Food: just average Cantonese cuisine, but there were some dishes that I quite enjoyed: clam with black bean sauce, salted egg yolk shrimp, fried intestines, and Mongolian beef.

The clams with black bean sauce were well flavored and umami. The salted egg yolk shrimp is not on the menu. I guess it was a secret menu item. I recommend it without the shell so you can enjoy it with salted egg yolk sauce that coats the shrimp. The sauce is slightly grainy and creamy in texture. Fried intestines might not be for everyone, but I personally love intestines for its fatty, soft, and chewy texture. Lastly, the Mongolian beef was very tender and well-seasoned

Service: our waitress was very friendly and would check up on us. 10/10!

Atmosphere: typical no frills Chinese restaurant interior. Very casual mom and pop shop kind of vibe.

The food and service is always great. The restaurant is very clean but it’s far from fine dining. So don’t expect much ambiance.

We had lunch here for the first time after finding our destination full. The food came quickly and was tasty. The lamb casserole didn’t have much color but had the requisite flavor. The string beans and pork was the best dish … dark green, crunchy, and packed with flavor. The crisp gau gee with crispy noodles was fine. We ran into the chef from one of our favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants… if he comes here, it must be alright.

Excellent food here! We had the scallop fried rice, garlic shrimp, peking duck and fresh fish. The fried rice was perfectly seasoned, not too oily and didn’t have much MSG flavour. We are from Vancouver (which has no shortage of good Chinese food) and this is one of the best Chinese restaurants we’ve been to!

Doesn’t look like much from the outside. Surprisingly roomy and comfortable on the inside. Decent parking lot. Friendly service, crazy number of choices. Solid Cantonese and local kine grindz, tasty, generous portions. Most of the local favorites. Some full-size tables for larger groups, and smaller tables for twos and fours. Great place if you’re working. We were a group of 13. Had the Chinese chicken salad which was very good, honey walnut shrimp, crispy gau chee, minute chicken on noodles, beef broccoli, ginger onion fish fillet, char siu egg fu yong. Really tasty.

I don’t know where all the good reviews are from? This place was barely OK. My dad found a hair in his broccoli and they offered to give another plate but I declined because the food was whatever. I was so hungry when I arrived I ate it anyway. Honestly Panda Express has better food. The Chow Mein was served boiled noodles then vegetables, meat and sauce on top. There is about 3 servings per plate which was ok. I would not recommend to anyone. Spent $54 for 3 plates.

One of my favorite places to eat Chinese food. Located in the Kalihi area. Its kinda tucked away but worth the visit.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They have a variety of different tables for couples and big families celebrating an occasion.

I believe it’s BYOB for alcoholic beverages. They do carry Pepsi products. They also serve hot tea.

Give them a try if you are around the area and enjoy! Aloha

If you asked me, what is special about Au’s Garden Chinese Restaurant, I would say the Cantonese styled homely cuisines they offer, which other Chinese restaurants don’t. Here you can have crispy deep-fried intestines, braised pork with preserved vegetable, . . . etc, all typical and flavourful Cantonese hometown dishes. Besides, they have unusual happy hour in lunchtime at $11.95 from 10am to 3pm. Worth trying.

I thought I was walking into some authentic Chinese restaurant until the food came. We ordered orange chicken, Mongolian beef and house chowmein. Orange chicken was too sweet, like lemon chicken, drenched in lemon sauce The outer part and the chicken was chewy, obviously not fresh. Mongolian beef did not have the flavor as it should and it was served with mostly onions and bell peppers, small amount of beef. If you’re expecting large portions, you’ll be disappointed because these family plates are only good for one. The chowmein noodles were overcooked and drenched with sauce. We ordered House Special Chowmein and only had 2 tiny shrimps, couple pieces of chicken, no beef and bunch of pork meat. There was nothing special about it. Lastly, in the chowmein, I found hair in one of the broccoli. We brought to the servers attention and they offered to make another. As bad as it was, we did not want it replaced but removed from the bill and when we paid the bill, it was still included. Anyway, this was our first time here and definitely will be our last. The restaurant seem to keep their deco from the 70’s or 80’s and their eating area is used as a storage room as well. That’s the reason for 2 star rating on atmosphere. The photo shows the hair I pulled from the broccoli as you can see the piece of broccoli still attached to it.
