stopped by for lunch & was sat in their lovely outdoor space – we ordered some items off their lunch menu & most of the happy hour items.
everything was fresh, but nothing was too stand out.
yellowtail crudo was a big tough (in texture), miso soup was watered down, and shisito peppers were large but soggy.
overall, a fun environment but fell short with the foods.

Great atmosphere and a lovely dining experience. We visited during the holiday season, very relaxed.

We ordered from the lunch menu: grilled salmon, calamari, and teriyaki chicken don. Every dish was delicious.

Honestly, I wish we had discovered this place sooner. The grilled salmon is now officially one of my favorite dishes.

This is my new favorite sushi spot. Right in the heart of River Oaks District Shopping Center. I came for their happy hour which is 3-6p weekdays. Totally worth it. I tried the miso soup, spicy edamame, avocado roll & vegan maki roll. I like the bar set up, very warm lighting and intimate but ample room for seating. It wasn’t too busy around 5p but it was a Monday. Highly suggest coming here for a cute first date or very special occasion like birthday or anniversary. I would say it’s more for the adult grown and older crowd but if you want to bring your family, they will definitely take care of you.

Mmmm I would not come back again. Food was so so, service wasn’t good. Atmosphere was nice. We ordered the chirasidon, oysters and the Bento box. Here’s why this restaurant only deserves 3 stars:
1. We were sitted promptly but our order was not taken promptly. Others who came after us had their orders taken and food served prior to us.
2. Food fell short of expectations- chirashidon fish was so so, miso soup is too salty and tastes like the ones you can make from buying miso paste from the asian grocery stores. Oysters are small and forgettable. Bento box items are very standard – none of the dishes screamed “come back next time to eat more of me!”
3. Server was not attentive to refill water.
4. Please note that there is a facility fee of 3% for i do not know what. The bathroom?

For this type of restaurant in this location (elevated), I honestly expect a lot more. Instead the food and service is equivalent to a normal standard Japanese restaurant. So, yes goodbye. I will not be back and will not recommend this to our friends.

Great atmosphere and the flavors are solid, but don’t expect a traditional Japanese experience. The selection is fairly limited, leaning heavily toward cooked American-style rolls rather than authentic sushi. It’s a fun spot if you’re craving fusion, but a heads-up to the management: the website menu is outdated. The prices in-house are higher than what’s listed online, which was a bit of a disappointing surprise.

This place was nothing short of outstanding. I met a friend for happy hour on a Wednesday and the vibes were perfect; dim lights, nice music, chill and cozy. The service was phenomenal, the drinks were superb, and the food… AMAZING! Do yourself a favor and order the tuna sticky rice. I look forward to returning sooner than later! Thanks for a wonderful evening!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (If I could give 10 stars, I would)

Azumi is exceptional, but context matters, so let me level set. I went on New Year’s Day, alone for a solo date with a very intentional plan. I called ahead to confirm they had fresh uni, which is rare in Houston and even rarer when it’s executed correctly. Uni has a narrow window of perfection, and Azumi nailed it.

I wasn’t trying to overeat. I had a small pre-meal at home and came in specifically for flavor, pacing, and precision. I ordered the Santa Barbara uni, toro tartare, house salad, and the strawberry namelaka, along with Earl Grey tea.

My server, Tina, was outstanding. Gentle, attentive, and deeply thoughtful about pacing. She coursed everything perfectly. The uni and house salad hit first, and that combination alone was transcendent. Bright acidity followed by pure ocean freshness. The uni tasted like the sea in the best possible way, clean, briny, luxurious. When uni turns, it’s unforgiving. This was flawless.

The music and vibe was very chic but upbeat. The blends seemed thoughtful- definitely a place for celebrations

The toro tartare, accented with caviar and uni, was beautifully balanced and indulgent without being heavy. Everything tasted pristine. Freshness was the through-line of the entire meal.

Midway through the experience, the manager, Taufik , came by to personally check in on my meal. He was warm, professional, and genuinely engaged. He asked thoughtful questions, ensured everything was to my satisfaction, and even left me his card. That level of care matters. Quite frankly, it redeemed the Atlas restaurant group in my mind, as my experience at Loch Bar was underwhelming. Taurus was gracious, unpretentious, and very classy.

A note on expectations. Azumi operates at a level comparable to places like Nobu. Their original location is tied to the Four Seasons in Baltimore. This is refined Japanese dining. Portions are smaller, quality is premium, and pricing reflects that. If you come in starving and expecting to “do damage,” you may leave frustrated. This is not that experience. This is about intention, restraint, and savoring.

Dessert was a standout. The strawberry namelaka was silky and elegant, somewhere between panna cotta, strawberry shortcake, and cheesecake. Absolutely delicious.

I don’t drink alcohol, so I can’t speak to the cocktail program, but the tea service was lovely.

I truly don’t understand the lower reviews, except that many people may not be calibrating their expectations. If you prepare yourself for what Azumi is offering, it’s extraordinary. This is hands down the best uni I’ve had in Houston.

I will absolutely be back.

10 out of 10.

If you’re looking for a nice spot for a date at a Japanese restaurant, Azumi is definitely worth considering. The atmosphere is spacious, clean, and comfortable, making it perfect for a relaxed meal.

The food is fresh and well-prepared, and the service is warm and attentive. One dish that really stood out to me was the Flaming King Crab Roll – not only beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious. I highly recommend giving it a try if you visit.

Absolutely loved this place! The servers were kind, attentive, and funny. Not pictured: a SMACKING (delicious) miso soup appetizer, literally CLEANED the bowl. I appreciated that the multiple restrooms were separate, with their own sink and mirror.

Everything started great, sushi was super fresh and the chef was really nice, he even came out to serve us personally. My boyfriend and I waited a bit long to get attention at first, but I didn’t mind since it was Veterans Day and maybe a bit busy.
I actually chose Azumi because of their Veterans Day offer, wanted my boyfriend to enjoy his day. Everything was perfect until the check came..they automatically added 20% gratuity even though it was just the two of us. When I asked, the server said it’s required because it’s Veterans Day (which made no sense). I asked her to show me where it says that, and then a different lady came back with a new check without the gratuity.
As someone who’s been a server for 8 years, I always tip at least 20% for good service, and we did. But being told it’s “required” just felt dishonest. If you’re giving 50% off for Veterans Day, don’t add surprise fees or try to mislead people. The food and chef were great, but that part really ruined the experience.
Don’t screw people over.. they might be okay paying it once, but they’ll never return.
