Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Roanoke is still amazing and one of Texas’ best fried chicken destinations! I can’t resist the temptation to stop in when I hear it calling my name! I have eaten there every Texas trip and I will eat there again next time around.

The sides: mashed potatoes, sweet corn, gravy, salad, and biscuits can’t be beat.

The only drawback is; I tend to overeat when there, but then I challenge you to stop when you’re just feeling the initial satisfaction!

From top to bottom everything about this is perfect. I’ve been coming to this location specifically for several years and cannot recommend enough. Fast well timed yet polite service, free salad, biscuits, mashed potatoes, corn, and gravy. And perhaps the most simple while still perfect menu I’ve ever ordered from. You will never be disappointed with the quality of food just get the standard fried chicken and enjoy the ride.

Eric, the manager is FANTASTIC! Thank you, Eric! I called Babe’s in Roanoke the week of Valentine’s to see if they could accommodate a group of 19 on February 14th. They do not take reservations but did everything they could do to help. Not only did my friend have a fabulous 47th birthday surrounded by his friends, every single member of the staff that encountered us was excellent and high caliber! I gave the compliment to Eric and he said, “I am blessed with them.” I strongly recommend having a meal here!

One of the best fried chickens I have ever had! The 4-piece meal is huge and comes with salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, and corn (refillable!). Honestly, it’s a lot of food even for 2 people. The price is surprisingly reasonable, which gives us every reason to come back here again and again to support this business.

The staff are super friendly. They started to dance and sing at some point, which makes the dining experience unique and fun!

And yes, this restaurant is very family-friendly. Parking (free) is also easy to find, even on Saturday night.

One thing I wish they had was to-go boxes. For some reason, they only offer plastic bags, and there was no to-go box available. With the huge portion they serve, I would imagine a lot of people would ask for to-go boxes.

I have been ta two Babes locations but was encouraged to visit this, the original, location. It is nestled in the heart of Roanoke and is surrounded by several other restaurants on the ‘main’ street leading directly to City Hall. It is a quaint yet growing area.

The decor is pretty cool and reminiscent of an open country barn with exposed rafters and all. In fact the space above houses quite a bit of history as it is used to commemorate employees with long tenures. At the five year mark, you get a placard with your name and years of service. They are placed on rafters facing the door. The rafter spaces with names facing away from the door are for employees with more than ten years of service. It’s pretty cool and our server Michelle had her own mentioning five years, and she is even a year past that now. It’s really nice to see a place that people want to work and stay, and where owners recognize the loyalty. The walls have playful sketches and the support posts are covered with old time intersection direction signs.

The menu here is simple: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Other locations have expanded their menu somewhat but here it is straight up simple. It is worth mentioning they do not even do the green beans here. No worries!

We ordered both. The chicken fried steak was pretty good. The fried chicken batch I got seemed a little dry, especially the white meat. I hope this was just a slight over cook and won’t stop me from returning. The intro salad was ultra simple and appropriate so as to not overstuff you. The mashed potatoes were excellent and corn was just fine (plain coated with butter). We even went in for one refill of the mash!

The service was great, Michelle was wonderful and informative, and everyone we encountered was extremely friendly.

I do make it a point to notice bathrooms if I end up using it, and this place is on the high end of clean, giving you a positive feeling about the kitchen.

Overall I’m glad I came to this location to see it, and enjoyed the dinner. I will continue to frequent their locations when given the chance.

I love Babe’s food! But I don’t eat there often because they’re a bit pricey. Everytime I go, the price has increased. This time, they served one biscuit, my chicken fried steak was paper thin, and the price went up to 19.99! This makes me so sad! To be fair though, eating out is expensive everywhere. It’s just hard to pay $20 for a chicken meal. My go to steak dinner is $16.99, or $13.99 for lunch.

Not a typical full service restaurant. All Meals here are served Family style. Featuring fried chicken, chicken fried steak and buttermilk biscuits. The delicious comfort food menu is one of our family favorites. We have been coming here for birthdays and family celebrations for well over a decade. Highly recommended.

This place rocks. The food is always first class chicken and cfsteak. The sides are delicious! The employees were friendly and accomidating. Got us in out of the cold night air. Food was great & atmosphere very festive. A family favorite esp when we have out of towners visiting.

Babes my favorite restaurant. We frequent the Frisco and Carrollton locations. Today we ended up in Fort Worth, and after seeing a Babes billboard, we decided to take a detour into Roanoke.

We got there at 7:30pm on a Thursday. The waiter instantly came to our table and asked us what we wanted to eat and drink. It seemed like he was just ready for us to leave the whole time and rushed out whole experience.

We got the salad and bread and then no more than 5 minutes later he brought out our meal. Nothing was “hot” , just warm. The fried chicken was soggy. Tasted like it had been under a warmer for hours. The smoked chicken was the smallest portion size we had ever seen from Babes and was dry, again tasting like it was under a warmer for hours.

And worst part… no green beans! We thought the server just missed them but when we asked he told us this location doesn’t serve them! I have never not had green beans at a Babes. Not to mention, the price should NOT be the same as the other locations when it does not serve what the others do.

Wish we would have known before we wasted our money
