At our restaurant, we bring the authentic flavors of the bay straight to your table. We work with fresh, locally sourced seafood, carefully processed in our own artisanal facility. Since both the restaurant and the factory share the same owner, we ensure full control over quality, allowing us to serve unique dishes where freshness and the true taste of the sea take center stage. A dining experience that honors tradition and celebrates the finest local ingredients.

From walking in the door to right before my first bite, this already set out to be one of my favorite spots in iceland. Want to eat on a Viking ship? Grab a spot outside (though it’s currently 3°C so I avoided that). Want to know exactly where your fish and chips came from? Ask the fisherman next door. Want the southern charm of a couple of expats on a solo trip, while still taking in everything Iceland has to offer? This is your stop.
I said up to the first bite. Well let me tell you, that bite solidified it. I got the salted fish and chips – 6 months salted fish (they salt it next door!), rehydrated and deep fried. Think all the other reviews are lying about the “best fries”? from their crispy texture to the well balanced seasoning, I was shocked that this town of 120 people could produce such a treat.
This entire day was a spontaneous treat, and I am so thankful I listened to the sign! Thank you Dominique for making this day one for the books!
Atthe restaurant we eat the best french fries at Iceland.
Meet great and friendly people there, helpful and customer oriented.
Love the place.
After finishing a two-hour morning whale-watching cruise in Hauganes, we were directed to a food truck or Baccalá Bar for lunch. My starving inner child spotted the Viking longboat parked on the front lawn of Baccalá, and the decision was made for me. A Viking longboat as outdoor seating? COME ON!! This would have been my favorite restaurant as a kid. As fate would have it, the food was perfect for adult me. They have a fairly compact menu, and the three of us ordered the Famous Fish Soup, F&Cs and the Baccalá Cod Pizza. (The fish comes off a dock about 100 feet away from the restaurant and then to a fish packing house about 50 feet away.) Everything we ate was top notch, and I finished off with the homemade ice cream. Aside from the dining room, they have a full-service bar that highlights homemade and local beers. As we were talking to our waitress, Dominique, I detected a little twang in her accent, and then we got the backstory. She and her husband, Doug, are from Tennessee. They packed up, moved to Iceland and bought Baccalá last year. Doug allowed me back into the kitchen and introduced me to their chef, Matt, who has worked his way through a few European kitchens (including a Michelin-starred shop). To be sure, I would have rated their food alone a very high 4.8, but their personal hospitality, the casual and funky atmosphere of the restaurant, and the kitschy longboat earn Baccalá a perfect High Five from me. 5/5
Great service and food!
Fish and chips are the best we’ve had so far in Iceland. They catch it at the port, have it processed next door and make their own batter. It’s *chef’s kiss* DO NOT sleep on this!
Also had their pizza which had excellent cheese, a crispy thin delicious crust- just the way a pizza should be.
They have a pastry chef who has studied around the world. She picked some local blueberries and made a cake the day before -which we were SO lucky to try! Seems like they have a rotating mix of desserts- which I would be happy to try out every time.
Total bill:
Fish and chips
Margarita pizza (half with added mushrooms)
Side of seasonal vegetables
Blueberry cake
Cup of coffee
$100USD
The cheapest (also most delicious) meal we’ve had in Iceland the past 6 days
The owner was also really friendly, which made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back on my next trip to Iceland!
Thank you for your hospitality Dominique ❤️
This was the best meal I’ve had in Iceland thus far
