We celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary here at the Aurora Inn Restaurant in Dawson City. It’s a small town with only so many nice-ish places to eat. We chose it because it seemed on the slightly more nice-ish side of things and they had the accurately named “Meatless Dinner” on their menu so I knew I’d have something to eat as a vegetarian.
The room is nice enough though not exactly a fine dining establishment. The service was great and our server was attentive and friendly. She even let me try a couple of the wines before picking the one I wanted to drink.
My wife thought the Arctic Char she got – serviced with root vegetables topped with broccoli, and potatoes was good enough and a generous portion.
The “meatless dinner” itself was a generous plate that included a house-made apple BBQ patty – cut up so it was more of a plate meal, whereas this patty is served as part of a BBQ sandwich as a vegetarian option.
It was all good enough.
No one panicked when the electricity went out for some reason.
Although it wasn’t, perse, the greatest meal we’ve had in our lives, it sustained us for the evening and was just about the only spot in town that had a dedicated vegetarian plate. (That was open on a Wednesday night.)

The food was very good and I enjoyed the creative drink menu. I had the ribs, my wife had the pulled pork, and my son had the steak, which he is still saying was the best steak he has ever had.

Had the Brisket plate 33 CAD. It was not worth that value… it was one strip of Brisket about 8inches in length with a half piece that was roughly around 3 1/2 inches. Average cut, but the meat had little BBQ flavoring and tasted as if it had been boiled. Meat was very soft but, way too soft fell off my fork constantly. The servers were way overworked and had to work super hard to keep up with all the demand and people. So they were polite but, frank and very busy. Overall it was ok, for 33 CAD though in a more classy restaurant I’d have hoped for better BBQ.

Our meals were average and not worth the price. The brisket and Elk/Bison pasta were disappointing and I would not recommend them. The burgers looked ok and maybe they were but our meals were not.

Delicious food, friendly staff. We had the pan seared char & the bison & elk sausage. The drunken cookie sundae was an excellent choice for dessert, too.

We were in town for a few days on an RV caravan tour, and this restaurant was recommended by an employee at the Downtown Hotel. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We highly recommend it if you’re ever in Dawson City.
