The journey began vibrantly with Tomato Rice and Millet paired with rice crisp, evoking bhel puri with a popping tomato sphere that burst with tangy freshness. Butter Milk Curry Leaf Tempura followed, crispy and aromatic, alongside Cauliflower Crunch and Coriander Chutney for a crunchy, herbaceous contrast—perfectly bite-sized.
Lobster Dumpling in chili jam stole the show, its delicate filling mingling sweetness and subtle heat, while Fermented Chili Prawn added umami depth. Service was flawless, with staff explaining hyper-local inspirations like curry leaves from Kerala farms.
Spiced Aubergine bathed in Byadgi chili emulsion and sago pearls for earthy silkiness was their signature dish and our of this world. The Uthukuli Chicken shone with buttery richness, complemented by Malabar parotta. Lamb Rice which was steamed in banana leaf infused robust spices into fluffy grains.
Raw Mango Pudding with a ghee candle that melted into velvety indulgence.
The menu crescendoed with Fennel Candela, a fragrant panna cotta crowned in angel hair caramel, evoking South Indian nostalgia with contemporary flair. Paired with spice-infused mocktails, the ₹11,000 for two felt like pure value for this immersive experience.
Avartana’s Kimaya turned Valentine’s and our wedding anniversary into a flavor symphony—innovative, heartfelt, and unforgettably delicious. Highly recommend for special occasions; reserve early.
Most people would be concerned regarding the portion size, whether it would be fulfilling or sufficient and I can boldly claim by the end of each menu you’ll be stuffed to your brim. Chefs have carefully designed each course to deliver what your appetite desires the most.
I chose the Anika menu- 13 courses, approx 856g of food and 3659 Kcal. The moment we sat down Husandeep, prepped the table with a well marked menu and served us the starter with rasam prepared in a French press. He’d bring each course, explain what we are eating with recommendations from the chef on ways to best enjoy each dish.
Despite rating Avartana high in terms of atmosphere and hospitality, the food soon became its weakness and cause for loss of one star. The most shocking event was finding a strand of hair in the dimsum! They soon resolved the issue and replaced the meal, but the damage was done.
I further felt certain elements of certain dishes were too overpowering and not in harmony. For example, the butter candy in Uthukuli chicken was just plain salted butter- I had expectations of an infusion and a more flavourful wrapping. The sweet sauce on top of pork belly completely overpowered the taste and texture of the meat. Finally the coconut stew on asparagus yet again eliminated all natural flavours of the greens.
Apart from that the orange and ginger sorbet was the star performer with a balance of flavours and the citrus foam paired quite well with the cold sorbet. Cauliflower crunch was quite innovative and tasty. The stir fried chicken with smooth buttermilk mousse and crisp curry leaf fritters was excellent.
But the lobster disappointed with its tough, streaky texture and exact same preparation as the chicken wasn’t the best. In the end I was almost too full for the last two courses but the mango pudding with ghee candle was just too good to ignore.
The melting ghee with smooth, sticky mango and crisy tapioca was just magic- it had the feel of a halwa.
I got two different desserts with the citrus coconut- a unique looking disappointment with flavour on opposite spectrum and no harmony in terms of taste or texture!
The fennel panacotta however stood up to its reputation.
In the end it took me nearly 2 hours to go through each course, no regrets for the amount I spent. They did serve me an anniversary cake- delicious and cute! The experience was worthwhile and I’d certainly recommend giving them a visit.
The portion sizes were quite small, and for the price point, we expected something more satisfying in both quantity and flavor. Spending around ₹12,000 for two people felt a bit expensive for the overall experience we had.
That said, I appreciate their effort to try something different and create a unique dining experience. This place might appeal more to people who enjoy experimental or fusion cuisine. Personally, I would have preferred more familiar North or South Indian flavors that feel more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Overall, it was an average experience for us — not bad, but not something we would actively look forward to repeating.
Excellent
Delicious
This has been a unique and lifetime experience of fine dine.
I opted for vegetarian option, Jiaa
And it was very delicious, the rasam drink at the start was amazing, what a taste.
Yes it’s certainly costly, it would have been better if price is a bit in range, but the experience would probably justify or at least you won’t regret it.
We had the 7 & 11 course menus and the biggest disappointment was the food with most dishes being very unremarkable. The thinking that miniaturizing classic items (eg, appam, parottas) makes them interesting or innovative dominated the meal. As did the focus on presentation (test tubes?). Now both those boxes can certainly work in a meal, but a meal cannot stand on them alone. The chicken starter was very average — the curry leaf tempura was actually more novel. The lobster and the steamed sea bass were chewy and overcooked — not expected at this level. The shrimp dumpling came out of nowhere and did not fit with the menu. The char grilled pork belly had no char or smokiness. The lamb rice was nice, but with tiny morsels of lamb that had to be searched for. The uthukuli chicken was a regular chicken curry, with extremely heavy pairings in the butter toffee and parotta. The desserts and cocktails were the best part of the meal.
I really wanted to have a nice meal — having heard much about the Chennai branch — and am sad to be writing this, but there was not much redeemable here. (To top it off, I saw a server pick up a fallen garnish and place it back on the dish with his bare hands (not Dominic)).
I really hope this was a one off and they get better from here because the north of India really does need to experience the full glory of South Indian cuisine.
TL;DR: great idea, poor execution. Sorry guys.
The experience was wonderful as the hotel is nice, the ambience was amazing and the service was great too.
The server was polite and courteous. We were told that the dinner would last 90min but it took about 135min for the whole shebang. I think it was awfully long to sit at a dinner table for 2hours 15min but the company was pleasurable so not a big deal.
Apart from that, the vegan option does not get a printed menu. They claim it has been further curated. The dish was the coconut turmeric stew over vermicelli was my fav dish along with the dessert.
Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the rich and diverse flavors of southern India. The chefs skillfully combined traditional spices with modern techniques, creating a sensory journey that transported us to the heart of the region’s culinary heritage.
While the food was undeniably outstanding, what elevated the experience was the impeccable service. Keshav was attentive, knowledgeable, and warm. Before each dish was served, he provided a detailed explanation of its ingredients, origins, and the unique spices from different parts of southern India that brought it to life.
This is not just a meal; it’s an unforgettable culinary adventure that celebrates the essence of southern India. Highly recommended!
