The Dan Dan noodles had a great kick and they weren’t shy with the peanuts, which gave it a nice crunch. Also, the Mongolian beef came out on a sizzling platter and was actually tender, not chewy like some other places.
Everything came out fast and the portions were solid. Definitely adding this to the regular rotation for when I’m craving legit Chinese flavors.
The pan-fried buns (生煎包) have chewy wrappers with a crispy bottom, really good. (we were full and make it to go as the next day breakfast, which is still pretty good after microwave. )
The garlic spare ribs are my favorite — super crispy and tasty.
The dry pot cauliflower tastes traditional and comforting. (smell good)
I also like the Shanghai smoked fish (上海熏鱼) —this dish is more like sweet-and-sour flavor, which is very similar to what I tried in China Shanghai
First, they didn’t have the bubble scallion pancake, which is a favorite for my kids and one of the main reasons we came.
Second, the fried rice was… honestly not great.
Other dishes were okay—cabbage, fried green beans, and spicy boiled beef were all decent, but nothing really stood out.
It was acceptable overall, especially considering how authentic the original location is, but this one just didn’t quite live up to it.
On several other occasions, I’ve ordered the fried rice combo with chicken, beef & shrimp.
This restaurant is always consistent. I highly recommend lunch or dinner. Kid friendly.
The food was fantastic. Our favorites were the Roast Duck (crispy skin and juicy meat), the Numbing Pickled Cabbage Fish (tender fish with a really satisfying numbing/spicy kick), and the Pork Rib Broth with Mixed Mushrooms.
We also had Eight-Treasure Sticky Rice as a Chinese New Year special (not on the regular menu), and it was the perfect finish—fragrant, sticky, and not overly sweet.
Highly recommend for group gatherings—especially if you can book a private room. We’ll definitely come back!
Arrived w/o reservations as it was a spur of the moment decision to go out to eat (Bumpus Hounds XD) and was greeted warmly despite a rush of folks at the door. We waited about 20 minutes. Once inside it was a comfortable atmosphere despite the holiday rush — we felt very comfortable and not stressed out — unlike a previous experience at Honk Kong Star where the stress of the kitchen / restaurant negatively affected our moods & meal.
The food was fabulous! Garlic Green Beans were perfect, perhaps a bit expensive for what I’d consider an appetizer, but they hit the spot! We had Mongolian Chicken, Mixed Vegetables w/ Beef, sides of fried rice & Spring Rolls — all delicious and just right! Had a few bottles of Sapporo @ $6/per which was a fine price.
The owner’s husband came by a few times and made our night special by chatting with, taking care to answer any questions and bring the humor — just such a wonderful mood overall.
Parking was A+ — the restaurant is in a strip mall w/ other daytime shops, so by 6pm (also on Christmas) it was wide open.
My only gripe, ONLY gripe would be that I didn’t know to order the secret menu DUCK which wasn’t listed on the menu, but that just means we’ve gotta go back!
Thanks to everyone at Axia for such a special holiday treat!
