The tuna ceviche was fresh with a kick from the jalapeño! We loved the bread pudding also! Plate presentation was a solid A for effort also! Great first impression and have no doubt that Azucar will do well in our community!
Edit: So this is our second visit and everything was excellent again. I’m sooo happy this place is here. I’ve missed really good Cuban food for way too long. BTW, try the Tamale, you can thank me later.
First, the most important thing to me. Service was very good. Waitstaff were attentive, and checked on us often enough. I would have wished water would have been brought to the table, but we did not think to ask.
Being vegan, there were not a lot of options. We had the guacamole (excellent) with plantain chips to start. For mains, my wife got a vegetable sandwich without cheese (may have had mayo on it?), which was tasty. I had the vegetable skewers, with white rice/black beans. They were good, but not on the same level with the sandwich. The skewers were rather skimpy as well. Our friend had the skewers with chicken, which was a much bigger portion. For drinks, we had mojitos (spicy mango for me). I also had a spicy margarita, which was a little too spicy. Not fond of the dollar upcharge for making my drinks spicy.
The newly opened Azucar Cuban Restaurant is a wonderful addition to the dining scene in Seymour, Indiana. If you’ve never tried Cuban food, don’t let that stop you—this place is truly exceptional.
We lived in Miami for a couple of years and have been searching ever since for authentic Cuban food. Nothing has come close until we discovered Azucar. The flavors, preparation, and overall experience are spot-on.
We ordered the Ropa Vieja (shredded flank steak in a rich tomato-based sauce) and the Lechón Asado (pork marinated in citrus juices). Both dishes were absolutely delicious—full of flavor, perfectly seasoned, and not spicy. The portions were generous and very satisfying.
The margaritas were excellent, and they also offer a nice selection of beers on draft. Prices are very reasonable, the service is friendly and attentive, and you can tell the staff truly cares about providing a great experience.
Azucar has only been open for a couple of months, and it deserves strong community support. If you’re looking for something different, authentic, and delicious, this restaurant is well worth a visit. Please give them a try—you won’t be disappointed!
