Avaspi (“pure water” in Kurdish) is an Anatolian tapas restaurant named after a river in Mardin, a historic multicultural city in Southeastern Anatolia. The river, known for its pure waterfalls and greenery, gives life to agricultural lands in the Mesopotamian plains, something of a miracle in this arid region. The food and flavors of these lands have brought people of various ethnic groups around the same table for thousands of years.
Here at Avaspi, we are devoted to bringing Anatolia’s rich multi-ethnic cuisine and deep culture of hospitality to Chicago.
Thank you for letting us share this special cuisine with you. Enjoy!

Avaspi deserves the average 5 stars it has on reviews.. Everything!! including their plain white rice (I don’t think it’s plain) tastes so delicious and so flavorful. Their Kebobs are the most tender and juicy, the Soujouk Menemen breakfast for two, Olive Calamari (Not battered), Stuffed dates, Turkish Espresso Martini – I will be back again and again to try everything on the menu! This was my second time and I’m glad they’re maintaining the high standards they set the first time. So Impressive! They also gave our group lovely Baklava complimentary! Their staff is setting a very high standard in service and hospitality. They’re a class apart.

Went to Avaspi last Sunday for brunch and loved it! The place is beautiful inside, and the service was great. Our server, Ozgur, was super friendly and checked in on us a lot.
The Goat Cheese Tomato Dip and Coconut Cake were our favorites — both were so flavorful and perfectly balanced.

I recently had dinner at Avaspi with friends and was really impressed. The restaurant is fairly new and beautifully designed calm, elegant, not too loud, and with great music. The atmosphere feels inviting and relaxing. Every appetizer we tried was excellent, full of flavor, and the main dishes were equally delicious with generous portions. The servers were attentive, kind, and made the whole evening enjoyable. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for both food and ambiance. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back!

Unassuming location, but really great Mediterranean food at a very reasonable price. The sampler of mezzo was tasty, and the lamb chops were tender and delicious. Service was quick and pleasant. We sat outside in the evening and it wasn’t too loud from Belmont traffic and was a nice ambiance from the lights as it gets dark. We’d definitely go again.

We had an incredible evening at AVASPI! From the start, the reservation process was effortless—they even accommodated us when we needed to push our time back by 30 minutes. This romantic Turkish restaurant is designed for a special night out, and it truly delivered.
The standout dish for us was the calamari. It’s rare to find it prepared without breading and frying, and here it was executed perfectly—the garlic and olive base let the natural flavor of the calamari shine. Absolutely beautiful. We also shared the hummus sampler, which was layered with flavor. Each of us had a different favorite, but together the platter was outstanding.
The cocktails were equally impressive, especially the Turkish coffee martini, complete with a dramatic smoke bubble presentation. The staff went above and beyond, even offering us tastings of different wines when our group couldn’t decide—such thoughtful, accommodating service.
We dined outside, and the atmosphere made it the most enjoyable evening. If you’re looking for a romantic, memorable dining experience with authentic flavors and warm hospitality, VASPI is a must.

I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve come across this restaurant!! We spontaneously decided to come here (and happened to stop by during happy hour which is always a plus). The food is phenomenal! The interior is beautiful. Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious, fresh, and the presentation was fantastic. I also tried the Turkish coffee and the Kurdish coffee, both were delicious and served in cute little cups. Our waiter, Emin, was so nice and gave great recommendations. I will definitely be coming back here. 10/10, my absolute favorite tapas restaurant now. Beats many of the mainstream places. Also, this is a great spot if you’re vegetarian!

Shared a meal with family here recently, and the whole experience was wonderful!
We ordered Mardin Salad, Sarma, Calamari Meze, Shrimp Guvec, and the Branzino. Fantastic flavors. The Turkish and Kurdish coffee cocktails – outstanding. Very cozy atmosphere.
What made the meal really come together was the service – Maine was our server – very attentive, made great food and drink recommendations, and just made us feel so welcome.
We will definitely return to Avaspi when visiting Chicago.

We had a reservation here for my birthday and it was wonderful! Despite the winter weather, the restaurant was quite busy so definitely make a reservation. Our server was kind and attentive and even brought us a dessert and cocktails to celebrate my birthday. It was a nice touch and the food was phenomenal!

Was the best brunch I’ve had in a while!! The Anatolian Bfast for two was more than enough for three of us, and the stuffed dates were to DIE FOR!! The staff was so awesome and really cared about our experience and how we enjoyed the food. They even brought us a free slice of coconut cake at the end of the meal was delectable!! I will be going back for sure.
