I’m genuinely happy to have a restaurant like Aves on the Upper West Side. It’s rare to find a place that delivers a true fine-dining feel with fine-dining-level food at normal, approachable restaurant prices. Bridging comfort food and refinement is hard, especially within Thai cuisine, and Aves pulls it off beautifully. ✨
We went on a Friday night around 8:15 pm and were surprised to find the restaurant mostly empty, which honestly felt more like a visibility issue than a quality one. There’s both an upstairs and downstairs dining room. A few tables were occupied upstairs, we were the only table downstairs, and there were a couple of people at the bar. The cocktails looked exceptional.
The menu offers great variety, including strong options for vegetarians and non-seafood eaters. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful, and the food seriously impressed us. We started with the coconut fried butterfly shrimp. My husband ordered the pineapple duck curry, and I had the drunken noodles with pad Thai noodles substituted for the usual wide noodles. The kitchen accommodated the request easily without compromising the dish, and it was excellent. We even ate the leftovers the next morning, which we rarely do.
Two minor notes: despite how quiet it was, my server forgot to bring a wine taste, and while the back table itself actually has one of the best views in the restaurant overlooking the entire space, the specific seat I was in faced directly into the kitchen, which slightly detracted from the ambiance. A simple curtain would fix that entirely.
Overall, outstanding food, thoughtful execution, and a place that deserves far more attention than it’s currently getting. ♀️

We started with their Mango Sticky Rice drink, and WOW… it was soooo good. Creamy, refreshing, and honestly one of the best drinks I’ve had in the city.
For appetizers, we tried the Mango Avocado Salad, Sweet Coconut Tiger Prawn, and the Tom Yum Crabmeat Croquettes, each one unique, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with fresh flavor.
Our entrees were next-level. The Persimmon BBQ Glazed Beef Short Rib was tender and rich, the Pineapple Lychee Curry Duck had the perfect balance of sweet heat, the Crying Tiger with Garlic Rice was insanely flavorful, and the showstopper, the Aves Signature Golden Cage Duck, was both stunning to look at and even better to eat. Every dish was cooked perfectly and surprisingly light and easy to digest.
We finished with the Banana & Nutella Spring Rolls, and it was the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable meal.
