Avenue BG brings a sleek, modern spin to Serbian and Balkan cuisine without losing the soul of the originals, and it largely succeeds. The space itself is stunning—high ceilings, warm wood accents, and an open grill that fills the room with the irresistible scent of ćevapi and pljeskavica. Standouts include the beautifully charred leskovačka pljeskavica stuffed with kajmak, the silky urnebes that demands extra lepinja, and a surprisingly refined shopska salad with excellent feta. Cocktails lean Balkan with rakija infusions that actually taste balanced rather than medicinal, and the wine list shows real care for regional producers. Service is polished and genuinely welcoming; they make you feel like a regular even on your first visit.
It’s not quite flawless, which keeps it at a very strong four stars. Portions trend toward “fashionable” rather than the gut-busting generosity you expect from traditional Balkan spots, and prices reflect the upscale postcode more than the comfort-food roots—forty-plus dollars for a main can sting when you’re still craving a second round of meat. On a packed weekend the kitchen can get backed up, turning a relaxed dinner into a two-and-a-half-hour affair. Still, Avenue BG is one of the best-looking, best-executed Balkan restaurants in the city, perfect when you want the flavors of Belgrade with a downtown glow. I’ll be back, especially for that pljeskavica and a seat at the bar.

I ordered a take out a week ago. I was so disappointed with what I received. I ordered chicken nuggets and it was not handmade, it is the same you can buy from Walmart, and they could not cook well even those, because it was burned. My child who loves chicken nuggets tried it and refused to eat even 1 piece. Also they reccomended me to order some meat. And it stinks so bad , I could not even stay by it. I had to close the box because odor was that bad. Seems like it was overfrosted meat , very old.
And what’s more, they put meat on top of French fries. And it is pick up. Buy the time I bring it home fries got wet and taste bad. Also lamb steak was without seasoning at all. We paid $70 and did not eat any if that food.

We arrived at 8 o’clock on a Sunday night. The place was almost empty, but soon after we arrived, a gentleman started playing a drum machine and singing along. He started with James Brown and other standards, and then he transitioned into Bulgarian music (I believe). It was fun, but we felt like he was performing for just us. The food was delicious and enormous. I used the toppings for the chicken in my omelets the rest of the week.

I’ve been a few times at this restaurant, but the experience I had was not great… it was awful. The management was rude, the customer service was 0, and the food was old and stale (disgusting).We had to return everything that we’ve ordered. The staff at the kitchen seems like they haven’t changed the oil for a long time. I found a hair in my salad…
There was really nothing I can point to and say “this was good”. It’s a shame it took such a downturn. Used to be a really good place for breakfast.
I never gonna visit this place ever again in my life…I can’t and I never gonna recommend it to anyone.

Staff is very friendly and attentive! I have only had positive experiences when I come here, and highly recommend this place to anyone who understands authentic Balkan food, and to anyone in general who wants to come and try it out! Broad range of choices on the menu, and the food tastes fantastic! Also they have a Dj every friday and saturday !

On Tuesday they have salsa dancing. For only $10 you get 1 hour of dance lessons. No need to bring a partner. Good way to make NEW friends!! Great crowd and awesome dancers.

Great food and good sized portions! We ordered quite a few items: appetizers, soups, meals and a grill combo and everything exceeded our expectations. You simply can’t go wrong with anything from the menu. The service was also excellent and the music was pretty cool. If you want some really good Bulgarian food, don’t miss out on this restaurant.

It’s been a while since I’ve been, but the experience I had recently was not great. Our server was slow and rude. She kept yelling at us when we couldn’t understand something. The place is dead, hardly anyone comes anymore so the food was old and stale. My husband ordered an omelette and was brought out almost raw eggs with some feta. There was really nothing I can point to and say “this was good”. It’s a shame it took such a downturn. Used to be a really good place for some breakfast.

I go there every Tuesday night for social dance events. It’s small cute place. I bought bottle water from bar and Bartender asked me for tip before giving water. Cannot blame but not a best experience
