This one was tough to rate. I originally rated it a 3/5 but changed it to a 4/5 upon further thought, I would give it a 3.5 if I was able too but Google does not allow half stars so I decided to give a small business the benefit of the doubt. On one hand the fee was very reasonable and the library of games extensive. It was a nice little shop. On the other hand I wasn’t thrilled with the service overall. Various arbitrary fees for things like outside food when we had allergies to the food they sold, the refusal of the staff to make change for us so we could pay the parking meter outside. They also had advertisements for controversial political candidates in their bathroom. In short I was impressed with the affordability and variety but was not thrilled with the staff nor service. Would I go back? I wouldn’t go out of my way to do so but would be willing to try it again to see if this was just a bad day for the staff.

Just go already you nerd It’s ten bucks yes they even have that game, they have 400+. Yes You can have your 4-Hour campaign with the other 10 people. Let your nerd flag fly. It’s not a sausage fest. Everybody’s welcome everybody’s kind because they’re not paying attention to you they’re paying attention to the people playing their game. If you got smart kids go visit. If you need a place for a date go visit. Jen the owner is awesome she’s knowledgeable and kind and will answer your questions or leave you alone it’s up to you. The cookies are good. The sodas are interesting and varied. The rest of food is kind of meh but good enough buy something anyway because at $10 a person shes doing us a huge favor It’s would be a value at $20. Just go already so you can come back. I love 45 minutes away and it’s absolutely worth the drive.

My wife and I made it a point to stop in during our long weekend getaway for our anniversary after seeing videos of the cafe online. I was impressed with the amount of tables that were available along with the amount of options available in terms of snacks and drinks, not to mention the nearly 1,000 board games available. I am not exaggerating about the amount of board games available.
We were there for a board game demo and as the afternoon went on, the place became more and more busy. It genuinely seemed full of joy with families playing together, friend groups enjoying several different games, and parents playing games while their kids were at an adjacent table enjoying their own choices of game.
At 4pm, a large group came in for what I believe is the weekly Blood on the Clocktower game. The group was large enough and had enough newcomers where they split the game into two smaller groups to accommodate the newer players. We did not partake in the game, but it was a great thing to see. They have an event calendar on their website, Facebook page, and Discord server. It appears that they have quite the variety of offerings for people to partake in.
The baked goods and beverages we had were quite good. My wife has the lemonade and I had an iced apple cider. We also tried a s’mores fried dough, peanut butter cookies, and oatmeal raisin cookies.
The staff was very friendly and made an honest effort to remember your name.
We live about 100 minutes from the cafe, but left wanting to come back. We’re hoping that we can make time to take the trek down once every month or so, but with our crazy schedules, we know that will be difficult.
If you find yourself in the area, I recommend you stop in and try out some games.

I didn’t take any pictures of our group, but my boyfriend and I were invited to a board game night the night prior to our friends’ wedding. This was THE best place they could have chosen to have us all together! It was the first time I’d met any of them, and for him, it was a place to meet new friends he’d gamed online with for years (and even reconnected with some after several years). This small business offers a wide variety of drinks, snacks, and they were so patient when taking my drink orders. Their recommendations were spot on to what I was looking for. There are many tables available in the area, and they were able to accommodate our large, rowdy group. This is such a neat space. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a game night or to try something different. I’m not a board gamer by any means, but even I was hooked on a 4-hour board game session by playing many fun games. A side note: there is a note in the bathroom above the sink where a mirror would be that reads, “You look great today!” You never know how much something so small can mean to someone, especially when you’re meeting a group of new people for the first time. It made my night. Thank you for the top-notch experience!

This is a wonderful place to spend an evening, make some new friends and play board games. They have a huge selection of board games and a diverse schedule for all other games like TRPGs, Poker, Cribbage and so on. If you’re a solo player and don’t have a group yet, you can easily find it via their Discord channel. Plus you can track there any events you may be interested in. The events can be either drop-in or requiring a sign-up.
Board Game clubs are as good as their community. And the community here is great and welcoming to newcomers. Owners – Jen and Chris – are onsite, and they are always ready to help. There is a good selection of snacks and a coffee/tea bar with tasty options. The menu always expands and tailors to the taste of the crowd.
I really recommend checking this place out if youre into tabletop gaming of any kind.

Went back in December 2024 — absolutely phenomenal cafe! It’s so unique and the owners are extraordinarily kind!
My friend and I didn’t play games because we were meeting there for tea. You do not need to play games to sit and enjoy the cafe. However, they do give table priority to those who pay to play games, and will kindly ask you to move if there are no available tables for players that just came in.
It’s $10 per person to play board games for the whole day! They have many bookshelves filled with various board games to choose from that are meant for everyone.
Additionally, (please, correct me if I am wrong. It’s been a while since my visit!) I think they have Dungeon and Dragon nights, or something similar.
I’m not celiac, however I am gluten-free. Gluten cross contamination doesn’t affect me. The reason I mention this is because they have delicious gluten-free brownie. When I ordered the brownie, the staff kindly informed me it is not celiac friendly. Which is totally okay! But, i hope my input helps anyone who is celiac or cannot have cross contamination 🙂
Long story short: this cafe is a rare gem in Connecticut. If you come to visit, or if you are a local, you must go to Back Again Board Game Cafe! You won’t regret it!

Great board game cafe to try out a bunch of games. Very popular place on the weekends, but still enough tables to get your own.

Great boardgame cafe. A large variety of boardgames are available and the staff is excellent at recommendations depending on what you’re looking for. When not too busy the staff can help with set up and quick start of games. There is a good variety of drinks and snacks available. $10 fee per person for the day to play boardgames or use the space for game activities like D&D, Magic, or other TTRPGs. You can leave to get food or run errands and return. Tables are first come, first serve. Quiet but easy to talk and enjoy. An excellent space.

Back Again was such a cute board game cafe. It is so cozy and inviting making you feel like you can sit and play for hours. The cost of a “play pass” is ten dollars to play for the day (you can leave and come back) they have lots of snack options from pastries to chips/popcorn but you can also bring in your own food. The coffee was delicious (I had a dirty chai) and they use locally roasted Perkatory Beans. We will definitely return to try more of their 900+ board games!!
