From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. We started with the oysters, Caesar salad, and the house made focaccia, and each dish set the tone for the evening. Everything was thoughtful, beautifully executed, and clearly crafted with care.
For our mains, the half chicken with delicata, parsnip, and apple cider glaze was perfectly cooked and beautifully balanced. It felt comforting yet refined. The short rib with potato pavé, soubise, and potato chip gremolata was outstanding. It was deeply flavorful, beautifully composed, and memorable. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which was the perfect ending to a remarkable meal.
Corrina’s service elevated the entire experience. Her infectious energy, warm smile, deep knowledge of the menu and wine, and authentic engagement made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. She strikes that rare balance of professionalism and genuine hospitality.
The food was excellent. The service was exceptional. The overall experience was one we will not soon forget.
We will absolutely be returning as often as we are able.
We had our wedding reception here last September, and the incredible folks at Back River Bistro curated an intimate dining experience for our closest friends and family. The food, service, wine, and ambiance were out of this world. Truly a must-visit destination if you’re coming to Maine.
We spent about two months working with the team at BRB to build a menu and evening that told a story, challenged our tastebuds, and celebrated our marriage. The Back River Bistro team is filled with respectful, hardworking, and unbelievably talented artisans that made our special day one to remember for a lifetime.
A singular experience. Thank YOU!
I have to say the food tastes delicious and I would go back!
My favorites:
The oysters and the duck !!
I tried also dessert but I felt it was too much sweet for me. However, flavors and combination of ingredients are delicious.
Parking is limited, outside seating and small intimate dining inside.
This little bistro is for the folk who want that intimate, quiet and lovely dinner out. The atmosphere was just that! What a well put together bistro with lovely wait staff and menu.
My husband and I dined here last night for our anniversary, Cassidy was our waitress. She was helpful with describing drinks, to which was very accurate, all the way to making friendly conversation. We felt very at ease and comfortable here that we will most definitely be coming back!
I ordered the calamari, focaccia bread, duck and strawberry cobbler; this was followed by a white wine I was not familiar with but was tasty. The calamari was eatable, zero rubber texture like I’ve had the unfortunate experience of. It had red tomato sauce and herbs that accompanied it – very nice to start with. The focaccia bread was divine!! The duck was good but not the greatest. I have never eaten duck cooked that way before so maybe it was just me – I have always had it seared with smokey flavors. I am not sure how they cooked.
The cobbler was sooo scrumptious… I felt like it was a slice of heaven!
My husband ordered the mushroom toast, marinated cucumber, braised beef and chocolate truffles followed by a whiskey sour. He said everything was top notch!
He says the whiskey sour (actually made properly) and focaccia bread alone are worth coming for for a simple drink night and light finger food. He said his entire experience was amazing and even more because it was our anniversary.
I highly recommend coming here for a great night out!!!
