This was my first time having Yemeni food and it will not be the last. The staff was reluctant to let me have a large table as I was eating alone but they relented when I told them I would order enough food for a full table. The appetizers I got were as follows: Labnah – which was was delightful. I never would have thought yougurt and bread paired together so well. I ate the pita bread on its own it was so good. I was not surprised by how good the Tanoor bread was later but we’ll circle back to that. Whatever oil and spices they put in the yougurt were delightful, 8/10. Hummus with Shredded Lamb – I would get this as a main dish. The lamb was very flavorful and the hummus complimented it well. It was so good with the pita bread also, 9/10. Foul Al‑Shams – I was personally not a fan of these flavors, I prefer my tomatoes on pizza, 6/10. Veggie Samboosa – they were hot, crispy, and packed full of veggies, 7.75/10. Falafel – I was not impressed. I’ve had much better falafel, 5/10. Main dishes I got were as follows: Lamb Haneeth – I might have lamb more often now. It was very good. The lamb was so tender the bone effortlessly slid out of the meat. It was so tender and juicy. The rice was okay nothing special. Mathbi Chicken (Grilled) – Again the chicken slid out of the meat very easily and I love the spices they used. Again the rice was okay. The Tanoor bread was 10/10. Honestly might be the best tasting bread I’ve ever had. I refused to dip/spread anything on the bread, it was perfect as is. IT was so good I had to get a second helping, (pictured.) If you come here you MUST get this item. Drinks: Adani tea – a nice slighly bitter tea, 7.25/10 and Yemeni Cocktail – a delicious mango dessert drink, taste kind like a mango milkshake and I am here for it, 9.5/10. Dessert: Arykah Fattah – was odd to me. It tasted good when the cold cheese mixed with the hot bread mixture but the hot bread mixture by itself didn’t have enough sweet flavor to me. Walnut Baklawa – was a 10/10. It was perfectly hot, crispy, and extra sweet, but not so much so to be sickening. Marouane was my server, he did a fine job and attended all my needs in a timely manner. He also gave me a free second Adani tea at the end and luckily, he speaks English. Side note: they have no physical menus so be prepared to whip your phone out to make your order. I loved atmosphere inside the restaurant; the ambient music fit the style of the place well. The food was reasonably priced also. I would go back.

Bab Al-Yemen in Boston is a gem. My husband took me there for my birthday dinner, and we loved it so much that we went back again with family and friends. We tried the chicken mandi, mathbi chicken, falafel over rice, chicken and veggie stews, and finished with the dessert Fattah Tamr—everything was flavorful and delicious. I especially loved the traditional floor seating, which made the experience feel warm and authentic. Highly recommend!

This was our first time trying this restaurant. A student at Boston University recommended to us and I’m so glad we gave it a try! We asked our server for recommendations and each item was delicious! The atmosphere is a great escape and felt we were transported to Yemen. The staff was very helpful and we will definitely be back!

My dad and I came here for an early afternoon lunch. We enjoyed the Yemeni Cocktail with a delicious sweet accompaniment to our meal. We started with the Mutabal with pita and Veggie Samboosa. For our main dish we enjoy the Lamb Haneeth. I recommend getting a side of Marak and Sahawek to have along side any started or entree. All delicious and flavorful. Our darling waitress offered us both Mint and Adani tea to finish off our meals. We really enjoyed our time here and would come again.

Generally I think this place has been overhyped. We got their lamb hummus, fahsa, and maasoob. Food is slightly under seasoned compared to Yemeni dishes I’ve had; and I expected the maasoob to be more aromatic. The flat bread is good and the hummus is creamy and balanced. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is well maintained.

Overall over hyped.
The hummus & chicken was a disappointment. Super liquidy hummus. The pita was nice and soft.
The beef sambosa was good but seemed like it came from a processed packaged food – not as fresh.
The chicken on spicy rice was very nice, well cooked and would eat that for sure.
Overall it was super over hyped as a place and does not deserve the high Google rating.
High expectations but was let down.

My friend and I ordered the foul al‑shams appetizer, chicken and vegetable stew, and lamb stew to share. The food was delicious and the portions were large enough to take some to go. We also enjoyed the Yemeni cocktail and mango smoothie. The restaurant is unique and has floor seating which we didn’t partake in, but it was a fun atmosphere. What really made the experience great was the friendly staff. One of them, Hana, was very kind and had a great conversation with me about my recent trip to Morocco as she is from there, and her kindness made my night. Overall I recommend this restaurant for the good food and the friendly people!

Food is very tasty, and it’s nice that they have authentic cushions on the floor. I would say the lights could be dimmed a bit, which would be nice and I wish they had wine!

We sat in the cushioned floor seating area which was so cozy and comfortable. Portions were pretty large so they were perfect for sharing and the food was delicious! I don’t have a lot of experience with Yemeni cuisine, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and overall experience! I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to widen their cultural palette.

Excellent food, every dish we ate was really good. The chicken with spicy rice was cooked so tender it would slide off the bone. Even the lamb stew and bread were really good. Strongly recommend trying this place out.
