Down right delicious. The buns here for the burgers do not get enough love, damn one of the best burger buns I have had. The bison burger was so moist and flavorful. The combo of jalapeno jam and cream cheese was perfection. The onion straws and fries were so flavorful, but these dipping sauces rocked! Cheese curds were good too. Nice touch with the wine on draft the blend was solid.

The good:
• The tomato soup was delicious.
• The house-cut French fries were perfectly cooked and wonderfully seasoned—it’s rare to find fries this good.
• Very affordable prices.
• A fun and interesting beer and drinks menu.
• My husband loved the Backcountry Burger and felt it came close to Five Guys, which is his favorite.
The not-so-good:
• The Stillwater burger was quite disappointing. The bun was dry and crumbly, and there were no flavorful sauces inside. The patty itself had a mashed-potato-like texture rather than the firm, well-formed patty you typically expect. Given that it’s one of the few vegetarian options, this was especially disappointing.
Overall:
I’d recommend this place, but perhaps not for vegetarians.

We stopped here for lunch and I was keen to try the Bison Burger but the lovely waiter suggested the Curry fries also. What a great lunch. All buns are made in house. Since I quit drinking I noticed the choices are poor but HERE there are three craft beers and kombuchas on the menu for non alcoholic drinks. What a great surprise!!!

The Calamity Jane was one of the best burgers ever! The jalapeño jam had kick without taking away any taste of the burger. The curds and fries are so amazingly good too! Thank you Rachel for the good service!

The bison burger at Backcountry Burger Bar is a genuine Montana masterpiece. It’s a mandatory stop for anyone visiting Bozeman! The patty, sourced from Montana-raised bison, is incredibly lean yet remarkably juicy and packed with a robust, slightly sweet flavor that only high-quality game meat can deliver. They cook it to a perfect medium-rare, ensuring every bite is tender.
The experience is completed by their commitment to local ingredients—the bun, baked fresh daily, is the perfect soft and sturdy vehicle for the flavorful bison. Paired with a side of hand-cut fries and their delicious Backcountry sauce, this burger is a true taste of the Rockies. It’s a culinary highlight that offers great value and a truly authentic regional experience. If you’re looking for the best burger in town, especially a bison one, this is it.

Absolutely incredible. Loved the chill atmosphere and the booths by the front windows. The staff all around was super nice and friendly, very helpful. The food was great. You want a basic burger or a burger that’s unique they have options. The fries were bomb and the drinks too! Definitely recommend

Excellent food. My grass fed burger on a gluten free bun was superb. Also had the Korean style Brussels sprouts – fabulous – just spiced enough! Pleasant staff. Excellent classic rock and roll music that is not too loud. A nice diverse beer list.
