.. Im not from Va but whats up with 4% henrico county meals tax, 5.3% state tax and 3% gratuity on all orders? I would highly recommend this place to eat
