Nasty disgusting food. The collard greens taste so bad like they drowned it in liquid smoke, sugar and vinegar to mask the Glory greens taste. They were inedible. Now the ribs no smoke ring and they were clearly baked then thrown on a grill drenched in lighter fluid to have a grill line. The brisket was so fatty no flavor, no smoke ring and the guy drowned the meat in bbq sauce to hide the abomination. The yams were total crap, they were just boiled not candied at all. The Mac and cheese were bland. The fish was trash the breading was complete garbage. No flavor. The only plus is they give a lot of food. Which ended up in the trash.

Im Giving it a three because I like the owner and the customer service. It has good potential but the ribs should be the main attraction. And they aren’t tasty enough. Very under seasoned. A simple fix in my opinion. Ramp up the taste and we will have a winner.

1st time here. Inside was messy and dirty. Bug spray was visible near the cash register. I asked for bottled water or iced tea, nope just soda. Mac and cheese tasted like it was from a box. The brisket was pretty good. The barbecue sauce was delicious! Best part of the whole meal. Large side of French fries tasted frozen. I had high expectations for this local joint but it just wasn’t there.

I visited the restaurant on 2/14. My husband and I ordered the fish & grits and fish platter. When we got home and opened the container they put the fried fish on the grips causing it the get very soft and wet. And the other fish platter they put the potato salad with the hot food causing the salad to become soggy. I called the restaurant and was basically brushed off. I’m very disappointed and will not be ordering again.

Got the brisket, and smoked sausage $35 platter with collard greens and potato salad.
I have a LIST of complaints.
1. The portions were horribly small for $35. I have pictures.
2. The potato salad was too watery and tangy. Also, way too small for a side.
3. The collard greens were pretty dry, and flavorless.
4. The brisket was old, and tougher than it should have been. It was also all brown. No pinkish tenderness inside at all. I was also served just 2 pieces (again, $35). The saving grace was the barbecue sauce served on the side, but even that was quite watery.
5. The smoked sausage wasn’t bad, but they gave ONE LINK!!!!! This is a double PLATTER!!! What were they THINKING??
Won’t be going back. I was really looking forward to trying them, but I should have known the quality would be bad when she described how their “gumbo” was made.
Very disgraceful considering there are better BBQ spots nearby that charge less money.

1st all I wanna say that based on the other reviews that were positive on here, I hope I just came on a bad day. I knew the food wasn’t gonna be good when my 9 year old stopped my conversation outside of our house to come back to tell me that the food didn’t taste good at all. Immediately, I came inside, I started tasting a little bit of everything because we had the family meal. It was all disgusting. When I say disgusting, I Mean it to every syllable. We got the ribs, The smoked chicken and the pulled pork. Along with Mac n Cheese, Greens and potato salad.
– Each bite of each portion got worse and worse.
Hoping that one of these items would justify our experience at least. The pulled pork did kinda.
– I spent close to $80 in total.Everything was so bad. That I left my home, At night, after being settled after a long day, drove to a dumpster. And left it there inside of the dumpster. Immediately upon returning home, I got physically sick. And spent the rest of my night. In the bathroom.
-oh the ribs tatsetd like nothing. No seasoning just liquid smoke. They were also so under cooked. No one else felt safe eating them
To the lady on Tiktok who recommended this place and did the video. No one should ever trust your judgment again. Count your days.

It was our first time trying this place. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. We received so much food for the price. The brisket fell apart! Everything had a great flavor. Their homemade bbq sauce definitely added another level of flavor. We tried almost everything they offered on the menu lol. We will definitely be back! Dont forget to try the homemade iced tea!

I’m ONLY giving 2 stars because the first time I ordered from Back Alley, the bbq was AMAZING. The food was so good, that I immediately recommended many friends in the south Jersey area. Last night I placed an order, and the food was extremely inedible. First, they missed an entire 2 platters, 4 sides and sent me green beans and baked beans that tasted like they were straight out of a can. Seriously, the $.36 pork n beans in the can would’ve been better than those. Mac n cheese tasted worse than the cheap box. Chicken was NOT seasoned at ALL. Ribs were mostly insipid bone, and pulled pork was dried out on soggy cheap white bread. On top of that, the bbq sauce on the side was watered down! I can’t rate the other items as they were missing from my $60+ order.
My dog now has food for a few days because I simply couldn’t throw it all away.
I do NOT recommend.

The beef brisket and that sauce was absolutely delicious!! Ordered a Combo Platter with 2 meats: double portion of beef brisket, and 2 sides: mac ‘n’ cheese and collard greens. The sides were satisfactory but not great. It certainly was a lot of food for $25!! This platter fed 3 people. Oh and their chocolate cake and pound cakes were absolutely delicious too!!
