If you’re hungry for some good barbecue and you are in the area stop by this place. The catfish was good. I loved the decor in the restaurant. I was like a mini museum. The help was very polite and attentive to all my needs The bathrooms were clean. Another awesome point is there located right off the freeway no need to drive through town to try to find them.

Food & service was good, for my taste buds could had used a bit more seasoning. We purchased the family meal & was more than enought food (2 adults & 1 preteen). The corn bread and banana nut bread were amazing!

Service Excellent. Ribs Excellent. Not dry or tough, easy off bone, moist and BBQ sauce really good with nice subtle spice tang. Broccoli and Mac and Cheese, literally best I’ve ever had in a BBQ place, which really surprised me. We are talking perfectly cooked, and in case of Mac, not clumpy, claggy or overly anything. Tri tip, I prefer slightly rare, but also very good. Cornbread very good, great with honey butter which was just right temp for spreading easily. Lastly, price is right. BBQ has gotten pricey but this was a totally fair price and not expensive given above quality IMO. Not only was this place a pleasant surprise, since coming here was an impulses on way home, but it also inspired me to write this review because I’m so impressed and I hope more people find it so it stays.

Sadly this place is no longer the same AMAZING BBQ. Ownership changed. The service was wonderful and new owners are very friendly and attentive. So I hate leaving this review. But had I known this ahead of time we would not have made a special Father’s Day trip up to Shingle Springs. First clue: the parking lot was empty and only four other patrons in the restaurant. We ordered our usual and boy were we shocked. The ribs appeared to be like a store bought package as well as the pulled pork on the sandwich (seemed like it was pre packaged and not homemade) I could be wrong. But that’s our opinion. The cornbread was bland, definitely not back 40’s recipe. The chicken on the rib platter was the best thing according to my husband. The meat brisket was dry and flavorless, The Mac and cheese was dried out and cold ( it went untouched). The French fries were no longer the house cut fries but Ore Ida crinkle cut (most of those were left on the plate). The potato wedges had no flavor and the onion rings had no sign of an onion. I think the family agreed that we should have ordered the fried chicken, potstickers and fried rice instead. Strange to have that on the “Specials Menu” at a BBQ restaurant. Maybe they can change it to an Asian Infused BBQ! That would be worth checking out. See attached pictures for you to be the judge.

I should have known by the name “burnt ends” that the meat would be a bit dry and it was. Chunks of BBQ brisket on a french roll served with pickles, red onions and lettuce on the plate with a small cup of their original BBQ sauce. For my “Fixin” I selected the Texas Country Fries which were pretty good. Fixin’ options were: Potato Salad, BBQ Beans, Fresh Vegetable, Green Salad, Cole Slaw, Homemade Soup, Gram’s Chili, Texas Country Fries or Mac & Cheese. I asked for some hot BBQ sauce to dip the fries into and also for use on the sandwich. I thought it odd that there weren’t squeeze bottles of sauce on the table, or brought with the meal, like so many other BBQ joints. You’ll definitely want additional sauce! Server was friendly and efficient. Sandwich without beverage was $15.28 including tax. I had several glasses of water and not long after leaving I was thirsty again, salty food no doubt. I probably won’t be back to Back Forty.

This is a great spot to stop by before you hit the casino! Skip the casino traffic and wait times, this cozy spot brings the flavor big time and the staff are so friendly! The brisket was so good, and the chili and Mac and cheese were great additions to our meal. Worth the money, will certainly visit again!

Let me start with the good, the lady was nice service was good.

The food on the other hand was absolutely terrible. We got the brisket and chicken both were dry and when I say dry I mean it was tough to cut into them and the chicken was rubbery. I felt like we had to chew forever and have our drinks ready with each bite.
We went here yrs. ago and it was great not sure what changed but unfortunately we won’t be going back.
