Dining at Axum Ethiopian Restaurant was a truly memorable experience. The food is outstanding — rich in flavor, beautifully spiced, and deeply comforting. The injera was fresh and perfectly prepared, and each dish reflected the authenticity and depth of Ethiopian cuisine.

One small suggestion: because Ethiopian food is not as common for many diners, it would be wonderful if the service included a slightly more “educational” approach — perhaps guiding guests on how to best enjoy the dishes and the traditional dining style. For those unfamiliar with the culture, a bit more explanation could elevate the experience even further.

That said, with a little curiosity and personal research, everything comes together beautifully — and the meal was absolutely worth it. A five-star experience overall, and I would gladly return.

Located on a busy street.

Paid parking available in front of the restaurant. But with kids , be extra careful getting off the car

Food tasted good. Service was friendly. They brought more of the vegetables side items , when we finished them and asked for more.

Reasonably priced

Doro wat chicken dish is a must try.

Special coffee was good.

Restroom was clean

It’s located near downtown Indianapolis with easy access. I love how friendly and welcoming the people are, and the presentation is amazing. I always enjoy trying a combination of the meat and vegan options — they have a nice mix of flavors. You can also taste the local wine, which is a great touch. I was just a little disappointed that they don’t have traditional Ethiopian coffee, but overall, it was a great experience.

I was in town for an Mdou Moctar concert and wanted to pair the day with vegetarian African food. This place came up in a quick search so I just decided to go without reading reviews. The vegan sampler and a glass of homemade honey was perfect. The colors, textures and flavors were fantastic. I was solo this time and will not hesitate to suggest this to any of my friends. I wish I could eat this good weekly.

Friendly service, flavorful food — I seriously wish I could get my veggies to taste this good! The portions are a little small BUT they will refill your dish so you won’t leave hungry. I wish the decor / interior was a bit more authentic. They have been in business at this location for a long time. So you know they are doing something right!

I went to the Axum Ethiopian Restaurant in order to try new food .
The place was so clean and organized.
The service was excellent as well.
We ordered a Chef’s recommendation meat and vegan combos , 1 for 2 and 1 for an individual. Very tasty and colorful food, we really liked it! The bread was not my thing but overall I think is a nice place with a very good food.
If you are like me someone who loves to try new food please open your mind and respect other cultures

I came across this Ethiopian restaurant while walking downtown. I am so glad I decided to have lunch here. Service was friendly and accommodating. The decorations are authentic and artistic. Most importantly the food was very flavorful and delicious. I had the Lamb Awaze Tibs (Lightly sautéed, tender, cubed lamb mixed with home made awaze (spices) sauce and onion, garlic, rosemary and 3 side of lentils) and added a salad. I also had the spice tea. Highly recommend this place.

Top notch all around with the food and service. They have great options for whether you are a vegan or not which is a huge plus. I asked for the server’s recommendation (I’m an omnivore) and got the lamb which was magnificent. Perfectly tender and flavorful. The honey wine was so very good! I was nervous about ordering it because I don’t tend to go for sweet drinks but it was perfectly balanced and delicious! The hot tea was also so flavorful and comforting. A++ experience

Lunch meeting midday at Axum Ethiopian Restaurant was an excellent choice. We had the chicken and vegan special which served two with enough it could have served 3-4 people for a light lunch and great conversation. The ambiance was quiet, plenty of seating, and clean facility. The service was good, not exceptional, but good. The food was deliciously seasoned. I highly recommend you give the Axum Ethiopian Restaurant a visit to enjoy the cuisine.

Great food, the taste of the flatbread is a bit sour. Friendly service, bathroom and the restaurant was clean. Service was a bit slow, they were out of mango juice, coffee ceremony. They don’t have desert in their menu, only entrees and drinks. Ethiopian coffee was very strong which is expected. I wish the amount of the coffee was smaller or paired with a condensed milk. Overall great place for an ethnic food experience.
